Two truths and a lie β€” pool safety edition! 🏊 Can you spot the fake?

1️⃣ Floaties are a safe substitute for life jackets.
2️⃣ Drowning is often silent and can happen very quickly.
3️⃣ A fence with a self-latching gate helps prevent unsupervised pool access.

πŸ‘‡ Drop your answer below before you scroll!
. .

The lie is #1! Floaties are NOT a substitute for a properly fitted, Coast Guard-approved life jacket. Drowning can happen silently and in seconds, which is why active adult supervision is non-negotiable. Fenced pools with self-latching gates, swim lessons, and proper life jackets all work together to keep kids safer in the water.

Questions about swim readiness or water safety for your child's age? We're happy to help! πŸ’š

El Paso summers are no joke β˜€οΈ and keeping the whole family safe in the heat takes a little planning!

A few reminders from your Desert Bloom team:
βœ… Drink water throughout the day β€” don't wait until you're thirsty!
βœ… Dress kids in lightweight, light-colored clothing
βœ… Take shade or AC breaks during peak heat hours
βœ… Never leave children (or pets!) in a parked car

Watch for signs of heat illness: dizziness, headache, nausea, unusual fatigue, or muscle cramps. Confusion, fainting, or vomiting? That's a 911 moment. πŸš‘

Stay cool out there, Desert Bloom families! Have questions about heat safety for your child? Give us a call. πŸ’š

Here's something that surprises many new parents: most babies don't need a bath every day! πŸ›

In fact, bathing too frequently can actually dry out your baby's sensitive skin. For most infants, a few times a week is plenty, especially in those early months before they're really getting into messes!

Between baths, a gentle wipe-down of the face, hands, neck folds, and diaper area is all you need. When you do bathe baby, use warm water, a fragrance-free cleanser, and moisturize after. Noticing persistent redness, cracking, or a rash that won't clear up? That's a great reason to call us! πŸ’š

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who gave everything in service to our country. We are deeply grateful to all military families who carry this legacy.

As the long weekend kicks off summer fun, remember to keep the little ones safe:
β˜€οΈ Apply (and reapply!) sunscreen
πŸ’§ Stay hydrated

😴 Is your teen exhausted all the time? It could be mono.

Mononucleosis (mono) is super common in teens. It's caused by the Epstein-Barr virus and spread through saliva (yep, that's why it's called the "kissing disease" πŸ˜…).

Symptoms to watch for:
β€’ Significant fatigue (more than usual!)
β€’ Sore throat
β€’ Swollen lymph nodes
β€’ Fever
β€’ Occasionally an enlarged spleen

Many teens stay exhausted for WEEKS, even after other symptoms improve. And here's the important part β€” because mono can affect the spleen, contact sports and heavy activity must be avoided until a provider clears them. πŸ…β›”

Treatment focuses on rest, hydration, and symptom relief, but we need to evaluate first! πŸ“² Reach out to Desert Bloom Pediatrics if your teen has prolonged fatigue or these symptoms. We'll guide you on next steps and a safe return to activities. 🌡

πŸ€• Does your child complain of headaches often?

Headaches are actually pretty common in school-age kids and are usually related to:
πŸ’§ Dehydration
🍽️ Skipped meals
😴 Poor sleep
πŸ“± Too much screen time
😰 Stress

Many headaches improve with rest, hydration, and regular routines. BUT there are red flags to watch for:
🚨 Headaches that wake your child from sleep
🚨 Morning headaches with vomiting
🚨 Headaches that are getting progressively worse
🚨 Vision changes, dizziness, weakness, or behavior changes

If you're seeing any of these signs, or if headaches are becoming frequent, it's time to have them evaluated. πŸ“² Call or message us through the portal to schedule! 🌡

🍼 Could your baby have a milk protein allergy?

Milk protein allergy (CMPA) happens when a baby's immune system reacts to proteins in cow's milk, and it can affect both formula fed AND breastfed babies.

πŸ” Signs to watch for:
β€’ Blood or mucus in the stool
β€’ Frequent vomiting or reflux-like symptoms
β€’ Significant fussiness after feeds
β€’ Diarrhea
β€’ Poor weight gain

Symptoms can be subtle and develop over time, so trust your gut if something feels off!

⚠️ Please don't switch formulas or change your diet without talking to us first β€” we want to make sure your baby stays properly nourished while we work through it together!

πŸ“² Reach out to Desert Bloom Pediatrics if you have concerns. We're here for you! 🌡
