Man. Y’all want some drama. Welcome to my day. This from a very big shop on the east coast. I’m flabbergasted. Get your popcorn.
We normally don’t discuss individual customer situations publicly, but since Laurie has chosen to make accusations about Earthy Girl, we feel we owe our customers, fellow small businesses, and ourselves some context.
This situation is especially heartbreaking because we were genuinely excited about Laurie’s order. She is well known within the witch community, and we hoped this might be the beginning of a wonderful, long-term relationship between two businesses within a community we love.
Instead, we have been left incredibly disappointed, hurt, and honestly a little heartbroken by how the situation has unfolded.
The handcrafted wands Laurie purchased are products we regularly sell for $20 at events, and we have sold many of them wholesale through Faire to retailers who have been happy with their purchases. The listing provides photographs and sizing information, and the products shipped were consistent with what was represented.
This was also a Halloween order placed approximately two weeks before Halloween. When Laurie became concerned about receiving it in time, she asked us to expedite the order. At the time, we were in the middle of relocating our entire shop. Even so, we rearranged our workload and spent four days handcrafting the order so we could get it out ahead of the original timeline. We also included additional merchandise at no charge as a gesture of goodwill.
Every handmade product that leaves Earthy Girl is created with love and positive intentions. These aren’t mass-produced items coming off an assembly line. Real people sit down and make them with their hands. That’s why having that work dismissed as “junk” and our small business called a “scam” genuinely hurts.
When Laurie told us she was unhappy, we offered to accept a return. That offer remains available, but may have been turned down by faire themselves.
What has been particularly troubling is having accusations against our integrity accompanied by statements about negative reviews and disputing the charge. We respect Laurie’s standing within the witch community, but having a larger platform or a well-known name should never create a situation where a small business feels it must quietly accept being spoken to or about this way.
For clarity, we have retained screenshots of our complete conversation, along with the order information, product listing, and shipping records. We are not interested in turning a private business disagreement into a public spectacle, but we will substantiate what we have said if our integrity or the facts surrounding this transaction are challenged.
We welcome honest feedback. We will work to resolve legitimate concerns. And sometimes one of our products simply won’t be the right fit for someone’s shop. That’s okay.
But there is a difference between being dissatisfied with a purchase and attacking the character, integrity, and handmade work of the people behind a small business.
We stand behind our products. We stand behind how we handled this situation. And most importantly, we remain grateful for every customer, retailer, artist, maker, and member of this community who has supported Earthy Girl.
We were excited about what we thought could become a lasting relationship with Laurie. We’re genuinely sad that instead, it ended this way.
