Je'Sani Smith Foundation This is the official page for The Je'Sani Smith Foundation. Our purpose is to save lives. Je'Sani was a 6'4", 215 lbs, an athlete, and a strong swimmer.

Founded in March 2020, The Foundation is named after Je'Sani Smith. Je'Sani had just turned 18 years old and was two months shy of graduating high school when he was swept away by a rip current at one of his hometown beaches. This tragic event is proof that anyone can be caught in a rip current no matter how strong they are. Within weeks of Je'Sani drowning, seven (7) more individual lives were tr

agically claimed by a rip current on the same stretch of beach on Padre Island, Nueces County. His parents have made it their personal mission to advocate for enhanced safety measures to prevent a similar loss and work tirelessly to do this through beach safety and rip current education. Additionally, in 2021, they helped to get passed two pieces of beach safety legislation, authored by Representative Hunter, in the State of Texas aimed to keep beach goers safe: House Bill 3807, The Je'Sani Smith Act and HCR 46. Each are valid for the next ten years. The Je’Sani Smith Foundation's purpose is to save lives by providing education, awareness and water skills training on beach safety, seaward-flowing water currents and other coastal hazards. 💙 World Drowning Prevention Day | July 25

At the Je'Sani Smith Foundation, our mission is rooted in turning tragedy into action through education, awareness, and water safety advocacy.

This World Drowning Prevention Day, we join the global call to Unite to Turn the Tide.

🌊 More than 300,000 lives are lost to drowning each year, yet many of these tragedies are preventable. Together, we can make a difference by learning water safety skills, recognizing rip current dangers, supervising children around water, and sharing life-saving knowledge within our communities.

When we work together, we save lives. 💙
