Friday Thoughts | Rewrite Minute

This is just something I wanted to talk about today because I see it so much, and honestly, I think we’ve lost a little bit of something along the way.

When someone smiles at you and says hi or good morning, what happened to simply acknowledging them back?

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said hi to someone and they just stare at me. No smile. No hi. Nothing.

Sometimes you almost walk away thinking, well, that was awkward. Should I just start giving everyone the blank stare back?

But then you run into that one person who genuinely looks at you, smiles and says, “Good morning,” and you FEEL the difference.

Because words have energy.

A smile has energy.

Kindness has energy.

And the way we make another person feel, even in a two-second interaction, truly does matter.

I had this happen on the trail one day, and I still remember it.

A big group of cross-country kids came through and pretty much took over the trail. Most were caught up in their friends, themselves, or even their phones as they ran or walked by.

But there was one boy right in the middle of that crowd who stood out.

He actually made a point to catch my eye. He looked right at me, smiled and said hello. And he made sure I saw him and knew he was acknowledging me.

That’s what stuck with me.

He wasn’t off by himself. He was right there in the middle of all the other kids, but he was still aware enough to notice another person sharing the trail with them.

And I remember thinking, somebody taught that kid that.

So honestly, congratulations to his parents. You’re raising a kid who knows how to look outside of himself, acknowledge another person and show kindness even when everyone around him is doing something else.

That’s something to be proud of.

People are stressed. We’re distracted. We’re in our own heads. We’re looking at our phones. We’re rushing from one thing to the next.

But we can still look up.

We can still smile.

We can still say good morning.

We can still acknowledge another human being.

I’m not saying we need to talk to every stranger we see. Of course we need awareness, boundaries and common sense.

But being safe doesn’t mean we have to stop being kind or connected.

And I think that’s something worth modeling for our kids too.

Think about the energy you put out into the world with your words.

Think about how it feels when someone genuinely smiles at you and says good morning.

And think about how something that took them two seconds can actually shift the way you feel in that moment.

Kindness is free. A smile is free. A kind word is free. But the energy behind those things can be incredibly powerful.

That boy probably has absolutely no idea that I still remember that moment.

But I do.

And I think that says a lot.

Happy Friday. Go be the reason someone smiles today.❤️

Sometimes you’ve moved on, but you’re still carrying it.

Stress, grief, fear, anger, rejection, heartbreak, loss; experiences can affect us long after they’ve happened.

Emotion Code has been a powerful piece of my own healing, and that’s why I feel so strongly about this work.

Lately, I’ve had adults reach out after sessions and tell me how much lighter and more peaceful they feel.

I’ve also had parents reach out after I’ve done sessions with their children and tell me about the changes they’re noticing. I especially love being able to work with kids. They carry emotional things too, and being able to address some of that while they’re young, instead of continuing to carry it as they grow, can be so valuable.

Emotion Code is one of the services I offer through Rewrite Your Story, and sessions are done completely remotely.

If you’re curious about Emotion Code and want to know more, let’s chat.

REWRITE MINUTE:

Your thoughts really do matter.

I’ve had several conversations lately that have really made me think about this.

I’ve talked with people who have spent so much time worrying about a diagnosis, fearing what might be wrong with their body, or anticipating the worst that even when they receive GOOD news, they sometimes have a hard time letting themselves believe it.

Instead of relief, another worry can creep in.

What if they missed something?
What if something else is wrong?
Why am I still having symptoms?
Why don’t I feel as relieved as I think I should?

Sometimes there can even be guilt around how you think you’re supposed to feel.

And it reminded me:

Your thoughts really do matter.

When you’ve spent an amount of time expecting something to be wrong, you don’t necessarily flip a switch the moment someone tells you everything is okay.

That’s why awareness is so important.

I see this with health all the time. We feel something in our body and immediately fear the worst. We watch it, analyze it, worry about it, and sometimes allow it to consume our thoughts.

But there’s a difference between being aware of your body and being afraid of your body.

I always tell my clients: listen to the whisper before your body has to scream.

Pay attention to symptoms. Notice patterns. Ask what your body may be trying to communicate and what might need to change.

But don’t forget something incredibly important:

Your body has survived life right alongside you.

Think about everything it has carried you through…stress, heartbreak, sleepless nights, illness, loss, difficult seasons, and probably plenty of times when taking care of yourself wasn’t your first priority.

And it’s still here, working for you every single day.

So listen to your body, but also thank your body.

Thank it for its resilience.
Thank it for everything it’s doing right.
Give it nourishment, rest, movement, compassion, and love.

You can acknowledge what’s happening in your body without allowing it to become your identity.

You are bigger than a symptom.

You are bigger than a diagnosis.

You are bigger than a toxin, pathogen, or whatever else may be showing up.

And this isn’t only about health.

We can dwell on hurt, anger, resentment and everything that could go wrong—or we can intentionally put more of our attention toward love, gratitude, compassion, appreciation and faith.

You don’t have to ignore difficult things or pretend they don’t exist.

Just don’t build a home in them.

Listen to the whispers.

Become aware.

Make changes when changes are needed.

Get support when you need it.

But never become so focused on what’s wrong; or what might be wrong; that you forget everything that’s still right.

And if you’ve spent a long time living in fear, maybe your next step isn’t finding one more thing to worry about.

Maybe it’s learning to trust your body again.

You’ve survived a lot together. Give it a little gratitude for it.

And if you need some help figuring out what your body may be trying to tell you, let’s chat. I have programs and services that can help.

REWRITE MINUTE: This one is especially for my IOWA friends and followers.

I know I’ve talked about pesticides and agricultural chemicals before, but I want to take this Rewrite Minute to really stress the importance of protecting ourselves from the exposures around us.

Living in Iowa, we are surrounded by agriculture. Pesticides—including herbicides like glyphosate and atrazine—are routinely used in agriculture all around us.

And here’s why I think we need to pay attention.

Iowa currently has the SECOND-HIGHEST age-adjusted cancer incidence rate in the United States—and we are one of only TWO states where that rate has been increasing.

The 2026 Iowa Cancer Registry estimates 21,700 Iowans will be diagnosed with cancer this year.

While cancer incidence has been declining in much of the country, Iowa continues to move in the opposite direction. That should get our attention.

Now, I’m not saying pesticides or agricultural chemicals are responsible for all of Iowa’s cancers. There are many factors involved. But when we live in a state with this level of agricultural exposure AND our cancer incidence continues to rise, I think we need to pay attention.

This isn’t about fear.

It’s about awareness and protecting ourselves.

Most of us were never taught to think about what we’re exposed to through the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, what’s being sprayed around us or what we bring into our homes.

We can’t control everything. But we CAN control some things.

Filter your water.

Choose organic when you can.

Wash your produce.

Take your shoes off at the door.

Reduce unnecessary chemicals and fragrances in your home.

And support your liver, lymphatic system, gut and natural elimination pathways.

Ask yourself:

What am I doing to reduce my exposure; and what am I doing to support my body’s ability to handle what I can’t avoid?

If your answer is “I’m really not sure,” reach out. I have testing options, products and protocols that can help you become more proactive about reducing your overall toxic burden and supporting your body’s natural detoxification pathways.

We may not be able to eliminate every exposure living in Iowa.

But we CAN become more aware. And we CAN do more to protect ourselves and our families.

REWRITE MINUTE | CLIENT TESTIMONIAL

I recently had a client send me this testimonial, and I have to say, it meant so much to me.

“After our first meeting, I walked out feeling something I hadn’t felt in a while—HOPE! That alone meant so much to me.

Since then, after a few rounds of supplements, I’ve noticed a real difference and am feeling good overall.

I am grateful for the progress I’ve made so far and fully plan to continue working with her beyond this first program. I recommend her to everyone. The investment is so worth it because I too am worthy of investment.”

I love seeing my clients begin to feel better, make progress, and get back to living their lives. That is always the goal.

But I especially love those last words: “I too am worthy of investment.”

We invest in so many things throughout our lives, yet our own health can easily get pushed to the bottom of the list.

Choosing to invest in your health is choosing to invest in yourself…and you are worth that investment. ❤️

I love this reminder.

We are constantly changing, growing, learning, and becoming.

And at any point, we can decide that something no longer fits and choose a different direction.

You are allowed to shift. You are allowed to begin again.

And as I tell my clients…”it’s never too late to rewrite your story.”✨❤️

What if the reason you can’t slow down… is because your nervous system doesn’t know HOW?

Always doing.
Always thinking.
Always multitasking.
Always anticipating what needs to happen next.

I didn’t realize how different it could feel until I started experiencing the opposite.

CALM. Present. Focused.

Realizing something can wait — and actually being okay with that.

And the crazy part? I’m actually getting MORE done. My work feels more focused and efficient, I’m sleeping better, and I’m able to process emotions more clearly.

This is why I’m so excited to introduce a new product line I’m beginning to carry and recommend: Somatica Formulas.

If you’ve followed me for a while, you know how much I talk about the vagus nerve, gut-brain connection and nervous system regulation. I already have products I love for vagus nerve support.

But Somatica Formulas takes this work deeper.

It brings together the nervous system + physical body + emotional healing.

Because we can support the vagus nerve, work on the gut and practice breathing — but what about the deeper patterns continually telling the nervous system it needs to stay on guard?

People pleasing. Over-functioning. Hypervigilance. Chronic caretaking. Difficulty setting boundaries. Feeling responsible for everyone. Always needing to be productive.

This is where REGULATE comes in.

And one of the best parts? It’s for children AND adults.

Somatica Formulas recommends starting with Regulate for everyone before moving into their more targeted formulas.

Regulate combines herbs, essential oils, flower essences and energetic/frequency support to approach regulation from multiple directions — including those underlying emotional patterns.

Another reason I was drawn to Somatica Formulas is the people behind these formulas. Their work combines professional knowledge with their own healing experiences and years of helping others through the healing process.

That combination really matters to me.

And personally, I feel the difference.

I’m intentionally moving away from multitasking and learning to be present with what I’m doing. I’m more focused, sleeping better and getting more accomplished without that constant feeling that everything needs my attention RIGHT NOW.

Things can wait.

But here’s what I think is even bigger:

A more regulated nervous system can help take everything else you’re already doing for your health to the next level.

We can have the best supplements, detox protocols, gut support, nutrition and healing practices — but when the body is constantly operating in fight-or-flight, its priority is protection.

The parasympathetic state is our rest, digest and repair state — the state that supports digestion, recovery and restoration.

That’s why nervous system regulation isn’t just another piece of the wellness puzzle.

It’s foundational.

With the amount of stress, stimulation, environmental exposures and emotional load our bodies are navigating today, I believe this work is more important than ever.

Kids. Adults. Start with REGULATE. Then build from there.

I truly feel like Somatica Formulas is going to be a game changer, and I can’t wait to share more about the other formulas.

I’ll put my link + discount in the comments for anyone who wants to start with Regulate or wants to read more about the formulas.

REWRITE MINUTE | TUESDAY TAKEAWAY

WHY DO SOME PEOPLE REACT SO STRONGLY TO FRAGRANCES?

I am one of those people.

Perfume. Cologne. Scented laundry products. Candles. Cleaning products.

Sometimes I react before anyone around me even notices—headache, nausea, sinus symptoms, brain fog, or just feeling awful.

And it isn’t simply, “I don’t like that smell.”

Chemical sensitivity can have several layers.

Mast cells can release histamine and other inflammatory chemicals that can make you feel miserable.

Genetics and epigenetics may influence how efficiently your body handles certain chemicals and environmental exposures.

And then there’s a HUGE piece I continue working on myself—the nervous system. After repeated stressors and exposures, our system can become sensitized and that alarm can go off much more quickly.

This helped me understand why, even after YEARS of lowering my toxic burden and supporting detoxification, I can still react.

Lowering the burden doesn’t necessarily reset the alarm system.

And in a way, I consider myself lucky.

My body gives me clear, immediate feedback when something doesn’t agree with me. I’ve learned to recognize those signals and pay attention.

But not everyone gets those obvious warnings.

For some, the effects can be much more subtle—fatigue, headaches, brain fog, or even changes in hormone balance that may be harder to connect to repeated everyday exposures.

Certain chemicals in fragrances, personal-care, and cleaning products have been studied for their potential to interfere with hormone (endocrine) signaling and nervous-system function.

That’s why becoming aware of your body is so important.

Symptoms are communication. The question is—are we paying attention?

And if someone tells you a perfume, cologne, cleaning product, candle, laundry product, or another fragrance is making them feel sick…

BELIEVE THEM—and don’t take it personally.

They aren’t being picky. Their body may genuinely be having a physical response that you can’t see.

I know because I live it.

Do certain fragrances or chemical smells affect you too?

Drop a comment below. I’d love to know how many of us experience this.
