Hiroko Judy (Ohta) Ferguson, age 93 of Farwell, MI, passed away peacefully in her home on August 10, 2026 at 7:45 A.M. Judy was born the daughter of Mituo and Miiko (Hashimoto) Ohta on October 2, 1932 in Keijo, Korea.
She is survived by her sister Sachie (Yousuke) Yamazaki and her brother Katsumi (Kumiko) Ohta. She was proceeded in death by her brother Aseo Ohta who passed at age 5 and her parents and a granddaughter Erica (Harvey) Taylor. She is survived by her children Donald Edward (Sylvia) Ferguson of Texas, Kay (David) Harvey of Clare, Bill (Tammy) Ferguson of Stanton, Robert (Brenda) Ferguson of Holland, Dawn Delaney of Farwell and Glen Ferguson of Farwell; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Hiroko was a kind woman who worked hard caring for her children. She was loved by many and will be missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 11 A.M. at the Brown Corners United Brethren Church with Pastor Steve Evans officiating. A luncheon will follow in the Fellowship Hall.

James (Jim) Anderson Allen passed on Sunday, August 16, 2026. Jim was 81 years old.

Born August 4, 1945, to H. Redford Allen and Jean (Anderson) Allen in Midland, Michigan. He graduated from Clare High School in 1963 and from Western Michigan University in 1967 and received his Masters Degree also from Western Michigan University in 1971. He served in the US Army from 1968 through 1969 serving in Vietnam. He was married to Judy Funke in 1967 and recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on August 5. They enjoyed their three sons, Joseph, Midland; Jeffrey (Becky), Minneapolis; and Jason (Erin), Minneapolis, and three grandchildren, Maia and Fiona, Minneapolis; and River, Minneapolis.

Jim worked for Chemical Bank from 1971 through 2009. He also gave back to his community by serving on several boards and commissions including as a City of Clare commissioner, Downtown Development Authority (DDA), and Industrial Development Corporation (IDC). After his retirement he worked for the Clare Community Foundation as his "retirement job" until 2023, when Jim and Judy moved to Minneapolis to be closer to family. He was a member of St. Alphonsos Catholic Church in Brooklyn Center, MN and former member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Clare, MI.

He is survived by his wife, sons and grandchildren, and was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Robert Allen, and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Elwood “Woody” M. Lapham Jr., 80, passed away peacefully at home on August 19, 2026.
Woody’s life began on December 28, 1945 when Geraldine (Winchenbaugh) Lapham and Elwood M. Lapham Sr. welcomed him into the world. Raised in Maine, he graduated from Hall-Dale High School in 1963 and later built a successful career in finance and IT for
the high-tech and computer industries. A man of many stories and adventures, Woody lived a life anchored in love, hard work, and respect. Woody’s famous adventures include the time he rescued people from a car floating in the freezing Charles River one Boston winter. Equally famous was the time he saved his Pontiac GTO from theft using only
a carton of ice cream. One of his favorite stories was when he and his son received a rare autograph from Paul Newman. In other adventures, he survived a motorcycle crash, raced his sports cars at tracks in the Northeast, and traveled the world from Switzerland to
South Africa and Singapore for work and pleasure. Alongside these big adventures and stories were smaller, day-to-day, and year-to-year loving moments that made his life so special to so many.
Woody is survived by his wife of 45 years, Bianca (Horton) Lapham, his two children, Jennifer (Lapham) Heneberry and Jeffrey A. Lapham; four grandsons, Noah, Mark, Paul and Jenson; cousins Paula and Anne; parents-in-law Craig and Isabel; sisters-in-law Kathy,

Louis A. Bryans, age 91, of Clare, passed away peacefully under Hospice care at Northwoods Nursing Center of Farwell, on Thursday, August 13, 2026. Lou was born the son of Clarence and Sylvia (Shank) Bryans on January 30, 1935, in Detroit. Lou enlisted in the Army in 1957; he was stationed in Germany with the 2nd Armored Calvary. On November 30,1963 he married the love of his life, Rita Strotmann, in Dearborn, MI. They went on to have 2 children, Carl & Annette.
In 1972, Lou and his family moved to Clare after purchasing the Crossroads Motel, which they owned and operated until 1978. Lou also worked for the Clare school system as a bus driver and custodian, was a volunteer firefighter for the Clare fire department and retired from Delfield Corporation in 1996.
After retirement, he worked part-time for the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home. Most of his free time was spent hunting and fishing. After Rita started out-fishing Lou, he teamed up with his best friend, Larry Lockwood to participate in Monday night fishing tournaments. He and Larry spend many hours on the lake solving the world’s problems and occasionally catching fish.

John E. Lear, age 74 of Lake, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, with his beloved wife by his side. On October 5, 1951, John was born one of five children to Robert and Virginia (Dean) Lear in Garden City, MI. John’s childhood and early adult years were spent in Garden City until age seventeen when he began service as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. During his overseas service time, John met the love of his life Hannelore “Hanny” Teppich, while he was stationed in Germany. On October 18, 1973, the pair was united in marriage in Mainz and have spent every bit of the last fifty-two years together. At the conclusion of John’s service time, he and Hanny moved to Westland, MI., where John began his faithful thirty-three-plus year career as a delivery and salesman for the Taystee Bread Company.

In 2012, John officially retired, and he and Hanny moved to their hunting property in Lake, where John could enjoy the outdoors—especially his passions for deer and turkey hunting with his brothers Gary and Mark, as well as his grandkids and their spouses. His brother Gary was an integral part of all of the projects on the property, where Gary was the Master and John was proudly his "Ass"istant. Gary helped make the property their home. John also enjoyed raising his vegetable garden, and he couldn’t resist a good reality TV show. However, those that knew John best knew that he was the biggest jokester. He...

Frank F. Keesecker, 79, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026, in Saginaw, Michigan.
Born on December 4, 1946, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, he was the son of Frances Voorhees and Roscoe Keesecker, and stepmother Mary Keesecker. Frank worked as a social worker in community mental health for 40 years. He loved history and philosophy, travel and nature, philanthropy and his family.

He is survived by his spouse of 54 years, Karen; children, Matthew, Noah, and Jonathan; grandchildren, Hannah, Iris, and Alma; and extended family. He was preceded in death by infant daughter Kathryn.

In accordance with Frank's wishes, cremation has taken place and his family will honor his memory privately rather than with a formal service. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made in his name to the Southern Poverty Law Center at splcenter.org.

Steve Eugene Sines, age 66 of Clare, passed away at home after fighting a long illness. Steven was a graduate of Westminster High School in Westminster, MD. He had served in the U.S. Air Force and attended Keiser College in Melbourne, Fl, graduating with honors with an associate’s degree in computer science. Steven was a loving son, brother, husband, father and uncle.
He is survived by his loving mother and stepfather Norma (Burns) LaGuardia and Joe LaGuardia; his little brother Ted (Marsha) Sines; his niece Ashley Sines, and great niece Harper; wife Leslieann Sines (Meehle) and daughter Alexis Sines. Also surviving are his brother-in-laws Tim (Suzie) Meehle and Vern Meehle and nephews and nieces Ethan, David, Parker, Peyton and Owen.
Steven recently joined the American Legion in Farwell. He loved everything computer and science related. Steven loved decorating his home for Halloween and Christmas. Together he and Leslieann traveled all over from the East Coast, West Coast and Canada. You will be missed my love, may you be pain free and flying with the angels.

Edward Henry Morris, Jr. passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026 after a brief illness.
He was born in Franklin, Pennsylvania to Edward Henry Morris and Esther Dorothy Reitz on June 2, 1938. He attended Franklin High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1955, rising to the rank of Sergeant. He met the love of his life, Dolores Mae Glover, and they married in the base chapel at Parris Island where she also served. They returned to Franklin in 1958, and after their children were born, moved to Dolores’ home city of Saginaw, Michigan.
Ed worked at Wickes Boiler in Saginaw, American Salt in Midland, and at General Motors Saginaw Steering Gear as an Industrial Electrician. He also farmed in Midland County, and moved to Clare where he and his son built a hog farming operation. He held a Master Electrician’s license and founded Keystone Electric Service, working in central Michigan as a contractor. After retiring from GM, Ed and Dolores enjoyed vacationing across the United States in their travel trailer for several years.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Jackson (husband Howard) of Selma, Indiana; and his son Michael Morris of Harrison. Ed leaves behind three granddaughters, Heather Jackson (Micah Brown), of Indianapolis, Indiana; Alyssa Jackson of Selma, Indiana; and Hailey Morris (Brian Ronk), of Portland, Michigan; and three great-grandchildren, Cayson, Delaware, and Oliver. Idella M. Mogg, age 79 of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2026 at Covenant Healthcare in Saginaw. Idella was born the daughter of the late Clifford L. and Ella Mae Neely on September 18, 1946 in Gladwin.
Survivors include her daughters Debbie Ashley and Susan Finney; stepsons Melvin Lane and Warren Lane; her siblings Kenneth Ashley and Shirley Dillon; 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son Jimmy Lane; grandsons Keegan Beerens and Jeffrey Washburn and brothers Harod and Richard Ashley.
Burial will take place on Friday, August 7, 2026 at 11 A.M. in the Wise Twp. Cemetery in Loomis.

Larry D. McQuiston, age 81 of Farwell, passed away Monday, July 27, 2026 with his loving wife by his side. Larry was born the son of the late Merrill and Margaret (Dunkle) McQuiston on January 28, 1945 in Harrison. He was united in marriage to Linda L. Rodenish on November 4, 1992. Larry had worked as a Steamfitter through UA Local 85. He loved to fish, travel and camp with his wife.
Larry is survived by his wife Linda; sons Jeff (Nina) McQuiston of Harrison, and Shannon (Alissa) McQuiston of Harrison; stepsons Joe (Michelle) Pritchard of West Virginia, Kevin (Cindy) Pritchard and Shawn Pritchard both of Farwell; his sister Marilyn (Dick) Graham of Washington; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Larry was predeceased by his sisters Janet Murdoch, Sally McQuiston and Linda Dole.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at the Clare Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be from 11 A.M. until the time of Services at Noon with a luncheon to follow.
