🔊 Wake up to a diffusion sequence and you’ll never be late again.

Every MRI sequence sounds different. The gradient coils inside the scanner sit in a powerful magnetic field, and each time current pulses through them, they vibrate. Every sequence pulses them in its own pattern, and faster, stronger switching makes louder, sharper noise. That’s why some sequences hum along politely and others sound like a jackhammer that’s mad at you. It’s loud enough that every patient gets hearing protection, often with music to help pass the time.

MRI Technologists know each of these sequences inside and out: what it’s for, how long it runs, and what it sounds like from the other side of the scan room door. Our MRI Technologists bring that know-how to hospitals across the country on our mobile MRI units.

Any MRI Technologists out there actually want these on their phones? We’re happy to make the sequences available, or even remix them into something you’d want to wake up to. If people want them, we’ll make them.

What if you could actually see an MRI's magnetic field? 🧲👀

A 1.5T MRI generates a static magnetic field of approximately 15,000 gauss at its center. But that field doesn't stop at the scanner's opening. It extends into the surrounding space, creating what's known as the magnetic fringe field.

To bring this invisible science to life, we created an artistic 3D visualization of the MRI's magnetic fringe field, inspired by isogauss contours that represent equal magnetic field strengths. While the exact boundaries are illustrative, the visualization helps demonstrate how the magnetic field extends beyond the scanner and into the surrounding space.

Now, imagine bringing all of that technology into a mobile MRI environment!

🧲 Magnetic shielding: Modern MRI systems often use active shielding to help limit the extent of the fringe field beyond the scanner.

📡 RF shielding: Our mobile MRI scan rooms feature radiofrequency shielding, creating a Faraday-cage-like enclosure that helps protect image quality from external RF interference.

🛡️ MRI safety: At SMS, we prioritize safety in every mobile MRI deployment, following applicable safety standards and site-specific protocols.

And here's something that surprises people: The main magnetic field remains active even when the MRI isn't scanning.

P.S. Yes, the plastic is still on the chairs and patient table. This MRI is in its "fresh out of the wrapper" era. 😎

Note: This is an artistic visualization inspired by manufacturer MRI fringe-field diagrams. Colors, contours, and distances are illustrative and do not represent measured field strengths or verified safety boundaries for this specific system.

Most imaging backlogs don’t start with a bad decision. They start with demand outgrowing the scanner you have.

The fix seems simple: add capacity. Plan a second room. But between that decision and the first scan sit permits, construction, installation, and months of the backlog growing. And if your one scanner goes down in the middle of it, the line doesn’t pause.

That’s the gap a mobile unit is built for. It parks outside, connects, and our Technologists start scanning while the build happens. When downtime hits, the schedule keeps moving. And if demand keeps growing after the new room opens, the unit can stay parked right where it is.

Interim when you need it. Long-term when demand calls for it. Either way, patients get scanned sooner.

Our team is at Health Connect Partners in Las Vegas this week. If backlog is a conversation at your facility, we’d love to talk shop.

It started with a Technologist. It still takes one.

In 1984, a Nuclear Medicine Technologist named Maria Nagle, CNMT, proposed a week to put nuclear medicine in the spotlight. Fellow Technologists carried that idea all the way to Washington, and in 1986 the first National Nuclear Medicine Week became official.

Forty years later, the technology looks very different. CT shows the structure. PET shows the activity. PET/CT brings both together in a single scan. What hasn't changed is who makes it happen: a skilled PET/CT Technologist behind every image.

This Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging Week, we're celebrating 40 years of the people who started it and the Technologists who carry it forward, including our own PET/CT Technologists at Shared Medical Services. Thank you for radiating hope, one scan at a time. 💛

"We have mobile MRI at home." 😂

Okay, ours looks a little different.

A backup plan should never feel like a downgrade. MRI, CT or PET/CT, our standard stays the same: industry-leading uptime and a killer team that knows the equipment inside and out.

October is here, and so is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 🎀

We loved seeing these photos from Park Nicollet's recent screening event for the Cambodian community. Their Mammo A-Go-Go truck pulled up, and what started as a screening day turned into a celebration of women showing up for each other. Our Mammography Technologists were honored to be there. 💗

Thank you, Park Nicollet, for sharing these and for showing up for the women in your community.

To everyone who stopped by our booth at ASNC, thank you.

For the good questions, the long conversations, the extra poker chip you thought we didn’t notice, and the handful of stickers you absolutely needed.

We had a great time talking hearts with you in Vegas. No grand conference wrap-up. We just really enjoyed meeting you.

09/16/2026

We’re ready for ASNC 2026! 👋 It all kicks off this evening. We’ll see you on the show floor!

Every scan starts with a driver.

Our drivers are not hauling freight. They are hauling the reason a hospital can offer imaging it could not otherwise support. They know the sites, the routes, and the staff waiting on the other end, and the staff know them by name. Long before the first appointment, they have the coach in place, level, and ready, usually in weather nobody would choose.

To every professional driver on the road this National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, and to ours especially: thank you. You are why we deliver. 🚛
