Our very own Nancy McGivern Buss, PT, MSPT, GCS^, CEEAA* made her television debut recently! She specializes in ^geriatric physical therapy (that means anybody over 65) and is a *certified expert in exercise for aging adults. She was one of the presenters at the recent senior resource expo here in Cedar Rapids.

You don’t need to be 65 to get checked out for your balance and strength. Maintaining both of those attributes are great anti-aging medicine!

The 2026 Senior Resource Expo is August 12 at the Kirkwood Linn County Regional Center. We got details on this free event for seniors and caretakers, plus a low-impact physical therapy demonstration.

ATS is 8!!! We took a moment to celebrate the clinic anniversary this week. It’s fun to get visit all together! Lunch Feedwell Kitchen & Bakery and then some candle-making fun!

In year 8, Advanced Therapy Specialists added another nationally board certified specialist to our list of specialists this year! Way to go, Jill Kilkenny, PT, MPT, OCS! Board Certified Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy!

October is breast cancer prevention awareness month! As survivorship has increased with early detection and intervention, there are more people that are now at risk of developing breast cancer related lymphedema. Bioimpedance Spectroscopy (BIS) allows for detection and intervention for lymphedema much earlier. Lymphedema surveillance programs with BIS do for lymphedema what mammograms have done for breast cancer!

The LE&RN/Lymph Notes U.S. Lymphedema Therapist Scholarship was established to meet the need for additional certified lymphedema therapists. Despite increasing awareness, there is only one therapist for every 1,000 people living with lymphedema in the U.S. Scholarships are awarded annually in memory of writer and lymphedema advocate Ann Ehrlich who initiated the awards in 2013.

Scholarship Details
Up to $1,000 towards a Full Lymphedema Certification Course offered by a certification program at a qualified training school pre-approved by LE&RN.
Funds will be applied directly to the course tuition.
The Lymphology Association of North America (LANA) will contribute a free LANA exam to scholarship winners who meet the LANA eligibility criteria. This is a $430 value.
Scholarships may NOT be applied to courses that have been completed or are in progress prior to notification.
Special consideration will be given to professionals working with underserved populations in the U.S.
We anticipate being able to award at least ten scholarships this year.
