Carlos Spaulding Sr., 86, of Duncan Fork, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on October 16, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 15, 1940, to the late John Spaulding and Glenna Estepp Spaulding.

In addition to his parents, Carlos was preceded in death by his loving wife of 38 years, Wilma Hunter Spaulding, his son, Kenny Spaulding, and his brothers, Johnny Spaulding and Dallas Spaulding.

Carlos enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, especially hunting and fishing and ginsenging. He treasured the time he spent with his family, particularly his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of his greatest pleasures in life was watching his great-grandchildren play basketball and volleyball, cheering them on and taking pride in their accomplishments. His love for his family and the memories they shared will forever hold a special place in their hearts. Carlos was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he proudly served his country for 10 years.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Carlos Spaulding Jr., Herbert Spaulding (Tara), and David Spaulding; his daughters, Carla Dempsey (Gary), Ruby Bowen, and Glenna Westfield; and his sister, Donna Sherry. He also leaves behind a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry his memory with them always.

In accordance with Carlos's wishes, no services are scheduled at this time.

Harold Mullins, 76, of Wharncliffe, West Virginia, passed away on October 13, 2026, while a patient at Logan Regional Medical Center. He was born on December 5, 1949, to the late Judge and Gladys Brown Mullins.

Harold was a man who found happiness in the simple things in life. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and tending to his garden. A devoted NASCAR fan, he especially enjoyed watching his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt. Harold was also a proud Army veteran who honored the opportunity to serve his country.

Above all else, Harold loved his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a tremendous source of joy and pride in his life. The time he spent with them was among his most treasured blessings, and the love he shared with his family created memories that will be cherished for generations to come. His presence, his love, and the special moments they shared will forever hold a place in the hearts of those who loved him.

In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Carmella Mullins; his brothers, Judge Howard Mullins Jr., Mack Mullins, Douglas Mullins, French Mullins, Dwight Mullins, and Jack Mullins; and his sisters, Mable Spradlin, Helen Austin, Deloris Mullins, Nell Flood, and Shelby Smith.

Jonathan Montgomery, 44, of Ragland, West Virginia, passed away on October 1st, 2026 in South Williamson, Kentucky, at ARH Regional Medical Center. He was born on August 25, 1982, to Peggy Griffey.

Jonathan was preceded in death by his dad Rush “Ol Man” Sheppard, son, Coalson Rowdy Montgomery; his daughter, Sierra Nicole Montgomery; and his nieces, Angel Runyon and Christina Sloane.

Jonathan enjoyed collecting knives and working on cars. He was a diehard Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan and loved his children dearly. He also enjoyed traveling and making memories with those he loved.

In addition to his mom, Jonathan leaves behind to cherish his memory the love of his life, Joi RaQuel Kinser; his sons, Jonathan Tyler Montgomery (Brooklyn Kent) and Waylon Cash Kinser; his daughters, Kylie Audrianna Montgomery and M’Kya Jhayce Williamson; his brothers, Johnny Ball (Kristie), Paul Sheppard (Cheryl), and Steve Sheppard (Shonda); and his sisters, Teresa Blackburn (Roscoe) and Sharon Ball (Jimmy Blair).

Visitation will be held at Chafin Funeral Home in Delbarton, West Virginia, on Monday, October 5, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A service will be held at 7:00 p.m., with Elder Acie Copley and Elder Timmy Layne officiating.

Kimberly Sue Preece, 67, of Belo, West Virginia, gained her heavenly wings on September 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. After a long and difficult journey, Kim is finally free from pain and suffering and resting peacefully in the arms of Jesus. Kim was born on March 12, 1959, in Williamson, West Virginia, to Ruth (Brown) Boggs.

Kim was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Ruth, for whom Kim lovingly served as a caregiver, and her grandparents, Elmer and Polly Brown.

She was a loving mother, Gran-Gran, Great-Gran-Gran, sister, aunt, cousin, niece, and best friend. Kim found joy in cooking, caring for the people she loved, and, most of all, spending time with her family. Her love for her family knew no bounds. Kim was fiercely protective of those she loved and never hesitated to stand up for them. She loved deeply, gave freely, and would do anything for the people who meant the most to her. Her family was her world, and she loved them with every part of her heart. Her absence will leave a space that can never be filled, and she will be missed more than words could ever express.

Robert Martin Mahon, of Naugatuck, WV, passed away peacefully on September 4th, 2026 at the age of 88. He was born on January 27, 1938 in Belo, WV to Dewey and Alice Mahon.

He proudly served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958 as a Specialist Third Class in the Quartermaster Corps. During his service he trained at Fort Ord, California, completed Food Service School, and served at Fort Lee, Virginia. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and continued his service from 1958 to 1962 in the U.S. Army Reserve. He brought his love of cooking home, and enjoyed making meals for his family.

Following his military service, he worked in the coal mining industry before dedicating many years of his life to his career as a skilled carpenter. Through his craftsmanship, he left a lasting mark on countless homes and lives. Robert was a dedicated, hard-working man who believed that nothing in life is given—everything is earned. Known for his upbeat sense of humor and bold, feisty personality, he brought warmth and laughter to those around him. He cherished time with his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he considered his “best buddies.” Robert had a generous spirit and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. In his free time, he loved being outdoors—whether hunting, fishing, or digging roots—always enjoying the work, the challenge, and the natural world around him.

On September 3rd, 2026 Shirley ‘Davis’ Maynard, 83, went to her Heavenly home. Born March 29th, 1943, she was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, Mamaw and Granny Maw. Her home was a place of love, laughter, and togetherness. It was where generations gathered to visit, play, share meals and make memories. Shirley will always be remembered for not only the love she gave, but that she lived her life for God and was a true, dedicated Christian all her life. She was a longtime member of the Elk Creek Freewill Baptist Church.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Maynard, her father and mother, Frank and Roxie ‘Estepp’ Davis, and brother Frank (Chris) Davis Jr, and her son-in-law Hubert Clark.

She is survived by her children: Veronica (Lester) Hignite, Darlene Altizer, Doug (Janie) Maynard, Patricia (Hubert) Clark, Edward (Kathryn) Maynard, Paxton Maynard, Prescott Maynard, and William (Adela) Maynard; grandchildren: Lester (Amanda) Hignite, Brittany (Isaac) Dingess, Madison (Kevin) Hodge, Ella Michelle Clark, Steven (Tierney) Clark, Hollie (Rocky) Matney, Peyton Evans, Katelyn (Ronald) Linville, Wesley Maynard, Bradley Maynard, and Michael Jude; great-grandchildren: Lester “Bug”, Rowan, Sophia, Knox, Landree, Aubree, Noah, Cassian, Titan and Saturn and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Honoring Shirley’s wishes, no funeral services will be held.

Michael “Mike” Wiley, 70, of Elk Creek, West Virginia, passed away on August 30, 2026, while inpatient at the University of Kentucky Hospital. Born on July 28, 1956, he was the son of the late Ira Wiley and June Belcher Wiley.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brothers James Wiley, Wi******er Wiley, and Johnny Wiley. Along with his companion of 40 years Bernice Gilman.

Mike was happiest outdoors, spending his time fishing, camping, and enjoying the quiet beauty of nature. Above all, he cherished the moments he shared with his grandchildren, who brought him tremendous joy throughout his life.

Those left to honor his memory include his children: Jason Gilman, John Gilman Jr., and Denice Hall Gilman (William Hall); his sister, Joann Wiley; grandchildren: Ashley Hall, Madison Gilman, Brianna Fletcher, Amber Adkins, Linda Blevins, Kristy Adkins (Harmon), and William Hall Jr.; and great‑grandchildren: Nevaeh Hall, Mikey Hall, Jayden Hall, Braxton Adkins, Alex Adkins, Austin Adkins, Jacob Blevins, Cameron Blevins, Christopher Gilman, Jeremy Gilman, Gracie Tapia, Sammy Curry, Eli Curry, and Julian Tapia. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews who will deeply miss him.

Visitation will be held at Chafin Funeral Home in Delbarton, WV, on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM with Elder Eddie Layne officiating.

James Arthur Clark, 78, of Maiden, NC passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

Born January 2, 1948, in Mingo County, West Virginia, James was the beloved son of the late Hubert Lawrence Clark and Vesta Blankenship Clark. He was a man who knew the value of family, hard work, and making something with his own two hands.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brothers, Hubert Clark, Jr. and Jerry Clark, and his son, Andy Clark.

James proudly served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army. He also had the unique honor of riding one of the lead horses in President Eisenhower’s funeral parade, a memory that reflected his connection to the people and traditions around him.

A talented carpenter, James loved building things. He could take raw materials and turn them into something useful, lasting, and meaningful. But perhaps his greatest work was the life he built with the people he loved. He leaves behind a family who will remember his strength, his stories, his hands that were always busy, and the many ways he made an impact on their lives.

James is survived by his wife of 16 years, Tracy Clark of the home; his sons, James A. Rileigh Sullivan, 15, of Delbarton, WV, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2026, while inpatient at Cabell Huntington Hospital. She was born on May 2, 2011, to Joshua and Racheal Williams.

Rileigh was preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Frances Colangelo; her Grandpa Larry Conley; and a dear family friend, James Metz.

Rileigh had a beautiful laugh that could bring light to even the simplest of days. She loved listening to music and, most of all, cherished the time she spent with her siblings. Her presence brought love and joy to those around her, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents Joshua and Racheal Williams, those left to cherish Rileigh’s memory include her brothers, Ethan Williams, Logan Williams, Mack Metz, and Rowan Metz; her sisters, Serinity Metz and Hailey Williams; her grandparents, Linda Williams, Yvonne Colangelo, Maris Williams, and Estal Sullivan (Phyllis); her uncles, Brandon Conley (Kelsey) and Damian Colangelo (Bristy); and her au nts, Stephanie Maynard, Suzanne Sullivan, and Amanda Goble. James Hynd, 59, of Delbarton, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on August 23, 2026. He was born on March 6, 1967, to the late William Hynd and Janith Browning.

James enjoyed spending time with his family and cherished the days he spent riding his Harley.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Michelle Hynd; sons, Cory Hynd (Kiearia), Nathan Hynd, Jody Hynd and Austin Copley; daughter, Grace Hynd; three brothers and one sister; and his grandchildren, Tate, Ella, Knox, and Callan along with several others.
