A lifelong Chicagoan and Little Village native, Luis Gutiérrez founded Latinos Progresando in 1998 with a commitment to strengthening the communities that shaped him. What began as a grassroots effort has grown into a trusted community institution serving immigrant and Latino families through immigration legal services, education, cultural programming, advocacy and community development. Gutiérrez’s leadership is deeply rooted in collaboration and community-driven solutions. He also founded the Marshall Square Resource Network, which has grown to more than 45 organizational partners working together to address critical issues affecting Chicago’s Southwest Side. His work reflects a simple but powerful approach to service: build from within the community, connect people to the resources they need and create opportunities for families and neighborhoods to thrive.

ADHD is so much more than being “hyper” or getting distracted easily.

It can look like forgetting something you were just told.
Walking into a room and forgetting why.
Struggling to start a task even when you desperately want to.
Losing track of time.
Feeling everything deeply.
Having a million thoughts at once.
Hyperfocusing for hours, then struggling with the simplest task.
Constantly misplacing things.
Getting overwhelmed by things that seem easy for everyone else.

And sometimes, the hardest parts are the ones nobody can see.

ADHD isn’t laziness.
It isn’t a lack of intelligence.
And it isn’t someone simply “not trying hard enough.”

Different brains work differently.

This month is about understanding ADHD beyond the stereotypes and giving a little more grace to the minds that experience the world differently.
