Water tables, splash pads, kiddie pools β€” summer toddler fun at its best! πŸ’¦

But a few reminders to keep it safe:
πŸ‘€ Stay within arm's reach during ALL water play β€” even a few inches of water poses a risk for toddlers
πŸͺ£ Empty water tables and buckets immediately after use
🏊 Floaties and puddle jumpers do NOT replace adult supervision
⚠️ At splash pads, watch for slippery surfaces and crowded spaces where little ones can wander quickly

Active, attentive supervision is always the #1 layer of protection. Have questions about water safety for your toddler? Our staff is here to help! πŸ’š

Did you know? The U.S. has seen over 1,900 measles cases in 2026 β€” most linked to unvaccinated individuals. πŸ˜”

Measles is highly contagious and can lead to serious complications including pneumonia and brain inflammation. Before widespread vaccination, it was a leading cause of childhood illness and death.

The good news: the measles vaccine is safe, effective, and one of the most powerful tools we have to protect our community. Not sure if your child is up to date? We make it easy to check. Give us a call or schedule a visit β€” protecting kids is what we do. πŸ’šπŸ’ͺ

Summer break + late nights = a sleep schedule that sneaks away from us all. 😴 Sound familiar?

A few tips from your Desert Bloom team to help kids stay rested:
πŸŒ… Keep a consistent wake time, even on weekends!
πŸ“΅ Start a screen-free wind-down routine 30–60 min before bed
β˜€οΈ Get natural light in the morning; limit bright lights at night
πŸ“† As school approaches, shift bedtimes gradually β€” a few minutes earlier each night over a couple of weeks!

Struggling with sleep routines? We're here for that conversation too! πŸ’š

Summer snack time doesn't have to be complicated! πŸ‰ Here are a few easy, kid-approved ideas that keep little ones fueled and hydrated all day long:

🍎 Apple slices + peanut butter
🫐 Yogurt with berries
πŸ₯’ Cucumber + hummus
πŸ‡ Frozen grapes
πŸ§ƒ Homemade fruit popsicles

Bonus: foods with high water content (think watermelon, cucumbers, and berries) double as hydration in our hot desert summers!

What's your family's go-to summer snack? Drop it in the comments β€” we love hearing from our Desert Bloom families! πŸ‘‡πŸ’š

Two truths and a lie β€” pool safety edition! 🏊 Can you spot the fake?

1️⃣ Floaties are a safe substitute for life jackets.
2️⃣ Drowning is often silent and can happen very quickly.
3️⃣ A fence with a self-latching gate helps prevent unsupervised pool access.

πŸ‘‡ Drop your answer below before you scroll!
. .

The lie is #1! Floaties are NOT a substitute for a properly fitted, Coast Guard-approved life jacket. Drowning can happen silently and in seconds, which is why active adult supervision is non-negotiable. Fenced pools with self-latching gates, swim lessons, and proper life jackets all work together to keep kids safer in the water.

El Paso summers are no joke β˜€οΈ and keeping the whole family safe in the heat takes a little planning!

A few reminders from your Desert Bloom team:
βœ… Drink water throughout the day β€” don't wait until you're thirsty!
βœ… Dress kids in lightweight, light-colored clothing
βœ… Take shade or AC breaks during peak heat hours
βœ… Never leave children (or pets!) in a parked car

Watch for signs of heat illness: dizziness, headache, nausea, unusual fatigue, or muscle cramps. Confusion, fainting, or vomiting? That's a 911 moment. πŸš‘

Stay cool out there, Desert Bloom families! Have questions about heat safety for your child? Give us a call. πŸ’š

June is Pride Month β€” a time to celebrate inclusion, dignity, and the importance of every child feeling seen and safe. 🌈

Families can support LGBTQ+ kids and teens in meaningful ways: reading inclusive books together, attending local events, using welcoming language, and keeping the lines of communication open at home.

When children feel accepted for who they are, they thrive. At Desert Bloom Pediatrics, we're here to support your whole family β€” including your child's emotional well-being, development, and mental health β€” with compassionate, judgment-free care.

Questions about your child's health or well-being? We're always just a call away. πŸ’š

Here's something that surprises many new parents: most babies don't need a bath every day! πŸ›

In fact, bathing too frequently can actually dry out your baby's sensitive skin. For most infants, a few times a week is plenty, especially in those early months before they're really getting into messes!

Between baths, a gentle wipe-down of the face, hands, neck folds, and diaper area is all you need. When you do bathe baby, use warm water, a fragrance-free cleanser, and moisturize after. Noticing persistent redness, cracking, or a rash that won't clear up? That's a great reason to call us! πŸ’š
