Who is behind the glass?

Every session at the Ludden Clinic is supervised by ASHA-certified faculty.
For adults rebuilding language after a stroke, that supervision matters.
Finding the right starting point, choosing which words and skills to target first, coaching a spouse or caregiver, and adjusting all of it as recovery unfolds over months is not a checklist.

Every toy on our shelves has a job...
Puzzles build sequencing and following directions.
Bubbles and pop-up toys get kids requesting "more" and "again."
Pretend play sets spark new words and back-and-forth conversation.
Picture books and communication boards help every child find a way to share what they mean.

To a child, it looks like playtime. To our student clinicians, it is carefully planned therapy, with every session guided by licensed faculty.

When words are hard to find, music can help. 🎶

Our Aphasia Choir has been hard at work practicing!
At Saint Xavier University's Ludden Speech and Language Clinic, people living with aphasia, often after a stroke or brain injury, sing alongside our graduate student clinicians. Because singing uses different parts of the brain than speech, it gives members a joyful, low-pressure way to use their voices and build community. 💛❤️

After a stroke, many people know exactly what they want to say, but the words won't come out the way they used to. That's what aphasia can feel like.

At the Ludden Clinic, our graduate student clinicians work with adults recovering from stroke to learn AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) devices. With a few taps, a client can order coffee, share a joke with family, or tell their own story again.

AAC doesn't replace speech therapy. It works alongside it, giving people a bridge to communicate while recovery continues.

We're proud to help our clients reconnect with the people and conversations that matter most. 💛❤️

Our first free adult hearing screening of the school year was a success. Thank you to everyone who came out to get tested, and to everyone who shared the word with a friend, neighbor, or family member. You helped more people in our community get answers about their hearing.

Our graduate student clinicians ran every screening under the supervision of licensed audiologists and speech-language pathologists. It was hands-on training for them and a real service for you.

Serving the community is at the heart of what we do, and we're grateful we get to do it.

Each week, our graduate student clinicians visit the program to provide language and literacy enrichment, helping children strengthen their communication, reading, and language skills in a supportive and engaging environment.

This partnership creates meaningful learning opportunities for local children while giving our future speech-language pathologists valuable hands-on experience working in the community.
