Corace E. Bunker
Ellworth

Corace E. Bunker, 91, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026, at Seal Cove Assisted Living Facility with her family by her side.

Born on May 5, 1935, in Mariaville, Maine, Corace was the daughter of Elwood J. and Flora E. (Edgecomb) Frost.

Corace met and married the love of her life, Sterling Bunker, in 1954. Together they built a life centered around their family and friends. They settled in Ellsworth where they raised their three children. In October, they celebrated 71 years of marriage, a testament to their enduring love and devotion.

Corace was employed by Union Trust Bank for 24 years, where she was known for her dedication and strong work ethic as well as her ability make the work place fun. Outside of work, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She spent summers at Beech Hill Pond hosting her children, grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She loved snowmobiling in the winter and hosting card games and playing dominos with friends and family. On quiet days she loved doing any type of word puzzle and jigsaw puzzles with her husband.

She is survived by her loving husband Sterling Bunker; her daughter, Virginia Drouin, and Virginia's children, Nicholas and Katie; her son, Michael Bunker, his wife, Paula, and his son, Casey; her daughter, Janet Stratton, her husband, Barry, and their children, Rory, Cody, and Kelsey. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Sutton, Palmer, and Summer, children of Katie; Margot and Winnie, children of Casey; and Catesby, Wylder, and Willoughby, children of Rory.

Corace had a strong bond with many of her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She loved them like her own children and opened her home to them on many occasions.

She will be missed by many but never forgotten.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Lygonia Masonic Lodge #40 A.F. & A.M., 21 Carriage Way, Ellsworth, Maine.

BEVERLY J (HOGLUND) JENKINS
January 3, 1942 – May 19, 2026

ELLSWORTH – Beverly J (Hoglund) Jenkins, 84, passed away unexpectedly on May 19, 2026, after a brief hospital stay.

Beverly was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, by her parents, Edwin and Laverna Schuldt. In 1968, she and her late husband, Russell Hoglund, moved to Maine to raise their family. Beverly dedicated over 30 years to the laboratory at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital and was also affectionately known by many as the “Mary Kay Lady.”

Family was everything to her, and she loved her grandchildren "to the moon and back." She was stubborn and headstrong, but always in the best possible way. With her, there was never any guessing; if she had something to say, she said it. But underneath that fierce honesty was a heart of gold. Whether you needed a pep talk, a bit of encouragement, or just someone to listen, she was always there. She will be incredibly missed by everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Perreault, and husband Steve; grandson, Jonathon Sargent, and partner Breighane; and brother, Eugene Schuldt. She is also survived by her foster sister, Elaine Peterson, as well as her nieces and nephews: Mindy (Don) Webb, Julie Holmgren, Victoria (Brent) Lahr, Cory (Nikki) Schultz, Terry (Mary) Peterson, Cindy (Douglas) Gunville, and Sandy (Jason) Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Laverna Schuldt; her husband, Russell Hoglund; her son, Todd Hoglund; her granddaughter, Megan Sargent; and her foster sister, Mary Ann Schultz.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Beverly's life from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on June 27, 2026, at Jordan Fernald, 113 Franklin Street, Ellsworth.

Ellsworth

Grayson Mote, 20, passed away far too soon following a tragic accident on May 15, 2026, leaving behind a family, a circle of friends, and a community who loved him deeply. Though his time here was brief, Grayson filled every room with laughter, light, and a spirit that touched so many lives.

Grayson loved spending time with his family and friends more than anything. He was caring, funny, adventurous, and the kind of person who made people feel welcome and valued. His smile, energy, and upbeat personality left lasting impressions on everyone lucky enough to know him.

He had a passion for wrestling and climbing and recently discovered a love for snowboarding and cooking. He spent many hours at Volta Climbing Gym, hiking the peaks of Acadia National Park, and snowboarding at Sugarloaf Mountain. Whatever Grayson pursued, he always strived to excel in the skills he was passionate about.

This past winter, Grayson spent his time at Sugarloaf working at The Rack restaurant, where he found not only happiness but a new dream. He had decided he wanted to pursue a career in cooking, excited about the future and the path ahead of him.

Grayson was deeply loved by his parents, Kelvin and Tammy Mote; his brothers, Evan Van Dorn, Eric Mote, and Gavin Mote; and his sister, Elizabeth Mote. He was also cherished by countless extended family members and friends who became family through the love and loyalty he gave so freely.

Though our hearts are shattered by this loss, we will forever carry Grayson’s memory with us — in every laugh, every story shared, every mountain trail, every snowfall, and every meal made with love. He was truly a light in this world, and that light will never be forgotten.

A memorial service celebrating Grayson’s life will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Ellsworth High School.

Bar Harbor

Lucille E. Albee, 85, died peacefully on April 27, 2026, in Ellsworth. She was born July 29, 1940, in Ellsworth, the daughter of Andrew and Margaret (Brown) Steele.

Lucille spent her early years in Ellsworth, around the age of 7 she was adopted by a distant family member, Mary Morse. When she passed away a few years later Lucille lived with other family members until her early teens, moved for the last time to Bass harbor and graduated from Pemetic in 1958.During her time in Bass Harbor she became good friends with Pauline met her brother Lawrence E Albee and were married in 1959 and had three children.

Lucille worked from 1971-2000 for the U.S. Postal Service in Salisbury Cove and Bar Harbor. She and Lawrence loved to travel while the kids were young and even after they grew up. They enjoyed going on camping trips to various places in Maine and the U.S. A few years before retirement they bought a 28ft tag along and became seasonals Whispering Pines and later Balsam Cove on Toddy Pond in Orland. Visits by grandchildren and seeing friends in their camping community were highlights of the season.

Lucille and Lawerance moved into their house in Salisbury Cove in 1964 to raise their family. She was proud to have lived in her house for more than 60 years and to call all of her neighbors friends. She looked forward to talking to the summer visitors staying at the cottages nearby and telling them her story. She cherished the visits with her sister Joyce in Florida each winter after Lawerance passed. They had a great time going to local country music performances with their group of friends.

Lucille met her friend of 65 years, Tina Gott, at the Bar Harbor Hospital when they were both delivering children the same day. They remained friends sharing all the new additions, milestones and losses throughout. They spoke every day, right to the end. Another very close friend was Lee Gray, a neighbor and when Lawrence passed away told Lucille she would check in on her every day from then on. She did that right to the end. She was a constant support and a valued friend.

She is survived by two sons; Larry Albee and wife Patty Pinkham of Seal Cove, Brian Albee and partner, Sherryl Fields of Trenton; four grandchildren; Emma Albee of Seal Cove, Sarah Albee of Concord, N.H., Austin Albee of Ellsworth and Croix Albee and wife Natasha of Hancock; sister Jeannie Taylor and husband Timmy of Northeast Harbor, sister-in-law Pam Steele of Brooklin and many nieces and nephews. Lucille was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years in 2014, a daughter Judith Lynne in 1979 in a car accident, her sister Joyce Spurling and brother Jimmy Steele.

A celebration of Lucille’s life will be held at 1pm, May 9, 2026, at Eden Baptist Church, 155 Old Bar Harbor Rd, Bar Harbor.

Bar Harbor-

Barry L. Gutradt, 84, died peacefully the early morning of April 17, 2026, at Mt. Desert Island Hospital, Bar Harbor. He was born, March 23, 1942, in New York, the son of Harry and Ruth I. (Freedman) Gutradt.

Barry, also known as (Walter Churchill), was well known for his outstanding photography around the MDI community. Both high school and youth sports and whales, birds and life on the Gulf of Maine (Bar Harbor Whale Watch) were his passion.

Originally from Manhattan, NY, Barry graduated from Ohio University. He worked as a computer programmer, system designer and implemented hospital wide systems. In the mid-to-late eighties he arrived at MDI to visit his sister Gail. He worked at Mt. Desert Island Hospital as well as Maine State Sea Kayak for Robert Shaw.

Barry lived a full life enjoying sky diving, scuba diving, sailing, and other outdoor activities. Whatever interests he pursued it was to the max. He was a humble man who did not tell you how accomplished he was, he simply showed you. He was very discriminating but once satisfied, deeply loyal. He researched everything intently from his cameras to his cars to his tattoos. Yes, his tattoo’s. He found a particular tattoo artist and would return to him/her for each addition, driving as far as Florida for this incredibly special relationship.

He was a rugged individual and a man of strong opinion, but always honest and dependable. You knew where you stood with Barry. No BS, no drama. He left a wonderful gift of photographs and peak memories for so many families. His giving will continue long after his passing through his scholarship program at MDI High School. He will be missed and long remembered.

Barry had two children: Kelly Jo and Michael G. Gutradt.

To honor Barry’s legacy there will be a service at sea on board The Whale Watch this summer. Date and time TBA.

Bar Harbor

Eleanor Raynes, 104, lifelong resident of Bar Harbor, passed away at her home Wednesday, April 15th, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. Eleanor was born on October 8, 1921 to William Melville Hamor and Betsey (Higgins) Hamor, later Peach. She was raised by Betsey and her beloved stepfather, Malcolm Peach. She graduated from Bar Harbor High School in 1939.

In 1942 she married Robert Raynes, who was in Bar Harbor working with the Civilian Conservation Corps. They fell in love after they met at a basketball game at the YMCA. They had a wonderful life raising their 2 daughters Patricia and Catherine and were married for 51 years before his death in 1993. Over the years she worked as a telephone operator, a clerk at Ward’s Clothing Store in Bar Harbor, and a room supervisor at the Jackson Laboratory.

She was a lifelong member of St. Saviour’s Episcopal Church. She loved the many hours she spent volunteering throughout the community, including at St. Saviour’s Episcopal Church, Maine Seacoast Mission, Island Connections, the MDI Hospital Auxiliary, the Bar Harbor Historical Society, and the MDI YWCA. With her circle of close friends, she was an avid basketball fan of the MDI Trojans, traveling all over the state to cheer them on.

She loved the time she spent at her beloved camp on Little Webb Pond, enjoying the company of family and friends and the Little Webb Community. People loved hearing her stories about what it was like growing up in Bar Harbor 104 years ago. In 2018 she was awarded the Boston Cane, presented by the Bar Harbor Historical Society, for being the oldest Bar Harbor native.

Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Cathy Walton and her husband Brent of Bar Harbor; her grandchildren Jenifer Jackson (Denny) Trevett of South Burlington, VT, Nicholas (Julie) Walton, and Kristin Walton (Patrick) Murphy of Bar Harbor; great grandchildren Morgan and Kyle Trevett, Erin and MacKenzie Murphy; and great great grandson, Anthony Lyttleton, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, daughter, Patricia Jackson, son-in-law, Edward Jackson, brothers, Lyle, Herbert, and Richard Hamor, and Arden Peach.

Her family would like to thank the phenomenal caring staff of Beacon Hospice who have provided excellent care and support for the last 18 months.

Franklin

Mark Gaetano Sarro, 72, died March 23, 2026, at his residence in Franklin. He built his home with the help of his father, something he was very proud of and a place he truly loved to be. He was born June 30, 1953, in Fall River, Massachusetts, the son of Mark and Rita Sarro.

Mark owned and operated Sarro’s Floor Covering in Franklin for many years, a trade he learned from his father. He took great pride in his work and was known for his dedication to his craft. There wasn’t a room he entered that was safe from his inspection and report of the flooring work.
In his free time, he enjoyed working outdoors and spending as much time as possible near the ocean. He was never far from a beach. He was an avid reader, often sharing books with his friends and family. His favorite was “Where the crawdads sing” by Delia Owens.

Mark’s greatest joy came from his children: Morgan Erbes and her husband, Jack, of Stuart, Florida; Christopher Sarro of Ellsworth; Nicholas Sarro and his partner, Kelley, of Tucson, Arizona; and Mary Morse and her husband, John, of Ellsworth. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Cainen, Griffin, Ryder, Natalie, and Zoey. He was so proud to be “bruddah” to his four sisters: Anne Sasso and her husband, Joe, Loretta Sevas and her husband, Don, Rita Sarro and her partner, John, and Wendy Hendley and her late husband, Jack; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mark was loved by so many friends in his community and left an impression on everyone, something that continued to surprise him. If you were lucky enough to know him, you knew a man who would do anything for anyone. A man who loved tinkering and using his hands to build things. Someone with a routine; breakfast at the Trading Post or Josie’s while reading the paper, lunch at Pat’s Pizza. A Little Debbie and ice cream lover, he was always on the hunt for his next sweet treat. A son, father, Papa, bruddah, and friend.

The next time you “kick back for a bit” and take a nap near the water, read a book that you can’t wait to share, or laugh at your own joke think of Mark and smile.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on April 25, 2026, at Calvary Chapel Downeast, 513 Bar Harbor Road, Trenton.

Chief George F. “Skip” Smith

Lamoine

High on the wall above his home desk, beside the accolades of Lamoine Citizen of the Year 2023 and Maine State Spirit of America Foundation award presented by the 132nd legislature and the people of Maine, hangs a rustic wood sign representing the heart and true legacy of Chief Smith. “One day your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure its worth watching.” And so, he has.
Born George Forrest Smith in Blue Hill Maine to parents Clavin R. and Mary H. (Stillwell) Smith of Lamoine on February 17, 1949. Skip passed quietly in the night on February 13, 2026, to that all-encompassing vacation resort known as Heaven, with golf clubs, DeMarini bat, glove and Bourbon on ice in hand.

Those who attended the Lamoine one room schoolhouse may recall a young Skip restlessly standing in the front row of the annual school picture with c**n skin cap cocked sideways and shotgun resting between his legs in anticipation of what was known then as physical activity – hunting at recess. Although he never harmed anything in his life, Skip always looked forward to taking his gun “for a walk” each fall.

Skip being an avid reader and history buff, traveled to many historical sites over the years. Initially travelling by car to places such as Gettysburg, Arlington, Philadelphia, Jamestown, and the Freedom Trail to name a few. Once his wife coaxed him onto his first plane ride (Bangor to Hawaii) to Pearl Harbor, he was packed and ready for the Mayan ruins in Chichenitza and Tulum, the Roman Colosseum, Pompei, France, Ireland, and the War rooms of London ahead of everyone else.

Skip was a firm believer in George Santayana’s 1905 saying, “Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” He was quick to remind people when they failed to keep up with current events and applied his theory to all aspects of his life, both public and private.
After graduation from Ellsworth High School in 1967 Skip volunteered for service in the U.S. Navy only to find out quickly thereafter, the Nation lacked interest in a Maine boy with funny toes and profound White Coat Syndrome.

Quickly brushing off his bruised ego, Skip pivoted to what turned out to be lifelong careers. His first love actually began early in life when at the ripe old age of 2 years old he was entered into a beauty contest starring his flaxen curls. For that, he earned his first red fire truck and the rest is history. As one fellow firefighter and friend noted, Skip had an “uncommon ability to bring people together” as evidenced by the band of firefighters he maintained and the annual support of the community that respected him.

Skip was referred to as the “quiet man with the eye of an artist” by those who understand the complexity of a craft such as stone masonry. Some friends may dispute that, having known him as an “Animal” during his Class A Championship softball days. Following in his father’s footsteps, Skip became a master stone mason. Over the years he traveled through New England building Count Rumford style fireplaces, schools, homes, patios, and the EHS dugouts. His work culminated in hundreds of examples of monolithic artistry that will remain for future generations.
Skip is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carol (Phillips) Smith; daughters, Alisha Rose, Megan Maheux and her husband, Christopher; four grandchildren, Brandon and Emily Rose, Kahia and Sawyer Maheux; and great-granddaughter, Leila Rose.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11 am- 12:30 pm, February 28, 2026 Lamoine School where a service of remembrance will follow. A reception will be held at the Lamoine Fire House immediately following the services. Spring interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Lamoine.

Northeast Harbor

Clifford Carl Olson, 83, died February 4, 2026, at Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan. He was born on December 15, 1942, in Holden, Mass., the son of Carl W. and Eleanor I. (Laderman) Olson.

Cliff graduated from Wachusett High School, Holden, Mass. He received his BA in 1965 from the New England College, Henniker, NH., where he was treasurer of his fraternity and co-captain of the basketball team. In 1968 he received his master’s from Keene State College, Kenne, NH.

On January 22, 1966, he married Katherine J. Berdecki, and in September of that year they moved to Mt. Desert Island where Cliff started his career in education. He taught history and English at Mount Desert High School in Northeast Harbor and in 1969 became a guidance counselor and eventually a director at Mt. Desert Island High School. During his career and life, he interacted with many students and individuals through sports, coaching basketball, little league and cross country. He took students bowling, skiing and hiking.

After Cliff retired in 2000, he worked as a tour bus guide and crew leader for Friends of Acadia. He also volunteered at Island Connections, The Land and Garden Preserve and the Northeast Harbor Village Improvement Society where he diligently maintained as well as built trails.

Traveling in his Casita was a winter adventure he looked forward to and was able to explore the country over several trips. He also enjoyed sports, music, gardening, and several outdoor activities, Molasses Pond, Trenton, Orland, and especially running. He ran many races including the Boston Marathon in 1986.

Cliff was proud of his family and felt fortunate that he had the opportunity to see his sons and grandchildren attain their initial goals. He was a kind, gentle, thoughtful, hardworking, fun-loving man who always saw the positive side of individuals. His family often joked that he was “running for governor” as it seemed no matter where he went, he made a connection.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Katherine; two sons, Carl Olson and wife Leah and Michael Olson and wife Sheridy; four grandchildren, Zoe, Cody, Nathaniel, and Lucus; sister Judith Evangelidis; sister-in-law Elizabeth Rivers; a special nephew Lew Evangelidis and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, and his canine pals, Shorty, Jagalon, Skipper, Buster, and his “girlfriend” Ruby.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10-11am, April 4, 2026, with a service to follow at 11am at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mt. Desert.
