ONE SPACE JUST OPENED! Could it be yours?
The Art of Receiving
Friday, October 30 | Crofton Yoga & Wellness

When was the last time you allowed yourself to simply receive?

No expectations. No giving. No doing. Just time for YOU. 💜

When's the last time you actually stopped to check in with yourself? Not scrolling, not multitasking just you.

That's self-study (Swadhyaya) — this month's theme, and we're closing it out with four simple ways actually to practice it.
🌿 Hand to belly, hand to chest breathe, and turn your attention inward
🌤️ When your mind feels crowded, remember: I am the sky, not the storm
🧘 Give rest actual attention — sit for two minutes and just notice
💨 Feel the fullness of the inhale, and the letting go of the exhale

Give one a try and let us know what you notice ⬇️

Make it a GREAT day on PURPOSE! 🕊️

Swadhyaya (svah-DHYAH-yah) — self-study. Not performing, not fixing. Just knowing who you are when no one's watching.

I recently got away and had real time with my own thoughts, a reminder of why I do this work at all. There's a poem by Naomi Shihab Nye, "Famous," that's been on my mind since. One line in particular: "The idea you carry close to your bosom is famous to your bosom." She flips our whole idea of fame: true fame isn't about an audience. It's quiet, deep connection.

That's how I try to show up here too. Not a famous Instagram yogi, not an untouchable guru, your guide on the side, walking this with you. And I couldn't do any of it without Steve, our teachers, and this whole community.

This week: try "Gratitude as a Compass" — type Gratitude Compass in the comments and we'll send you a link to one of our guided yoga nidra videos

What quiet thing are you most grateful for today?

Swadhyaya (svah-DHYAH-yah): self-study. This week: the things that irritate us in others often say more about us than them.

Steve likes to arrive right on time (sometimes a few minutes late). I like to arrive early. For years, we each judged the other through our own idea of "on time": his lateness looked like disregard to me, my earliness looking like impatience to him. Neither of us was doing anything wrong. We were just seeing through our own lens.

This week: next time something someone does irritates you, pause. Ask — what is this showing me about myself?

Swadhyaya (svah-DHYAH-yah), self-study — not fixing yourself, just watching yourself honestly, without judgment.

Route 3 near the studio is unpredictable these days. A 20-minute drive can turn into an hour with zero warning, and for a long time, our only response was gripping the wheel and getting grumbly about it. Then we noticed we had a choice about what to do with ourselves while we sat there.

Now we look. A pollinator garden we'd never have seen without being stuck long enough to notice the sign. A cut tree limb shaped like a heart. The sky.

The traffic doesn't change. We do.

Tapas (TAH-pahs) is friction produced by going against the grain the willingness to feel uncomfortable on purpose. This month, we've explored it as repetition that reshapes the brain, the discipline of true rest, and persistence: the stream that wears down the rock, not through force, but by simply showing up again and again.

This week, closing out National Healthy Aging Month, an important caution. Tapas isn't meant to burn you out; it's meant to build you up. If a practice leaves you depleted instead of strengthened, that's a sign to adjust, not push harder.

Bamboo spends years building roots underground before it ever breaks the surface. Then it grows faster than almost any plant on Earth. The invisible effort was never wasted.

This week: take stock of whatever fire you're tending. Is it building you up, or wearing you down?

Make it a GREAT day on PURPOSE! 🔥
