Your hip watching you struggle to fix your back knowing damn well it’s the problem

Sometimes your back is not the real issue.

It’s just the area taking the hit.

If one hip is stiff, weak, or not doing its job, your back may start picking up the slack every time you squat, walk, run, or train.

That can lead to:

• Back pain that keeps coming back
• Shifting during squats
• One-sided tightness
• Difficulty loading one leg
• Pain that never fully improves

Stretching your back might give you temporary relief.

But if the real limiter is your hip, the problem is still there.

At RXN Performance, we look at how your entire body is moving so we can find what is actually driving the pain.

Because the goal is not to keep chasing symptoms.

It’s to fix the weak link and help you move with confidence again.

DM us “BACK” and let’s find out what’s really driving your pain.

Feel off balance in your split squat?

Here’s why.

Most people let their front knee
shift outward as they lower down.

That changes how your foot connects to the ground
and makes it harder to control your balance.

Instead, try this:

Bring your front knee slightly inward
and keep your weight on the inside of your foot.

This helps you use the front of your knee
and the back half of your hip
as you lower into the split squat.

The result?

More control.
More stability.
And less shifting from side to side.

This applies to more than just split squats.

Hinges, lunges, and other single-leg movements
all require your knee and foot to work together.

If your knee shifts out
and your foot rolls with it,
you lose the stability you need to move well.

If you try this and you’re still struggling
with knee pain or balance,
there may be more going on.

Do you keep resting because your back pain keeps coming back?

Rest can help calm things down.

But if you go back to training and the same pain returns, rest probably isn’t the entire solution.

You might not have a “bad back.”

You might have a movement or capacity problem that hasn’t been addressed yet.

If you never figure out why your back keeps getting irritated, you can end up stuck in the same cycle:

Pain → rest → feel better → start training → pain comes back.

That’s where a proper assessment matters.

At RXN Performance, we look at how you move, what your body can currently handle, and what may be contributing to the problem.

Then we build a plan to restore the movement, strengthen the weak links, and progressively increase your capacity.

Because the goal isn’t just to get your back feeling better while you’re resting.

It’s to build a body that can handle the things you want to do.

If you’re tired of repeating the same cycle, click the link in our bio to book a FREE 15-minute Discovery Call and see if RXN Performance is a good fit for you.

Still dealing with an old ACL injury that doesn’t feel right?

Cora came to RXN Performance with an old left ACL injury that still bothered her.

Her knee felt weaker.
It would sometimes swell.
And at times, it felt shifty.

She knew something wasn’t right, but she didn’t want to keep letting the injury limit her.

After seeing the experience her husband had at RXN Performance, Cora decided to get started too.

Through care, she built better habits around training and learned how to stay consistent, even on the days she didn’t feel 100%.

Now, she feels more confident taking care of her body and sees her care as an investment in her long-term health.

Old injuries do not have to control what you can do every day.

With the right plan, you can rebuild strength, improve confidence, and get back to doing the things you love.

If you’re ready to get your knee back in order, click the link in our bio to book your free 15- to 20-minute Discovery Call.

Static stretching alone won’t fix your low back pain.

It might feel good for a few minutes.

But if your back constantly feels tight,
stretching harder is not always the answer.

You need to help your back build strength
through the range of motion it’s struggling with.

One of my favorite exercises for this is the Jefferson Curl.

Stand on a raised surface
with your feet close to the edge.

Hold a kettlebell in your hands,
keep a slight bend in your knees,
and slowly relax your head, shoulders, and back
as you fold forward.

Let your back move through its full range.

Then slowly come back up,
stacking your spine piece by piece.

The goal is not to force the stretch.

It’s to help your low back
become stronger and more capable
as it moves through that range.

That’s the difference between simply stretching a tight area
and building a back that can handle more.

At RXN Performance, we use exercises like this
to help our patients build strength,
restore movement,
and get back to the activities they love.

But if this exercise makes you nervous,
or your back keeps hurting every time you work out,
you may need more than another stretch.

Want to improve your squat mobility? Start with these 3 tools.

Try these movements with control and focus on how your hips, ankles, and torso move throughout the squat pattern:

1. 90/90 Upright

2. 90/90 Side-Lying Complex

3. TRX Lateral Lunge

Use these as part of your warm-up or mobility work, but don’t force a range of motion that causes pain. The goal is to build control and gradually improve access to the positions you need.

Mobility is individual, so if your squat is still limited, the next step is figuring out whether strength, control, joint motion, or technique is holding you back.

Save this for your next leg day warm-up.

Can’t do planks because of your back pain? Try this adjustment.

If your low back starts hurting during a plank, take a look at your position.

Are your hips dropping toward the floor?

That sagging position can make it harder to properly brace your core and may put more stress through your low back.

Instead, try this:

Set up on your elbows and toes, then gently pull your ribs and abs in. Keep your hips slightly higher instead of letting them fall, and squeeze your glutes as you hold the position.

You should feel your core working harder without forcing your low back to do all the work.

The goal isn’t to hold a plank for as long as possible. It’s to maintain a position you can actually control.

If this adjustment doesn’t help, or if your back pain continues, don’t keep pushing through it. There may be more contributing to the problem than your plank setup alone.

What does care actually look like at RXN Performance?

It starts in the treatment room with hands-on care, including adjustments and soft tissue work, when appropriate for your needs.

But that’s only one part of the process.

Once you’re ready to move, we take things into the gym.

That’s where we work on the strength, control, and capacity you need to get back to the activities that matter to you.

Because feeling better is important.
But building the confidence to move, train, and perform is what helps create lasting progress.

Every plan is individualized based on where you are now and where you want to go.
Our goal is to help you make progress, learn what your body needs, and become more independent over time.

Brian didn’t want to stop lifting.

He wanted to figure out why his knee kept limiting him.

After working with other providers, he felt like he was being given exercises without anyone identifying the specific issue behind his pain.

At RXN Performance, Brian was looking for a more hands-on approach that connected the evaluation to the exercises, strength work, and movements he actually cared about.

Together, we worked on his knee while also looking at how he squats, lifts, runs, and moves in the gym.

Since completing care, Brian is back to high-bar back squats with weights he hadn’t used in years, running two to three days per week, and moving through everyday activities with much more confidence.

His biggest takeaway?

The plan was specific to him, and the coaching continued into the gym so he could apply it to the activities that matter most.

Every person and injury is different, but if pain is keeping you from lifting, running, playing sports, or simply moving the way you want to, individualized care may be the next step.
