👣 Happy National Barefoot Day! 👣
Did you know there are some incredible benefits to letting little feet go barefoot?
Our physical therapists are sharing why they love barefoot play and movement:
✅ Strengthens the small muscles of the feet that often don’t get fully activated inside shoes
✅ Improves balance, stability, and body awareness by increasing proprioceptive input
✅ Can help reduce tactile defensiveness, especially for children who toe walk, there are over 200,000 sensory nerve endings in our feet, with the highest concentration on the soles!
✅ Supports a strong foundation for movement. Just like a sturdy house needs a solid foundation, our bodies rely on strong, healthy feet for standing, walking, running, and jumping.
✅ Encourages natural arch development and shock absorption. Have you ever noticed how differently you land when running barefoot? Most people naturally shift from heel striking to landing and pushing off through the forefoot.
Whether it’s playing in the grass, exploring the sand, or enjoying some barefoot time at home, giving feet opportunities to move naturally can support healthy development from the ground up. 🌱👣
