Dear Mumu,
I’m not even sure where to begin. You’ve had quite an extraordinary PhD journey. And being the introvert that you are, I know you would probably never express or talk about your experience anytime soon.

So, here I am, penning it down for you.✍🏼❤️

I’ve seen you grow, stumble, fall, get back up, stand up for yourself, fight for what you deserve, and repeat the same experiment for the 100th time simply because the reaults didn’t meet your expectations. I’ve seen you vent out your emotions, feel happy and light up like a little child when you finally achieved your target, your quite battles with anxiety, and yet somehow find the strength to overcome every significant hurdle standing between you and your destination.

Your Bapi, Dada, Binny di, and Bubu are so incredibly proud of you. They have lived through your emotions through all the stories and narratives you’ve shared with them. And I know Maanon must be beaming with pride right now ❤️❤️!

Bapi, especially, has always encouraged, motivated, and inspired you whenever you felt low, right from the very beginning. And from what I’ve witnessed, you might be the only kid I know who would share every tiny detail of your research—ocular electrophysiology, experimental protocols, complicated findings, and all—with your father, and he would actually read it, understand it, and come back to you for further discussions! I know how proud he is of you.❤️

As for me, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing your journey throughout these four years, and my admiration & respect for you has only grown with each passing day. I have seen the countless sacrifices behind those three little words—PhD. I know you don’t like to brag about yourself or your accomplishments, but trust me, I’m not bragging when I say this—your PhD journey is worth celebrating, especially considering the infinite challenges you’ve faced along the way. 🙏🏼

Kudos to you, Dr. Banerjee!❤️

Every single day, I learn something new from you. Your curiosity, dedication, kindness, and ability to keep going even when things seem impossible, continue to inspire me. And I couldn’t be prouder of the person you’ve become. Maa & Babuji are the proudest ❤️

Congratulations, my dearest Dr. Banerjee! 🎓❤️ This is only the beginning. Here’s to everything that lies ahead. Aniruddha Banerjee ✨

Each milestone takes me one step closer to my DREAM. Every paper, every experiment, every late night… it all counts — and I’m celebrating every single one along the way! 💃🤍

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗔 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞 🤩! Last week was one heck of a week — 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰, and 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 all at once!

𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, because I got the opportunity to share my work and engage in immensely meaningful discussions with so many wonderful people. Between talks and posters, I honestly feel posters are more satisfying — they allow time for deeper conversations with the right audience, and there’s less chance for the work to be missed because of the extended interaction time 📑!😊

𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰, because I had the opportunity to moderate a session, and that was truly one of the best experiences of the meeting. Interacting with each presenter and seeing the passion with which they explained their hard work was incredibly inspiring 🤍!

And finally, 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 — because last week was also my job-hunting week. With the time crunch I’m currently in, I’m actively looking for opportunities where I can continue learning while contributing meaningfully to visual science research. I met several P*s who were potentially looking for candidates, and I’m deeply grateful to everyone for the kind, encouraging, and reassuring words 🙏🏼💐.

I also had the opportunity to meet my PhD PI, .Katrina Schmid , and I truly appreciate the valuable time she spent with me. Thank you, Dr. Daniel P. Spiegel and Dr. Arijit Chakraborty, for vouching for me and supporting me throughout!
Above all, one of the most memorable moments of ARVO 2026 was meeting 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗛𝗲𝘀𝘀. I’ve been reading his papers since the very beginning of my research career, but had never met him in person before. By pure luck, after 11 years, he attended this ARVO and his board happened to be right beside mine! He was kind enough to listen to my work patiently, and that interaction made ARVO 2026 truly unforgettable for me.
𝗔𝗥𝗩𝗢 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 — 𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱!

As I move forward, I’m open to potential job opportunities in vision science research and would sincerely appreciate it if you could spread the word 🙏🏼.

REPOST- Ready to work on your critical thinking skills? 🧠🔍 (Topic 7) - PhD Edition 🫶🏼

Developing your critical thinking skills is essential for several reasons:
It serves as the foundation of advanced human intelligence.

It’s a uniquely human ability that remains irreplaceable and consistently in high demand.
While AI can accomplish many tasks, it lacks the capacity for genuine critical thought. Nurturing our critical thinking skills is key to distinguishing ourselves from non-human intelligence.
