Join us in congratulating Chef Tristan Parks on accomplishing a major milestone! 🎉

After a year and a half of dedication, training, and hard work, Tristan recently passed the cooking practical portion of his journey toward becoming a Certified Executive Chef (CEC). During a rigorous three-hour examination at Wake Technical Community College, he prepared multiple courses in front of a panel of judges and earned outstanding reviews—including recognition that two of his dishes were among the best presented by candidates seeking the same certification.

Tristan has one final step to complete: the written examination. Once passed, he will officially earn his Certified Executive Chef designation.

We're incredibly proud of Tristan's commitment to excellence and grateful for the talent and passion he brings to Carolina Meadows every day. Congratulations, Tristan!

With the construction fence now coming down at The Groves, a long-awaited vision is finally coming into view. Like the first light of a new day, excitement is building as we prepare to open our doors in early fall.

What began as an idea has grown through dedication, hard work, and care into something truly special. We look forward to welcoming residents, families, and team members to a new chapter in care and community.

National Donut Day is celebrated each year on the first Friday in June and began as a way to honor the Salvation Army volunteers who served donuts to soldiers during World War I.

🐦👂 Experience the joy of birding in a whole new way!

Carolina Meadows residents recently participated in the Blind Birder Bird-a-thon, a global birding event that celebrates the power of listening to connect with nature. Designed for people who are blind or have low vision, the event encourages participants to identify and record bird species by sound during a peak migration period. Guided by a birding expert from Chapel Hill's Wild Birds Unlimited, participants learned to recognize birds by their songs and calls, discovering that birding by ear is not only possible—it’s a meaningful and enriching way to experience the natural world.

Carolina Meadows Recognized

The Excellence in Innovation Award:
Carolina Meadows was honored at the LeadingAge North Carolina Annual Conference in Asheville with an Innovation Award recognizing the organization’s work related to fall prevention and resident safety in assisted living. The award highlighted the interdisciplinary initiative led by Jessica Drecktrah, Director of Nursing Services, as part of her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program through Duke University, and Michelle Marino, Wellness Manager.

The project focused on a nurse led, AI informed approach to fall risk assessment and prevention within The Fairways assisted living environment. The initiative demonstrated meaningful improvements in resident engagement and reductions in falls while also helping advance data informed care practices within the community.

This recognition reflects both Jessica and Michelle’s leadership and Carolina Meadows’ broader commitment to innovation, evidence-based practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, and continuous improvement in resident care and quality outcomes.

(Whew, posted in the nick of time: there is just too much fun stuff to report) Dog Park Cinco de Mayo-themed Paw-ty!

The Federation of Furry Friends and Community Life sponsored an afternoon of fun, flavor, and furry friends at the CM Dog Park on Wednesday, May 6…..yes, the day after the real Cinco de Mayo! A rare (for this spring) rain shower dampened the first 15 minutes, but a hardy crew of celebrants and pups turned out to sample Melissa’s delicious Mexican treats and Sarah’s wonderful homemade dog cookies, each to his own! As the sun dried up the dampness, more and more people and dogs arrived, and the Paw-ty became fully underway. Dogs and owners sported little sombreros, and all visitors enjoyed the fun. Huge thanks to Sonia, Sarah, and Melissa for the planning, decorating, food, and enthusiasm! (Written Post Credit: Elsa Desrochers)

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. At Carolina Meadows, we are especially grateful for the veterans, families, and loved ones in our community whose lives have been touched by that service. Today, we reflect with gratitude, remembrance, and respect. ❤️🤍💙
