Charles Webster, Sr.

On Saturday, August 29, 2026 our beloved Charles Webster, Sr., was called from labor to reward.
Charles was born on August 8, 1947 to the late Clinton and Helen Webster. One grandson,
Dwight Eric Tucker preceded him in death.
In his earlier years, Charles joined the United States Army. After completing the Army, he
returned home and became self-employed. Charles held down several jobs, licensed contractor, master electrician, plumber and lock smith. He owned and operated his own truck business. Charles even was a bus driver. He was a jack of all trades; he would help anyone that he could.
Even when Charles was busy, he never let it interfere with his walk with the Lord. Charles was a faithful and dedicated member of the Rocky Mount Baptist Church, Skipwith, Virginia. He served as the chairman of the Trustee Board and was also on the Cemetery Committee.
In 1973, Charles married his true love, Derperdine. They shared a love that was unbreakable, a love like none other. They were never too busy to have family time with their children, for this was important.
Charles leaves to cherish his memories; his wife, Derperdine of 53 years; three children,
Anthony Hayes of Chase City, Virginia, Dwight E. Tucker (Dorothy) of Red Oak, Virginia,
Charles, Jr. (Almanique) of Keysville, Virginia; twelve grandchildren, nine great grandchildren;
three sisters, Marilyn Johnson of Chase City, Virginia, Martha Webster of Miami, Florida, Caryl Harris of LaCrosse, Vrginia; two sisters-in-law, Marie Jenkins, Robbie O. Tucker both of
Skipwith, Virginia; two brothers-in-law, Irven Lee Tucker, Harvey Jenkins both of Skipwith,
Virginia; two aunts, Marjorie Meigs of Chase City, Virginia, Maggie Peaks (Ralph) of Irvington, New Jersey; one uncle, Mervin Gooch of Baltimore, Maryland; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
We will always remember Charles as a remarkable and caring man. One that was blessed with many talents.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Rocky Mount Baptist Church, Skipwith, VA with the Reverend Dennis King, Pastor will deliver the eulogy.

Charles Garrett Atkins

Charles Garrett Atkins affectionately known as "Gary Moe" was born on January 31, 1963 in South Boston, Virginia, to the late Lewis H. and Martha Royster Atkins. He was the second of two children to this union.

At a very early age, Garrett joined the St. Luke Baptist Church in Skipwith, Virginia and became an active participant in Sunday School and church.

Garrett received his formal education at Mecklenburg County Public Schools. He graduated from Bluestone Senior High School in 1981 and continued his educational path at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia.

With an esteem of love for the Tidewater region, he found employment in Williamsburg, Virginia which included Governor's Arms, Cascade Restaurant,Eastern State Hospital and Whiting’s Funeral Home and CremationServices. He retired from Eastern State Hospital in December 2023 after 36 years of service. Garrett was always cooperative and willing to support and assist those who needed his help. Thus, his life was enriched through his work experiences and opportunities which afforded him a positive attitude and earned him the respect of his colleagues on and off the job. Nevertheless, we cannot forget his willingness to speak his mind.

Garrett has departed this earthly life, but he leaves a legacy of love, kindness and compassion. He leaves to cherish a lifetime of beautiful memories, his brother, Calvin D. Atkins; his sister-in-law, Coretta Hayes Atkins both of Norfolk, Virginia; one nephew, Rodney Atkins; one niece, Shaunda Atkins; one great niece, Zuri Alexander all of Norfolk, Virginia; two uncles, Linwood Atkins (Dale), John C. Royster (Wanda) all of Chase City, Virginia; six aunts, Dr. Laura R. Royster of Detroit, MI, Hazel R. Robertson of Skipwith, Virginia, Cecelia R. Irby, Joann Rosyter (Linwood) all of Chase City, Virginia; Deborah R. Howard (Marcus) of Williamsburg, Virginia; Theresa R. Stephens of Fredericksburg, Virginia; two devoted friends, Michael Robinson, Gerald Rogers both of Williamsburg, Virginia; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service for Mr. Charles Garrett Atkins will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 12:00 Noon at the St. Luke Baptist Church. The Elder Charles D. Allen will deliver the eulogy.

Perry “Short Dog” Matthew Sydnor was born on December 19, 1959, in South
Boston, Virginia at the Halifax Regional Hospital.
He attended Halifax County Public Schools and attended White Oak Baptist Church.
After his schooling was completed, he was employed at Rochester Button Factory,
Burlington Industries. He coached and refereed basketball games for the Recreation
Department in South Boston, Virginia.
He loved to hunt, fish, cook on the grill, go to car shows and spend time with family.
In addition to his parents, George G. Syndor and Mattie Irene Syndor who proceeded
him in death, he also had four brothers, George Syndor, Jerry Syndor, Larry Faulkner
and George Faulkner.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Thorpe; three children, Tarsha, J. R., Candis Clifton;
four grandchildren, Kumasi, Devon, Cameron, Kelcee; one great grandchild, Tatum;
three brothers, Ricky (Diana), Melvin, Kevin; two sisters, Virginia (William), Christine Faulkner; 3 brothers-in-law, Donald, Kirk, Sharon; 2 sisters-in-law, Kim Tranham, Juanita Syndor; 4 aunts, Marie King, Dorothy Fountain (June), Christine Syndor; Truett Richerson, Nanny (Harry) Price; one uncle, John Suitt (Sandra); one best friend, Matthew McCargo; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026 two hours prior to service. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026 at 1:00PM at the White Oak Fork Baptist Church, Virgilina, Virginia.

Ms. Daile Brown Osborne Mosley departed this life on July 22, 2026 in Garner, North Carolina. Daile was born on June 10, 1950 to the late Charlie Osborne and Ruth Elizabeth Barnes Osborne.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Flossie Barnes, Elizabeth Lester, Esther Walker, Josephine Coleman, Charlene Osborne, Margarettus Walker and her brother, Wallace Osborne.

She was educated in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. She had been employed at Jonbil, Mfg., Russel Stover’s, Sherwood Foods and a Personal Care Attendant. Daile was a faithful member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church #1, serving as Sunday School Secretary, member of the Missionary Circle, Usher Board and Choir.

Among those left to cherish her loving memories are; her son, Chester L. Osborne of Garner, NC; two daughters, Michele O. Brown (Lennis) of Capital Heights, MD, Donna J. Mosley of Chase City; grandchildren, Donovan Mosley, DayVon Mosley, Markell Johnson, Derek Osborne, Yolanda Brown, LeNeice Brown, Christina Brown, Rodney Jones, Demetrius Osborne; sister, Annie R. Osborne of Washington, DC; honorary grandchildren, Cindy Bouldin, Kavontae Elam, Deandre Fields, Treyvon Foster, LaDarius Hargrove, Charnette Herndon, Jala Brown, Lennis J. Brown; twenty-six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Doralene Ratliff Boswell “Dora” went home to be with the Lord on July 27, 2026 at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News, Virginia.

Doralene was born in Boydton, Virginia on April 23, 1959 to the late Deacon Cleveland Ratliff, Sr and Rebecca Duncan Ratliff.

She attended and graduated from Bluestone High School in Skipwith, Virginia.

She was a member and choir member of Saint Paul Baptist Church at an early age in Boydton, Virginia.

God gave Doralene a gift to sing starting at the age of 11 years old. She enjoyed singing and leading songs in the choir. One of her favorite songs that she loved to sing and so did everyone else was, “You Don’t Know How I Feel.” She had a beautiful soprano voice and people loved to hear her sing.

Doralene also enjoyed dancing and being with her family and friends.

Doralene was preceded in death by her oldest sister, Laura Bell; brothers, Brandy and Cleveland, Jr.

She leaves not to mourn but to cherish her memories to her children; son, Barry K. Johnson, Jr.; daughter, Cherylene Johnson; her precious five grandchildren, Layla,Kahlil, Deion, Kalani, Legend; her mother, Rebecca Duncan Ratliff of Boydton, Virginia; one sister, Roxanne Booker (Reverend Charles); one brother, Emmette Ratliff; a host of nieces, nephews, loving cousins and friends.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2026 from 10:30 until time of service at 1:00PM. Service will be held at St. Paul Baptist Church, Boydton, Virginia. Reverend Brenda Hutcheson will deliver the eulogy.
Interment will be held at the St. Paul Baptist Church Cemetery located on Highway 58 West.

There will be a Respass held in the St. Paul Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

Reverend Sampson Lovely Townes, Sr.





Reverend Sampson Lovely Townes, Sr., completed his earthly assignment and was awarded his wings on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, with his family by his side. He was born on March 19, 1930 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia to the late Doctor Townes and Mider Townes.

Sampson attended Finchley Elementary School. He accepted Jesus Christ into his life at an early age and joined St. John African American Episcopal Church in 1949.

Sampson was married to the former Mary Mason on May 9, 1951. This union was blessed with 7 children.

In 1955 he was ordained into the ministry and was appointed pastor of Mount Zion in Boydton, Virginia. In 1960 he was bonded to perform marriages. He pastored several churches including Marshall Chapel in Lynchburg, Virginia, Harmony Circuit, Mount Pisgah, Traynham Grove in South Boston, Virginia, Saint Michaels in Riverdale and St. John in Finchley, Virginia. He served 26 years as pastor to Mount Pisgah, St. John, and St. Michael A.M.E. Sampson served 36 years as pastor from the Virginia A.M.E. Conference until retirement due to conference due to age limitation law.

Sampson worked on Buggs Island Dam until completion, 18 years at Tunstall Mine in North Carolina until closure, 50 plus years at owning his own business in farming.

Reverend Townes, Sr., was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Bell Mason Townes; brothers, Fulton Townes, Myelon Townes, Abraham Townes, Vincent Townes; sisters, Trentace Jones, Alice Burwell, Matilda T. Anderson and Martha T. Martin.

Reverend Townes, Sr., is survived by his 7 children; Doctor Junior Townes, Sampson L. Townes, Jr. (Audrey), Stanley L. Townes, Mary Lee Townes, Martha Ann Townes, Charlene T. Harper (Calvin), Barbara T. Jefferson (Wayne); brother, Moses Townes; sister-in-law, Alice Bibbs; 4 granddaughters; 3 grandsons; 2 unborn great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, friends and family.

Funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at the Carter’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend L. Daniel King delivering the eulogy with burial in the St. John African American Episcopal Church.

Obituary

On Saturday, May 23, 2026, God called his faithful servant, Harry William Marrow, Jr home. Harry was born October 9, 1948, to the late Harry William Marrow, Sr and Ellen Pettus Marrow.

He received his formal education in Mecklenburg County Public Schools and was a graduate of West End High School in 1967. During his youth, he accepted Christ and became a member of New Liberty Baptist Church in Finchley, Virginia where he was a dedicated member where he served on the Trustee Board and worked diligently in any capacity needed.

On October 22, 1966, he married Lillie Mae Thomas and to this union two children were born, Yulando S. Marrow and MiChelle D. Marrow.

In his youth, he worked in the local grocery store, drove school bus for Mecklenburg County School, and later was employed by Burlington Industries in Clarksville, VA for a number of years and Central Fidelity Bank prior to starting his own construction business, Marrow Construction, Landscaping and Excavating, in 1974 of which he loved and dedicated himself. In addition, he was a member of the Clarksville Jaycees, West End Alumni Association, a Trustee at Bluestone Harmony Headquarters serving the Boys and Men Ministry for many years and was elected Chairman of Board for Mecklenburg County Zoning Board, member of the Homeowner's Association, member of the Oasis Club and worked with Southside Planning. He was a devoted father and friend to all who knew him. He loved working, being outside at his shop and Man Cave (Harry's Man Cave), watching westerns, cooking and barbecuing, spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents, Ellen Pettus Marrow and Harry William Marrow, Sr, sisters, Anita Allen and Rozena Taylor, and brother, Charles Marrow.

His memories will be cherished forever by his loving and devoted children, son, Yulando "Landy" Marrow (Tracy) of Boydton, VA, daughter, MiChelle "Niecy" Marrow of Richmond, VA, two honorary daughters, Janita Tuck of Buffalo Junction, VA and Velma "Kitty" Smith of Wake Forest, NC, four grandchildren, Damione R Marrow and Franki D Marrow of Richmond, VA, Ashley Tingen and Patrick Tingen, of Boydton, VA, four great-grandchildren, KhaMaria Lee, Dameari Marrow, Lyric Marrow and Dameiyon Marrow. One aunt, Dorothy Winbush of Oxford, NC, four sisters, Alice Marrow and Juanita Richardson both of Henderson, NC, Gertrude Newton and Alfreda Newton (William) both of Buffalo Junction, VA, one brother, Samuel Marrow of Henderson, NC, one sister-in-law, Delilah Marrow of Henderson, NC and one brother-in-law, James "Jimmy" Taylor of Oxen Hill, MD, a dear devoted cousin, Mary Alice Goode of Clarksville, VA, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and many, many devoted friends.

There will be a walk through held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 from 12 Noon-6:00PM at Carter’s Funeral Home; 206 Virginia Avenue; Clarksville, Virginia 23927.

Funeral service for Mr. Harrow William Marrow, Jr., will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2026 at 2:00PM. Service will be held at The House of Prayer; 6793 US-58; Buffalo Junction, Virginia 24529. The Reverend Mack Talley will deliver the eulogy.
