Hi everyone! Shauna here with a heads up for existing patients who are booking appointments with Dr. Vaughan or Dr. Perry at HowardKimAcupuncture.com…you will be asked to complete intake forms to get established as a patient at their office. The same would be true if any of your other medical providers moved to a different office…you would have to complete intake at that office to get established as a patient. I know intake paperwork is not fun, but it is a necessary part of the medical intake process everywhere.

I am aware that some folks have shared their frustrations with this. Paula, the practice manager there, is an amazing human. Please show her the same love you showed me as practice manager at Precision. ❤️

After a season that tested us in ways we never expected, Dr. Dustin Vaughan is returning from medical leave and joining Howard Kim Acupuncture.

On April 15, 2026, we received the news we had been praying for: remission. And now, he’s ready to get back to the work he loves.

💜375 days since diagnosis of metastatic testicular cancer

Today his chemo chest port was removed, signaling the official end of treatment.

The past year has been challenging to say the least. The conversations we had to have and the realities that we had to face, I would not wish on anyone. One takeaway for me is that metastatic cancer is a much different beast than an initial diagnosis.

The reality of cancer is it numbs you, even making milestones like today difficult to comprehend. It is also somewhat bittersweet, as I pray everyone fighting this battle has the same outcome. We have so many friends and family in various stages of diagnosis and recovery.

This journey is not over for us, we are simply closing one book (it’s bigger than a chapter 😉) and opening the next one as we enter remission making our way toward the five year survivorship…for a second time.

We are entering this next phase with optimism and with keen awareness that every day is significant on this journey.

Thank you for the prayers, well wishes, and support.

Words cannot express what we have been through and how it feels to know that so many people were cheering for him and for us.

The news we’ve been praying for: remission. A major milestone to being cancer free, which will require five years of surveillance.

Grateful doesn’t begin to cover it. Thank you to everyone who has walked this road with us through prayers, messages, and support.

And during Testicular Cancer Awareness Month, this news means even more. Early detection matters.

April is Testicular Cancer Awareness month. Firemen, like Dr. Vaughan are twice as likely to get it and this recent diagnosis was a recurrence of it for him. Gentlemen, please be diligent if you notice any lumps, swelling, pain, or other changes in your testicles and get to a urologist ASAP.

Cancer is the most dangerous threat to firefighter health and safety today, and the risk for testicular cancer is 2.02% higher than the rest of the population (100% or twice the risk). Dustin (retired fireman) was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2018 and then in 2025 he was diagnosed with a recurrence which had a 0.25% chance of happening. It's easy to think it won't happen to you or your loved ones, but the reality is a stark one for firefighters.
