Every August, the leis come out at Lighthouse. 🌺

It’s become one of those traditions both Southern Haven and Walnut Creek know is coming, even though no two years ever look quite the same. And this year at Walnut Creek, inflatable tubes, plenty of water, and a very committed staff were all part of the fun. 😂

The tradition first started at Southern Haven in 2020 as an end-of-summer celebration, with Walnut Creek joining in for its first luau in 2022.

There were plenty of picture-worthy moments, but the best ones were the ones nobody could have planned: residents laughing at each other’s turns, staff running alongside the action, a wave to passing traffic, family joining in, and one smile after a ride across the lawn that pretty much summed up the whole afternoon.

And in between all of that, there was plenty of time to sit together, visit, laugh about what had just happened, and simply enjoy a summer afternoon together.

That’s the fun of keeping a tradition going. The luau comes around every August, but the moments that make each one memorable are always its own.
