New colon cancer screening guidelines are putting a stronger focus on options that meet people where they are, from at-home tests to a newly approved blood test.

While colonoscopies remain the most effective, the goal is simple: get more people screened. ✅

Dr. Doug Flora emphasizes that screening goes beyond early detection:
“This is not just a screenable disease; it’s actually preventable. If you follow these guidelines and complete these screenings, you can find cancer early, treat it, cure it and move on.”

With colorectal cancer now impacting younger adults more than ever, starting screening at age 45 is critical.

From the frontlines of COVID care to 5-star recognition. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

During the pandemic, St. Elizabeth Ft. Thomas served as our COVID hub, where teams navigated constant uncertainty, adapted quickly and supported one another while providing constant, compassionate care for their patients.

Hear from nurses Brittney and Cassidy, who served on the frontlines during the pandemic:

“Since families couldn’t be there, we became everything for our patients… it was a much more personal kind of care, and they really trusted us,” Brittney shared.

For Cassidy, who entered healthcare during the pandemic, that experience shaped the caregiver she is today. “My experience during the pandemic led me to become a strong advocate for patient-centered, holistic care,” Cassidy said.

Today, we’re proud to share that St. Elizabeth Edgewood, Dearborn and Ft. Thomas hospitals have earned a CMS 5-star rating - the highest honor - placing them among the top 12% of hospitals in the country for quality, safety and patient experience.

“It represents trust from patients that they will receive excellent, compassionate care… and a responsibility to maintain that level every day,” Brittney added.

From challenge to recognition, this moment belongs to every caregiver who showed up then and continues to lead with compassion now. 💙
