They say hard work always pays off, but it is an unforgettable feeling when it actually happens! Just when you think you're quietly doing the work, you get a beautiful reminder that people are noticing.A massive, heartfelt thank you to the Wayne County Community College District and Dr. Curtis L. Ivery’s Chancellor’s Weekend Memo for honoring me and our dedicated work in curriculum development. Building and enhancing our courses for Mental Health, Social Work, Human Services, and Addiction Studies is a true labor of love. I am so proud of how we dive in, collaborate, and create better pathways for our amazing students. To be highlighted like this—especially looking back at my last 18 years of work—means the world to me. Thank you for watching, supporting, and celebrating this journey with me!

Reflecting on America’s 250th anniversary, it’s incredible to see how far we've come and how much the world can change in just a few generations. When we look back at the defining milestones of our history—from the promise of the Emancipation Proclamation and the liberation celebrated on Juneteenth to the relentless progress of the Civil Rights Movement and economic milestones like the Equal Credit Opportunity Act—we are reminded that everyday decisions affect us all.It proves that in a single generation, anyone, from any family, can make an extraordinary difference. Although we live in perilous times, I still believe. I still hold hope that we can continue building a better place and a more perfect union. This picture was taken at the Michigan Democratic Women's Caucus Annual Legacy Luncheon held at Huntington Place in Detroit, MI.

Introductory psychoeducational social skills group, with the call facilitator. This was fun. We were able to display several skills, such as Active and Reflective listening, Questioning, Linking, Leveling and Sharpening, just to name a few. This is how a psychoeducational group addresses anxiety. Please share, watch, listen and learn.

For this of you don't know the history:

Juneteenth, officially Juneteenth National Independence Day, is a federal holiday in the United States. It is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. The holiday's name, first used in the 1890s, is a portmanteau of June and nineteenth, referring to June 19, 1865, the day when Major General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas at the end of the American Civil War.
I know it's a new holiday to some but it's well deserved. And let us take a rest, which is something I ancestors did not have the opportunity to do.

Happy Juneteenth

This was one of the best sermons that I've seen that addresses the Biopsychosocial model- a holistic framework in Medicine and psychology stating that health, illness and human behavior are the result of intricate interacting factors. It means that to truly understand someone, you must look at the whole person, rather than just certain behaviors. I have included subtext to assist one with understanding how to hear this message from a clinical, a physical, and a spiritual/religious lens with Biblical context on the subjects of Accountability and Growth . . Thank you I am using this as a teachable moment in my instruction time in my collegiate class as well as when I am teaching psychoeducational skills to clients in therapy. Please watch listen and share.

The past two years have been a remarkable journey as part of the Michigan Democratic Women's Caucus Annual Legacy Luncheon. This experience has inspired me to continue advocating for the rights of women and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. Our voices matter.

Participating in this event was uplifting and reminded me of the significance of organizing. While we have made strides, our fight is far from over.

A heartfelt thank you to Darlene McCoy, Virgie McCoy-Rollins, and Robyn McCoy for including me in this important work. Your support is always appreciated.

What shaped the psychology of Generation X? In this video, we explore the Gen X mindset, their emotional resilience, independence, skepticism, and how growing up during economic uncertainty, rising divorce rates, and rapid cultural change shaped their psychology.

Generation X born roughly between 1965 and 1980 is often called the “forgotten generation,” yet their psychological traits quietly influence modern work culture, parenting styles, and society as a whole. From self-reliance and emotional restraint to dark humor, cynicism, and adaptability, Gen X developed a unique psychological profile unlike Boomers or Millennials.

In this video, you’ll learn:

The core psychological traits of Generation X

How childhood neglect, latchkey culture, and media exposure shaped Gen X psychology

Why Gen X values independence, authenticity, and realism

The impact of economic instability and broken trust on their worldview

How Gen X compares psychologically to Millennials and Gen Z

Why Gen X is often misunderstood but highly resilient

This deep dive into the psychology of Gen X combines social psychology, generational theory, and cultural analysis to explain why Gen X thinks, feels, and behaves the way they do.

If you’re interested in generational psychology, human behavior, or understanding why Gen X doesn’t seek validation the way other generations do, this video is for you.
