Abilities Without Boundaries

Abilities Without Boundaries Nonprofit Organization. Abilities Without Boundaries helps people achieve independence, self-sufficiency, community participation and personal satisfaction

AWB offers diverse and highly enriched programming for individuals with developmental disabilities throughout Connecticut. AWB currently provides services to 68 clients focusing on integrated employment and day services with a strict focus on the individual needs of each client. Our clients are employed in a wide scope of jobs in the communities we serve. And we continue to look for new and innova

tive ideas that will allow our clients to share their talents with the greater community. In collaboration with employment services, AWB offers day programs focusing on enhancing daily living activities, gross and fine motor skills, and social and emotional interactions. Our committed staff work to arrange a variety of activities to address each of these areas. In addition to our programming, AWB is a strong advocate for the rights of people with developmental disabilities and continues to spread awareness about the abilities of people with developmental disabilities throughout Connecticut's communities. Since 1978, AWB has helped countless individuals with developmental disabilities lead a more productive and fulfilling life. In 2011, AWB changed our name from Cheshire Occupational & Career Opportunities (COCO) to Abilities Without Boundaries and continued expanding our impact throughout the state. In addition to this change, Abilities Without Boundaries successfully launched a rebranding effort placing advocacy, inclusion and respect at the forefront of all initiatives. What began with a few concerned parents has blossomed into an organization with almost 50 employees who all share a deep and profound respect for the individuals we serve. For more than 30 years, we have been helping to make a difference throughout Connecticut.

Our Art of Engagement program recently brought creativity to life with a fun 3D hand art project using paper, pencils, and markers. Participants enjoyed exploring perspective, color, and self-expression while creating their unique masterpieces.

We are incredibly grateful to the Neag Foundation for their generous grant, which helps make enriching programs like this possible. Your support allows us to continue providing meaningful creative experiences for our participants. Thank you for investing in the arts and our community!

Town Hall lobby, 84 South Main Street, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Here are some tips from the Red Cross to stay safe in the heatwave:

Listen to a NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Weather Radio for critical updates from the National Weather Service (NWS).

Never leave children or pets alone in enclosed vehicles.

Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids even if you do not feel thirsty. Avoid drinks with caffeine or alcohol.

Eat small meals and eat more often.

Avoid extreme temperature changes.

Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothing. Avoid dark colors because they absorb the sun’s rays.

Slow down, stay indoors and avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest part of the day.

Postpone outdoor games and activities.

Use a buddy system when working in excessive heat.

Take frequent breaks if you must work outdoors.

Check on family, friends and neighbors who do not have air conditioning, who spend much of their time alone or who are more likely to be affected by the heat.

Check on your animals frequently to ensure that they are not suffering from the heat

Residents with questions should visit the following websites for more information: http://www.ready.gov/heat.

Residents with further questions should call the Town Managers Office at 203-271-6660 or the Fire Department at 203-272-1828.

When the heat is just too much to handle, we make our own kind of fun! πŸ’¦β˜€οΈ Whether it's hanging around, finding some shade, or just enjoying the little moments together, the best memories are made no matter the temperature. Stay cool, stay safe, and make the most of the day! 😎❀️
