Esthetician or Manual Lymphatic Drainage practitioner after a facial procedure: what’s the difference?

Both can play valuable roles in post-procedure care, but the training focus may be different.

An esthetician’s foundational education centers on skin care, facial treatments and the health and appearance of the skin. Some estheticians also complete additional training in Manual Lymphatic Drainage.

MLD-specific training focuses on the lymphatic system itself, including lymphatic anatomy and physiology, drainage pathways, contraindications and precautions, and the very light, precise techniques used to encourage lymphatic flow.

My practice focuses specifically on Manual Lymphatic Drainage for the head, neck and face, including specialized training in Vodder technique applications for facial care, surgery, trauma, pathology, and head and brain lymphatic work.

If you’re preparing for or recovering from a facial procedure, the most important question isn’t simply the practitioner’s title…it’s what training they have specifically in lymphatic care and whether that training fits your needs.

A beautiful evening ceremony at Emerald Bay today. 💙

You can definitely feel the seasons beginning to shift in Tahoe…the air was cooler, the light was fading earlier, and everything had that first hint of fall settling in.

Such a gorgeous setting for a wedding, with the lake, mountains, and trees surrounding everyone as they gathered to celebrate.

I never get tired of being part of ceremonies in places like this. ✨

A little peek inside my new treatment room. 🌿

After 3 months of moving, painting, organizing, and thoughtfully putting this new space together, my treatment room is finally ready to welcome clients.

I wanted this room to feel warm, peaceful, grounded, and comfortable: a place where you can settle in, exhale, and allow yourself some time to simply receive.

This is where I’ll be offering my hands-on services, including my foundational sessions, integrative sessions, CranioSacral Therapy, and Manual Lymphatic Drainage as I continue expanding my training and certifications.

There are still a few little finishing touches coming (because apparently I am incapable of declaring a room completely finished 😂), but it feels so good to finally be at the point where this space can begin doing what I created it for.

If you’ve tried to visit my website recently, you may have noticed that it was temporarily unavailable. What started as needing to address an issue with my previous site turned into a much bigger project…a complete rebuild from the ground up.

✨ A milestone worth celebrating.

After weeks of painting, moving, assembling furniture, decorating, and pouring so much heart into every detail, it was incredibly rewarding to finally welcome someone through the door and hear that they loved the calming atmosphere and energy of the space.

While I’m still adding a few final finishing touches, the office is officially open and ready to welcome clients.

A little office update… 🌿

The construction delays are finally behind me, and little by little this space is becoming everything I envisioned.

The bathroom is getting its botanical wallpaper (I underestimated and need one more roll to finish the walls and hang new light fixture 😄), the tea station is coming together, the plants have all found their homes, and each room is starting to feel warm, peaceful, and welcoming.

There are still finishing touches ahead: artwork, signage (ordered and on it’s way), window privacy film, and a few more details…but it’s exciting to finally see it taking shape.

I can’t wait to welcome everyone into this space very soon. 💚

Over the weekend, I had a chance to become my own case study.

On Saturday, June 20, I woke up with significant swelling around my eye. As a Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) therapist in training, I decided to document the process and track what happened over the next several days.

✨ Saturday (June 20): Swelling was concentrated in the upper eyelid.
✨ Sunday (June 21): After performing a Vodder-style neck and face sequence, the fluid began to move.
✨ Monday (June 22): After another neck and face sequence, the swelling continued to shift downward.
✨ Tuesday (June 23): No MLD performed today, but the final photo shows the fluid that had settled into the lower tear trough/tear sac area is now nearly gone.

Over the course of Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, I performed three neck and face MLD sequences. What’s fascinating is being able to actually see the movement of lymphatic fluid. The swelling didn’t simply disappear…it relocated and gradually drained as the lymphatic pathways were opened and encouraged to function more efficiently.

This is exactly why I’ve spent months studying Manual Lymph Drainage. The lymphatic system plays a critical role in fluid balance, healing, and inflammation management. Seeing these principles work on my own body was both validating and educational.

The photos tell the story: from an inflamed upper eyelid to almost complete resolution just a few days later. Doctors wanted to prescribe antibiotics but I declined.

Sometimes the best reminder of why we do this work is experiencing it firsthand.

Over the past few months, my practice has been quietly growing in a direction that feels deeply aligned with my passion for holistic healing and nervous system care.

Since March, I’ve completed:
✨ CranioSacral Therapy Level 1
✨ Applied Vodder Manual Lymphatic Drainage
✨ Holistic MLD for the Neck & Face
✨ Advanced MLD for Surgery, Trauma, and Pathology
✨ Head & Brain MLD for mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and post-concussion syndrome (PCS)

This journey has expanded the ways I can support the body while honoring the connection between the nervous system, lymphatic system, and our overall well-being.

My studies continue with CranioSacral Therapy Level 2 this fall, and I’ll complete my Vodder technique certification process later this year.

While many of you first came to know me through shamanic healing and animal communication, my practice has grown to embrace a broader vision of integrative care. I believe healing isn’t one-size-fits-all. Sometimes it involves energy work, sometimes gentle hands-on therapies, and often a combination of approaches that support the whole person.

I’m incredibly grateful for my teachers, my clients, and everyone who has encouraged me to continue learning and growing.

Here’s to new beginnings, continued education, and helping others find greater balance, resilience, and healing.
