Prairie Pines Lodge Retirement & Assisted Living Prairie Pines Lodge is an innovative and logical improvement to the alternatives of housing for retired adults.

Many times, the only choices available in the area are nursing homes, low-income housing, group living or conventional apartments. Yet many retired persons are ready to leave the work and responsibility of home ownership, however they are neither sick nor low-income, and the conventional apartments have no services as they cater to a different clientele. Consequently, many people are faced with having to move to Rapid City, Scottsbluff, or even further away, to find housing in some form of a retirement complex. Our mission is to provide housing in the Chadron area for retired citizens and to improve their choices. Prairie Pines is a complex that offers both housing and services tailored to each individual's needs. Forty seven one and two bedroom independent living apartments are offered, along with twenty assisted living apartments. Prairie Pines is a single story, residential style community located on the western edge of Chadron between 6th and 8th streets. The site has easy access to medical facilities, shopping, banking, churches, cultural and civic activities. Prairie Pines is a great option because of its size and location, but what really sets us apart from the rest are the services we offer and the care we give to each one of our residents. A variety of services give the residents the best of retirement living: security, peace of mind, and the absence of worry and responsibility in a beautiful and comfortable setting. Prairie Pines is distinguished from conventional apartments or condominiums... you are beginning a new way of life...a secure and active, independent lifestyle with friendship and sociability. With your private or assisted living apartment you have a wide range of services designed to enhance your independence. No more house and yard maintenance. This leaves you free to enjoy your favorite activities. Your transportation needs can be met with our scheduled transportation services. Nutritious meals are prepared fresh everyday in our own kitchen making dining in the company of your friends at treat. Your only job is to live, laugh and enjoy each moment of your retirement.

🚐💙 Celebrating Medical Transporter Day | August 20

At Prairie Pines Lodge, transportation is about so much more than getting from one place to another.

For Medical Transporter Kimberly, every day looks a little different—and that's exactly what makes her role so special.

Kimberly helps Prairie Pines residents get where they need and want to go, whether that's a medical appointment, a hair appointment, a weekly shopping trip, or another outing in the community. Every Wednesday is shopping day, when some residents enjoy doing their own shopping while others trust Kimberly to pick up what they need.

And when the transportation schedule slows down, you'll often find Kimberly helping with activities and spending time with residents.

One of her favorite recent experiences was accompanying a group from Prairie Pines to the Post Playhouse to see the Always... Patsy Cline show.

But ask Kimberly what she enjoys most about her job, and her answer isn't about the miles traveled.

💬 “My favorite part of this job is getting to spend time with the residents and hearing about their lives!”

That connection is what makes Kimberly's work so meaningful. Every appointment, shopping trip and outing is another opportunity to help our residents maintain their independence, stay connected to their community and continue enjoying the experiences that matter to them.

Congratulations to Prairie Pines Lodge Facility Administrator Tim Frye on receiving the Good Neighbor Award!

Tim’s commitment to our community often happens quietly and behind the scenes, but the impact of his generosity can be seen throughout Chadron.

For years, Tim has supported local events, organizations and partnerships that bring people together. Through the continued generosity of Tim, Prairie Pines Lodge and Chadron Hospital, the Chamber Ambassadors have been able to host their annual Fur Trade Days BBQ and Ambassador Fundraiser—including the donation of the event’s popular hot dogs year after year.

Tim rarely seeks recognition for the ways he gives back. Instead, he simply continues to show up, lend a hand and support the people and traditions that make our community special.

That dedication to serving others and strengthening community connections truly represents what it means to be a Good Neighbor.

🎉🎂 Celebrating July Birthdays at Prairie Pines Lodge! 🇺🇸🎶

There was no shortage of smiles, music, and birthday cheer as our Prairie Pines Lodge residents gathered on July 21 to celebrate our July birthdays!

Residents enjoyed delicious cake, festive decorations, wonderful company, and an afternoon of live entertainment by Pete Butler, whose music had everyone tapping their toes and singing along. Celebrations like these are about so much more than birthdays—they’re an opportunity to create meaningful moments, strengthen friendships, and enjoy life together as a community.

There’s something special about flowers and the joy they bring. This week, Prairie Pines Lodge residents enjoyed a hands-on floral arranging activity led by local florist Wendy from Bloom. Residents selected blooms, arranged their own bouquets, and spent time visiting, creating, and sharing stories together.

Activities like these are more than just fun—they encourage creativity, social connection, and meaningful engagement while brightening the day with a little extra color and beauty.
