The Kermés is what community healing looks like in real life. 💛 Here, culture is not an “extra.” Music, food, traditions, language, joy, and connection are all part of wellness and belonging. Families, artists, providers, volunteers, and neighbors come together in a space that feels genuine, welcoming, and deeply rooted in community.

It also changes the way people experience mental health care, making it feel human, connected, joyful, and accessible.
If you haven’t joined us yet, you’re missing something truly special. We hope to see you at the next Kermés! Stay tuned for the date.

We’re grateful to the United Way of the Greater Triangle for awarding El Futuro with a Durham County Department of Public Health Division of Child and Family Well-Being funding to support youth-focused, community-based mental health programming at El Futuro.

This investment comes at a critical time. Too many young people in our communities are navigating stress, isolation, and the lasting impacts of adversity.

With this support, we will expand programs that:

✨ Connect youth with caring adults and mentors
✨ Strengthen caregivers’ emotional support networks
✨ Create spaces where young people feel they belong

From youth leadership and expressive arts to family workshops and community gatherings, this funding helps us continue building spaces of calor humano, connection, and resilience for Latino families in Durham.

Mental health stigma still prevents many people in Latino communities from seeking support, asking questions, or even talking openly about what they’re experiencing. That’s why conversations, education, and culturally responsive care matter.

We’re honored to be featured in Vaya Health’s recent article on reducing stigma and improving access to mental health care. The article highlights the importance of creating spaces where people feel seen, understood, and supported.

At El Futuro, we remain committed to raising awareness around mental health stigma and helping our communities know that seeking support is a sign of strength — not shame.

We invite you to read the article and continue learning with us. 💚

May is almost over, but you still have the opportunity to be part of this journey. If you’re still wondering what Blooming Together means, we invite you to zoom in on the image and read what Mary Jones, our Director of Client and Care Engagement, shared with us. We particularly loved when she said, “We do more than grow side by side; we brighten people’s days, soften difficult moments… One million flowers can change the world.”

You can help change the world with your support TODAY! Every donation counts.

On May 14th we welcomed Duke University’s Re-Imagining Medicine students to El Futuro for conversations about culture, community, storytelling, and what it truly means to humanize health care. 💚

Through personal stories, shared experiences, and a tour of our Durham clinic and Therapeutic Green Space, students explored how culturally responsive care is built with communities — not just for them.

We believe the future of health care depends on providers who understand trust, belonging, and the lived experiences of the people they serve. Grateful to be part of shaping that future together. Duke University
