A new advanced treatment option is now available for dialysis patients under Durham Nephrology's care. South Durham and West Pettigrew dialysis units now include hemodiafiltration (HDF), a step forward in how toxins are filtered from the blood during treatment.

HDF combines standard hemodialysis with an added filtration process. In addition to removing waste through diffusion like traditional dialysis, HDF uses pressure to push blood through the dialyzer, clearing more middle-sized toxins and excess fluid, a process called convection.

Patients receiving HDF may experience benefits over time, including reduced inflammation, fewer muscle cramps, improved blood pressure control, and better long-term heart health.

Durham Nephrology Associates is now partnering with Granville Health System to provide inpatient dialysis services on-site in Oxford.

This means many patients can now receive dialysis without a transfer to another facility during a hospital stay. Patients with more complex needs may still require care at a higher-level facility, but this new service keeps treatment closer to home for many in our community.

Our physicians have provided kidney care in Granville County for more than four decades. We're glad to be part of this expansion alongside the team at Granville Medical Center.
