⥠Burning, tingling, numbness, weakness or âpins & needlesâ in your feet or legs?
What about:
⢠Sharp, shooting or electric-like pain
⢠Increased sensitivity to touch
⢠Weakness or difficulty lifting your foot
⢠Changes in balance or coordination
⢠Unexplained foot or ankle pain
These symptoms can sometimes point to peripheral nerve pathology â and figuring out where the symptoms are coming from is an important part of determining the right treatment.
This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Stephanie Oexeman, DPM, FACFAS, DABPM of Oexeman Foot & Ankle to MJPT to educate our team on peripheral nerve pathology, clinical presentation, diagnosis and treatment.
So, who should you see? đ
𦶠Podiatry: When symptoms involve the foot or ankle and may require specialized evaluation or treatment for conditions such as nerve entrapment/injury, structural foot and ankle issues, drop foot or other pathology.
⥠EMG/NCV testing: When we need more information about how the nerves and muscles are functioning and where a nerve problem may be occurring. Electrodiagnostic testing can help identify and characterize conditions involving peripheral nerves, nerve roots and muscles.
đ Physical Therapy: When pain, weakness, mobility limitations, balance deficits or movement dysfunction can benefit from conservative rehabilitation â including restoring strength, mobility and function.
And sometimes, the best answer is all of the above working together.
At MJPT, we believe great patient care extends beyond the walls of our clinics. Building relationships with specialists like Dr. Oexeman allows us to collaborate, refer when appropriate, and better understand the full picture when a patientâs symptoms require multiple areas of expertise.
A huge thank you to Dr. Oexeman for taking the time to share her expertise with our team! đ¤
Better collaboration â better clinical decision-making â better patient care.
