Jubilee Speech Therapy llc

Jubilee Speech Therapy llc Jubilee Speech Therapy helps adults in Baldwin County, AL communicate clearly & safely through speech, language, memory, voice & swallowing therapy.

Serving Fairhope, Daphne, Foley & beyond. Now accepting new patients. I’m Valerie Lanier, M.S., CCC-SLP, and I’m the owner of Jubilee Speech Therapy LLC in Daphne, Alabama. I serve individuals and families across Daphne, Fairhope, and Baldwin County, including the greater Mobile and Baldwin County, AL area. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences (minor in Psychology) from t

he University of South Alabama (2013) and my Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (2015) from the same university. I have 8 years of experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist (Speech Therapist) in Skilled Nursing Facility settings, treating adult conditions such as stroke/CVA, traumatic brain injury (TBI), Parkinson’s disease, dementia, cognitive-communication disorders, and dysphagia (swallowing disorders). My work is driven by two big passions: communication and swallowing. Most people expect mobility might change over time, but almost nobody anticipates what it feels like when talking becomes difficult, or when eating and drinking stop feeling simple. I knew I was in the right field when I observed a stroke survivor with expressive aphasia fight their way back to saying, “I love you.”

I’m especially passionate about swallowing therapy because swallowing impacts more than nutrition; it impacts confidence and connection. Meals are where life happens. When swallowing becomes difficult, people often start avoiding food and social gatherings, and isolation grows fast. My goal is to help you safely rebuild skills so daily life feels normal again. At Jubilee Speech Therapy, I provide adult speech therapy, cognitive therapy, and swallowing therapy (dysphagia treatment) in in-home and outpatient settings so the progress we make carries over into everyday routines. Common questions I hear:
Do you offer in-home speech therapy in Daphne, AL? Yes—depending on your needs and location. Do you treat swallowing problems (dysphagia)? Yes, including swallow rehabilitation and
safe-strategy training. Do you help after stroke? Yes—speech, language, and cognitive-communication support
for stroke recovery. If you or a loved one is experiencing speech changes, language difficulty, memory or thinking challenges, voice concerns, or swallowing difficulty, I’m here in Daphne, Alabama to help. Call or message Jubilee Speech Therapy LLC to schedule an evaluation and get clear next steps.

Doctor visits can move fast; you walk in numerous questions, get asked how you are doing, and suddenly your brain starts reeling and you forget what you were going to ask about.

So before you go, write down what concerns you. Words getting stuck? Voice weaker? Coughing when eating? Trouble following conversations? Forgetting steps in daily tasks? A small list can make a big difference, because you could then ask: “Could these symptoms be connected, and would a speech therapy referral help?”

Set up an appointment with your doctor to discuss whether speech therapy is the right course of action for you.

Why do you need a doctor’s referral before starting speech therapy? It’s one of the first questions people ask, and honestly, it makes sense. When you’re ready to get help, nobody wants an extra step standing in the doorway holding a clipboard.

But that referral does more than you might think.

Our newest blog breaks down why this first step matters, what it can mean for your care, and how it helps make the therapy process clearer from the beginning.

Give it a read under Insights on the Jubilee Speech Therapy website.

When talking with your doctor about speech therapy, you don’t need fancy medical words. Just explain what daily life feels like.

“I lose my words.”
“My speech sounds unclear.”
“I cough when I eat or drink.”
“My voice feels weaker.”
“I get frustrated in conversations.”

Since Jubilee Speech Therapy requires a physician referral, those real-life details can help your doctor understand what’s changed and decide if speech therapy is the right next step.

Before starting speech therapy, ask your doctor: “Could speech therapy help with what I’m experiencing?”

Since Jubilee Speech Therapy requires a physician referral, your doctor is the best place to begin. Mention any changes with speech, memory, word-finding, swallowing, voice, or communication.

The more specific you are, the easier it is to take the next step.

Ask your doctor if speech therapy may be right for you or someone you love.

After a stroke, even familiar words can become difficult.

A person may pause, repeat themselves, say the wrong word, or describe what they mean instead of saying the exact word. For example, they may say “the thing you write with” when they mean “pen.”

That word is not gone forever. It may just be harder for the brain to access right now.

Speech therapy helps rebuild those connections through practice, repetition, visual cues, conversation exercises, and real-life strategies that support communication at home.

If you or someone you love is having trouble finding words after a stroke in Daphne, Fairhope, Spanish Fort, or anywhere on the Eastern Shore of Alabama, contact your medical provider and ask for a referral to Jubilee Speech Therapy.

“Rescue breaths helped me feel calmer. They also gave me better breath control.”

That feeling is more real than a lot of people realize. In speech therapy, rescue breaths are quick, simple breathing strategies that can help during episodes when the throat feels tight, the airway seems to “catch,” or breathing starts to feel panicky and out of sync. Speech-language pathologists often teach these techniques as part of respiratory retraining for voice and throat-based breathing problems such as vocal cord dysfunction or related laryngeal breathing issues.

At Jubilee Speech Therapy, this kind of work is not about “just take a deep breath and hope for the best.” It is about learning how to reduce tension, improve control, and respond with a calmer, more effective breathing pattern when symptoms show up.

If breathing, voice, or throat tightness has become part of daily life after illness or stroke, talk with your doctor about a referral to Jubilee Speech Therapy.

Recovery does not always start with full sentences or a big breakthrough. Sometimes it starts with one sound, one syllable, or one word becoming a little clearer.

That may not seem like much to other people, but it can mean everything to the person working through it. Think of it like dominoes falling. One small step can lead to bigger progress over time. In speech therapy, those early wins often help build the momentum that makes the next step possible.

After a stroke or another neurological condition, speech therapy often helps rebuild communication one small step at a time. With patience, practice, and the right support, those small steps can lead to real progress.

Every clear sound matters. Every word matters. And every bit of progress is worth celebrating.

Sometimes progress looks dramatic.

Sometimes it looks like saying a word more clearly, finishing a sentence with less effort, swallowing with more ease, or joining a conversation without as much worry.

Those little victories are not little at all. They are the building blocks of a more comfortable life.

That is what speech therapy is really about, and Jubilee Speech Therapy is here for every step forward.
