Today we celebrate the city we call home and, more importantly, the people who make the 901 so special.

From our neighborhoods and local businesses to our music, food, creativity, history, and unmistakable Memphis spirit, there is truly no place like the 901.

At Mid-South Transplant Foundation, we’re especially grateful for the donor heroes, donor families, transplant recipients, volunteers, healthcare partners, DMV and County Clerk partners, Ambassadors, and community members throughout the Mid-South who continue to give hope and help save and heal lives.

A key goal of National Multiethnic Donor Awareness Month is to inspire more people from diverse backgrounds to join state and national donor registries.

For DonMichael, Mid-South Transplant Foundation’s Manager of Family Care, becoming an organ donor reflected the values he strives to live by every day.

"One of the greatest things we can do is give something of ourselves that allows someone else to live."

For him, joining MSTF became much more than a career opportunity. It became a calling to serve families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

"Behind every donor is a person whose life had meaning, behind every decision is a family navigating an incredibly difficult moment, and behind every transplant is another family hoping for more time with someone they love."

His words are a powerful reminder that this work is ultimately about people, generosity, hope, and the impact one decision can have on countless lives.

What an incredible back-to-school season for Mid-South Transplant Foundation!

This year, our team participated in 12 back-to-school events across three states, joining schools, churches, community organizations, and local partners who were all working toward one goal: helping students and families begin the 2026-27 school year with a little more support.

Through the generosity of our staff and the dedication of our team and Ambassadors, we were able to distribute 1,601 school supply items to families throughout the Mid-South.

Every item represented one less thing a family had to worry about purchasing before the first day of school. To our staff who donated school supplies and helped us prepare for these events: thank you for giving so generously

And none of this happens without people willing to show up.

Our incredible Ambassadors dedicated a combined 67.75 volunteer hours to help make these events possible, and we thank them for continuing to show up for our communities.

Community outreach is about more than being present. It is about meeting people where they are, supporting the needs of the communities we serve, and building meaningful relationships beyond our everyday work.

To all of the students, teachers, and school administrators we wish you a safe, successful, and AMAZING school year!

August is National Multiethnic Donor Awareness Month.

Every person deserves the opportunity to receive the lifesaving transplant they need. Finding a matching donor can be very challenging for patients from multiethnic communities because genetic markers used in matching are often shared among people of similar ethnic backgrounds.

That's why National Multiethnic Donor Awareness Month is so important. It's a time to celebrate the diverse communities that make donation possible while encouraging conversations about organ, eye, and tissue donation that can save and heal lives.

Behind every "YES" is someone who asked the question.

This past Friday, members of the Mid-South Transplant Foundation team traveled throughout our service area to celebrate Customer Appreciation Day at several DMV and County Clerk locations. Along the way, we delivered a few small tokens of appreciation, including candy, balloons, air fresheners, and other treats, to thank the dedicated employees who help make organ and tissue donation registration possible every single day.

When someone visits a DMV or County Clerk office to obtain or renew their driver's license, these employees play an essential role in one of the most important conversations they'll have by simply asking, "Would you like to register as an organ and tissue donor?"

Did you know that nearly 90% of donor registrations happen through DMV and County Clerk offices?

That means these frontline employees are helping create opportunities to save and heal lives every day.

To all of our DMV and County Clerk partners across Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas, thank you for your dedication, your compassion, and your commitment to serving your communities. We are incredibly grateful for your partnership and for the difference you make with every "YES."

For someone living with kidney disease, hope can sometimes begin with a simple conversation.

That's what makes our Lobby Days so meaningful.

Throughout the year, our Mid-South Transplant Foundation Ambassadors visit dialysis centers across our service area to connect with patients where they are. These visits create opportunities for honest conversations, shared experiences, and encouragement from people who truly understand the transplant journey.

Recently, Ambassadors Tremetrius Barnes and Claudia Griffin spent time at the Fresenius Kidney Care Renal Center in Memphis, meeting with patients and staff, answering questions, sharing their personal stories, and reminding others that transplantation may still be possible while on dialysis.

For many patients, hearing from someone who has walked a similar path can provide the confidence to ask questions, explore their options, and take the next step toward a healthier future.

Thank you to Tremetrius, Claudia, and all of our incredible Ambassadors who continue to give their time, share their stories, and inspire hope throughout our community.
