Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

Prostate cancer is one of the most diagnosed cancers among men, and early detection can make a significant difference. Screening often begins with a simple prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test. Conversations about screening should be individualized based on age, family history and other risk factors. Taking time to learn your risk and talking with your health care provider is an important step toward protecting your health.

At Enloe Health Regional Cancer Center, patients with prostate cancer have access to a multidisciplinary team providing personalized treatment and supportive care close to home.

As we are preparing for our move to the new Enloe Health Gonzales Comprehensive Cancer Center, our Infusion Therapy team and Enloe Health Education Center have been working behind the scenes at full speed to ensure our nurses are ready for day one.

Over the past several weeks, these dedicated teams have invested countless hours planning, training and fine tuning workflows to ensure a smooth transition into our new space. Through a recent skills fair and hands-on education sessions, they have demonstrated what it means to be driven by precision and powered by teamwork.

A special thank you to everyone who stepped up as trainers, organizers and support staff. Your expertise, enthusiasm, and commitment have helped keep this project on track and our nurses prepared.

As we approach opening day, we're grateful for the incredible collaboration that helps us deliver the exceptional cancer care our community depends on.

Celebrating More Than 20 Years of Healing Through Art

What began as a community-driven effort to honor the experiences of breast cancer survivors through creative expression has grown into a lasting tradition of hope and healing. Rooted in the dedication of survivors, artists, and volunteers, our commitment to healing art reflects the belief that art can bring comfort and strength during the cancer journey.

Since the first Healing Art Gallery exhibit at the Enloe Regional Cancer Center in 2002, nearly 100 North State artists touched by cancer have shared their work through rotating exhibits featuring painting, photography, quilting, sculpture, poetry and mixed media. Today, that commitment continues throughout the Enloe Health Gonzales Comprehensive Cancer Center, where original artwork by North State artists helps create a welcoming and healing environment for patients, families, caregivers and staff.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Healing Art Committee — past and present — whose vision and dedication have sustained this remarkable program for more than two decades. Their work has ensured that healing extends beyond medicine, offering moments of peace, reflection, encouragement and joy to all who experience the art on display.

Honoring the artists, volunteers, and visionaries who created this legacy, we look forward to the next chapter of healing through art — bringing hope, comfort and connection to all who walk through our doors.

At a special session of Shifting My Perception, we experienced Rhythms of Health — an interactive workshop for individuals living with a serious illness and their caregivers that explores the healing power of rhythm and music.

Research has shown that traditional drumming practices may help improve cognition, support physical healing, strengthen the immune system and promote overall well-being. This dynamic experience invites participants to connect with the rhythms within and around us through a variety of percussion instruments from around the world, including drums, shakers, bells, rain sticks, claves, and even hand clapping and foot stomping.

Thank you, Nic Ruff and Mike Wolfchuck, for bringing your experience and joy to the group!
