The Alleghany Highlands Community Services Board is committed to improving the quality of life for individuals in our community with behavioral health challenges and intellectual and developmental disabilities. AHCS is committed to preventing the occurrence of these conditions through an integrated community-based system of care. AHCS is committed to being responsive to individual needs and choices. Alleghany Highlands Community Services (AHCS) began in 1983 and is one of forty Community Services Boards and Behavioral Health Authorities established under the Code of Virginia to provide comprehensive services to individuals who have mental health disorders, intellectual disabilities, or substance use disorders. As the publicly funded safety net for service delivery, we must continuously monitor and evaluate our cost for services as well as the effectiveness of what we do. AHCS operates multiple service sites throughout the Alleghany Highlands, with over 150 employees working to support our services. We are proud to have served our community for 30 years. AHCSB is accountable to and licensed by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) for the quality of care and fiscal
accountability of the programs under its jurisdiction. AHCS is governed by a nine-person all-volunteer board appointed with members from each jurisdiction by local governing bodies – Alleghany County, Clifton Forge and the City of Covington. The Board members are people from the community with various occupations and interests who serve three-year terms of office.

đź’™ October is National Guardianship Awareness Month!

At Alleghany Highlands Community Services, we recognize the importance of helping adults live with dignity, safety, choice, and respect. Our guardianship program, Public Guardian Partnership, Inc., reflects that commitment through person-centered support and advocacy.

This month, we’re proud to recognize Amanda Webb for her work with our guardianship program. Thank you, Amanda, for supporting the individuals we serve and helping ensure their needs, preferences, and voices remain at the center of their care. Your work makes a meaningful difference! 💙

We also thank the families, professionals, advocates, and community partners who work together to protect rights and support the well-being of adults who need guardianship services.

đź’™ Celebrating Developmental Services Support Coordinators! đź’™

During Case Management Week, we're recognizing the dedicated team behind our Developmental Services Support Coordination program at Alleghany Highlands Community Services!

Our Support Coordinators do so much more than connect individuals to services. They advocate, problem-solve, coordinate resources, and find creative solutions to help individuals with developmental disabilities live meaningful, fulfilling lives.

From securing specialized equipment and essential resources to coordinating medical, behavioral, transportation, and community supports, this team works tirelessly to ensure the individuals they serve have the opportunities and support they need to thrive.

Beyond their daily responsibilities, you'll find them out in our community raising awareness, building relationships, supporting families, and making a difference in countless ways.
