Volunteer Spotlight đź’™

Meet Mark Nelson, a dedicated Talbot Hospice volunteer who began serving in 2019 after retiring and looking for a meaningful way to give back to his community. What started as a desire to help others quickly became a rewarding and fulfilling part of his life.

Many of our patients, families, and visitors may recognize Mark from the Hospice House greeter's desk, where he offers a warm welcome to all who enter. He also generously shares his talents as a photographer, capturing special moments at Kids Camp, provides patient visits and respite care, and serves as an end-of-life doula.

When asked for a fun fact, Mark shared that he and his family lived in England for four years!

Thank you, Mark, for the compassion, kindness, and countless ways you support our mission and the families we serve. We are grateful to have you as part of the Talbot Hospice family. đź’™

In celebration of International Yoga Day on June 21st, we invite you to join us on Tuesday, June 23rd for a gentle chair yoga session.

Yoga for grief uses breathwork, gentle movements, and mindfulness to process loss, offering a physical and emotional outlet for stress and sadness by releasing trapped feelings, creating stability, and fostering self-compassion through restorative poses often ending with gratitude and heart-centered practices. It helps reconnect the mind, body, and spirit, transforming pain into wisdom through non-judgmental acceptance and creating comforting rituals.

How Yoga Helps with Grief:

🌟Calms the Nervous System: Deep breathing (Pranayama) reduces anxiety and overwhelm.

🌿Releases Physical Tension: Gentle poses help soften muscles where emotional weight is stored.

❤️Provides a Safe Space: Mindfulness and stillness allow for non-judgmental presence with emotions.

🤝Creates Ritual: Daily practice offers stability and routine in uncertain times.

Healing through Yoga sessions are held at Talbot Hospice every Tuesday at 8:45am and are hosted by Beth Hobson.

If you have questions about our support groups, please contact our Grief Support office at 410-822-6681 ext. 117 for more details.

Employee Spotlight đź’™

Meet Ann Thrift, Home Hospice Aide, who joined the Talbot Hospice team one year ago after experiencing the compassionate care hospice provided for her own father. Inspired by the support and advocacy her family received during such an important time, Ann felt called to become part of that same caring team.

Ann shares that the most rewarding part of her role is bringing comfort to patients through even the smallest moments of care and connection. She also loves sharing laughs with patients while watching Let’s Make a Deal, believing that joy and laughter can brighten the day for everyone involved.

Thank you, Ann, for the compassion, comfort, and kindness you bring to our patients and families each day. đź’™

This week, June 11–17, we proudly celebrate CNA Week and recognize the extraordinary Certified Nursing Assistants who bring comfort, compassion, and dignity to every moment of care.

Our CNAs are often the gentle hands holding a patient’s hand, the familiar face that brings reassurance, and the quiet presence that makes difficult days feel a little lighter. They provide so much more than physical care. They offer kindness, patience, companionship, and unwavering support to both patients and families during some of life’s most meaningful moments.

Whether helping someone feel comfortable, sharing a conversation that brings a smile, or simply being there when it matters most, our CNAs make an incredible difference every single day. Their compassion shines through in countless ways, and the impact they have on the lives they touch is immeasurable.

To each of our dedicated CNAs, thank you for the heart you bring to this work and for the comfort and dignity you provide to those we serve. Your care leaves a lasting impression on our patients, families, and entire hospice community. We are deeply grateful for all that you do đź’™
