The Training in Policy Studies (TIPS) Program 2027 application deadline has been extended to July 10, 2026. The American Osteopathic Association's TIPS Program is a policy-based program, generously funded by the American Osteopathic Foundation, that provides an understanding of current health care policy issues while also facilitating leadership opportunities. Participants will gain experience in writing policy briefs and white papers, oral testimony, and more.

This program serves as an initial leadership and policy program for residents wishing to become more active within the Osteopathic profession. TIPS fellows have gone on to serve in leadership and policy development roles both within and outside of the Osteopathic community. Some have also continued their policy training by participating in the Health Policy Fellowship program, which has produced over 20 deans and college of Osteopathic medicine presidents.

Congratulations to Grace Escueta, spouse of Francis Ricardo Kayanan Escueta, one of the first recipients of the 2026 AOF/AAOA Donna Jones Moritsugu Memorial Award! And congratulations to Francis, who graduated from Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine in May.

Since 1993, the American Osteopathic Foundation and the Advocates for the American Osteopathic Association have partnered to extend the Moritsugu award to spouses of graduating Osteopathic medical students from across the country in honor of the beloved late wife of Kenneth P. Moritsugu, MD, a former Deputy Surgeon General of the United States, retired military physician, nationally recognized public health expert, and former AOF Board member. This award honors spouses who exemplify immeasurable support and have made significant personal and professional sacrifices that have contributed to their partner’s success.

The American Osteopathic Foundation’s Rossnick International Humanitarian Medical Outreach Grants support Osteopathic medical outreach efforts across the globe. A limited number of grants up to $10,000 will be distributed to DO-led and organized, patient centered, educational and/or direct-care focused research related initiatives with an international medical outreach component. A limited number of grants up to $25,000 will be distributed to Osteopathically centric qualified 501(c)3 health centers. Earlier this month, OCOM hosted the AOF Board of Directors and staff for their April Board meeting. We'd like to thank Dean Robert T. Hasty, DO, for his generosity and hospitality — and Associate Dean for Student Services, Mattie Bendall for the tour of their beautiful school! We also want to thank OCOM for nominating two incredible student doctors, Aishwarya Kalluri and Mariana Valdez for the 2024 and 2025 AOF Welch Scholarships, respectively. The Board was moved to tears as Student Doctors Kalluri and Valdez described their career journeys and what it meant for them to receive this scholarship. It was a truly memorable trip.

The Foundation is looking forward to hearing more student stories as we welcome all Osteopathic Colleges and Schools to nominate students for a variety of prestigious AOF awards.
