Baby in arms are welcome, and if you’ve been at our space, you know it’s very baby friendly and you can stop the class anytime to nurse or change a diapey.

Much of the severe suffering during an initial birth experience stems from a mental resistance to the process. First-time mothers (I do this every labor) often try to analyze or control the intense sensations using their intellect rather than surrendering to the body.

Surrender means working with the physical sensations instead of tensing against them, and allowing your instinctual body to take over.

Each birth, I am reminded of how birth requires deep surrender, vulnerability, courage and determination.

The transition into motherhood is deeply sacred and birthing your baby at home honors this to the highest level. We love supporting first time mothers despite it requiring the most of us as providers.

I pray for all of our mothers and their families. I pray they stay firmly rooted, spiritually nourished, and resilient through life’s changing seasons. There is something particularly brutal and immensely beautiful about a first pregnancy, birth and postpartum that no one can fully prepare you for, but a well supported mother can move through it all beautifully and come out stronger than she ever thought possible.

Posting a little early ;) Mark your calendars, set an alarm or two and enjoy some time with other Mamas. I particularly want to highlight the baby wearing circle. We have had a few new donations to our lending library, and Kaila brings some extra ones with her to help you find the perfect fit! You will leave feeling confident you are wearing your baby safely and that your comfort is prioritized.

As always, we have the weekly support groups during the first 3 weeks of the month. Starting Monday, June 1st we have Danielle holding space for all the Mamas in the season of nursing, pumping and nourishing their babies! The second week, April, holds space (and always brings a delicious assortment of goodies) and then the third week, we have the lovely Sylvia hosting her 4 year strong support group, first bringing her sweetie Isla when she was a baby, and now Phoebe.

Grateful for all of these women. Holding space takes a special someone.

Lastly, If you had a baby out of the hospital, you probably have not had them screened for hearing defects. Dr.Blair Handy offers this vital screening once per month here and you can reach out to her directly to schedule.

Birth affirmation cards are a lovely activity to do while preparing for the embarkment of labor. Placing them around your home, at your altar or designated birth space weeks before your due date is the ideal time. In labor, you will be traveling to another dimension and it’s unlikely you’d even notice these cards much, but your birth team can use them as a guide to what words resonate with your heart. 🌊

It's official, I'm on maternity leave 📣! As a midwife, stepping away isn't easy, but motherhood has been a lifelong dream. With 3 little ones, I'm savoring every moment. I'll return to work at the end of fall, but until then, I'll be supporting from behind the scenes. Let's give a warm welcome back to Reina, who's helping us out through the end of the year!
