We’re honored to share that the McClure Miller Respite House received a $100,000 gift from Lois McClure through the Vermont Community Foundation. At her family’s request, this gift was directed toward the 2026 Jiggety Jog, helping bring this year’s event to a record-breaking total.

Lois was a steadfast champion of the Respite House from its inception and remained deeply engaged throughout her life. She was a frequent participant in the Jiggety Jog, proudly walking in support of compassionate end-of-life care for our neighbors. Lois, who died in 2025, would have celebrated her 100th birthday this year.

We celebrate and honor her many acts of generosity — and the generosity she inspired in so many.

When someone you know is struggling, it’s easy to worry about saying the wrong thing. But the most important step isn’t having answers — it’s being present.

“Show up. In person. That’s 90% of it right there,” says Chris Lazar, a community health resource coordinator with UVM Health.

In a garage filled with memories, longtime Jiggety Jog participant Pat Myette points to posters from more than 20 years of the event.

“I’ve participated in the Jiggety Jog since at least 1994. I love how it brings together people who care about the Respite House."

GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and Wegovy are no longer new—and the conversation around them has changed.

There are new options, including a pill. At the same time, insurance coverage has changed, making it harder for some patients to access these medications.

While they can be effective, they’re not a quick fix.

“This is a magic pill, and you also have to do the work.”

🦵 My Knee Hurts… Is it Arthritis?

A lot of people assume knee pain automatically means arthritis – but that’s not true.

💬 “Not all knee pain is arthritis,” says Sarah Gardner, PT, DPT, a physical therapist at UVM Health – Elizabethtown Community Hospital. “Knee pain can come from overuse, muscle weakness, old injuries or doing too much too fast.”

So how do you tell the difference between everyday knee pain and arthritis?
And when should knee pain be checked out instead of “waited out”?

In our latest Q&A, Gardner breaks down:
✅ Early warning signs of knee arthritis
✅ Why stairs and chairs suddenly feel harder
✅ What really helps — and what doesn’t
✅ How physical therapy can ease pain and keep you moving

✨ Your knees can still have a lot of life left in them – learn how to protect them by clicking on the link in the comments.

🎶 Singing for Peace 🎶

Every Friday, participants and staff at our Adult Day Program sing familiar songs like “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” “Imagine” and “What a Wonderful World.”

When asked why they sing, the answer is simple: “We sing for peace.”

As one participant put it, “We have our own little corner of the world right here. We have peace and love in here.”
