Don’t Let Your Carbs Go Out Naked!

Ever heard the term naked carbs? It simply means eating carbohydrates by themselves, without protein, healthy fat, or fiber to keep them company.

When carbs fly solo, they can cause a quicker rise in blood sugar and insulin, often followed by an energy crash, increased hunger, and those “I need a snack NOW” feelings a couple of hours later.

The easiest way to help steady the ride? Include protein at every meal and snack.

Think:
✔️ Sourdough + turkey slices
✔️ Apple + cottage cheese
✔️ Crackers + tuna
✔️ Oatmeal + Greek yogurt
✔️ Fruit + a protein shake

Protein helps slow digestion, supports muscle health, improves fullness, and can reduce the dramatic blood sugar ups and downs that leave us feeling tired and craving more food.

So next time you’re reaching for a carb, ask yourself: “What can I pair with this?”

Your energy, blood sugar, and appetite will thank you.

🍽️ Eating out doesn’t have to mean throwing your goals out the window.

Before a show with a friend, I stopped at a Thai restaurant and ordered Penang curry with chicken breast and lots of vegetables. It was absolutely delicious, satisfying, and fit right into my day.

One of the biggest mindset shifts I teach is this: you don’t need perfect choices, you need purposeful choices.

When you’re looking at a restaurant menu, ask yourself:
Where’s my protein?
Can I add vegetables?
Will this meal keep me satisfied and energized?
That’s often enough to guide you toward a meal you’ll enjoy without feeling deprived.

I turned my homemade kefir into a thick, creamy Chocolate Baobab Kefir Pudding, and it feels like dessert while packing in protein, probiotics, fiber, and nourishing ingredients.

Wizzy S Salad for dinner… a little nutrition wisdom in a bowl. 🥗

Instead of loading it up with fatty meat and heavy dressing, I used a moderate amount of lean chicken breast and a mostly vinegar-based dressing to keep things light, while a heaping tablespoon of feta added richness and satisfaction.

I tossed in a couple teaspoons of pepitas -these tiny green powerhouses bring magnesium, zinc, healthy fats, and a bit of extra protein to the party. 🌱

Strawberries added natural sweetness, bright flavor, and a pop of color without turning the salad into dessert.

One thing I love about THM is that wisdom often looks like balance, not excess. Sometimes the best meal isn’t the one with the most of any one ingredient. It’s the one where each ingredient brings something valuable to the table.
