Joan Vignes Newman

Joan Vignes Newman from Mobile, AL and resident of Enterprise for over 40 years passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026 surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mike Newman. Joan leaves behind a loving family who will forever treasure the memories they shared with her: sister, Janet Vignes Hughey (Sonny); brothers, Robert Vignes and Leon Vignes (Jonathan); nieces Laura Vignes Howard (Chris, Rush, and Madeline) and Sarah Hughey Maples (Whit); and nephews Beau Vignes (Kylie, Ripley, and Lottie) and John Hughey.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 15, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Enterprise with Dr. Ben Bowden officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 until service time.

Joan was a graduate of Murphy High School in Mobile. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree from Judson College and later graduate degrees Masters of Education and P.H.D. in Higher Education from Auburn University.

Her professional life was devoted to education and helping others. She worked as a social worker and later served on the faculties of Macon Junior College, Troy University, and Enterprise State Community College, where she ultimately served as Dean. Joan also served as an adjunct faculty member at Auburn University. After retiring from the Alabama education system she went on to have a successful career as a financial advisor with Edward Jones for over 25 years.

Throughout her life, Joan was deeply committed to service and the betterment of her community. She was an active member of the Enterprise Rotary Club and made history as its first female president. She also devoted her time and leadership to the Wiregrass United Way, the Judson College Board of Trustees (past president), and the Judson College Foundation (past president). She served the Enterprise State Community College Foundation and was involved in the Auburn University Capital Campaign.

Joan was deeply devoted to God and an active member of First Baptist Church of Enterprise where she again served her community by participating in many committees and endowments.

Whether through education, community service, faith, or her many leadership roles, Joan believed in investing in people and institutions that would make a difference for generations to come. Her legacy is reflected not only in the many accomplishments of her career, but in the lives she influenced, the organizations she strengthened, and the people she encouraged along the way.

Col. Ronnie (Randy) Wayne Tucker

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Col. Ronnie (Randy) Wayne Tucker, United States Army (Ret), age 77, on March 23, 2026, in his home in Tucson, AZ after a three-year courageous battle with cancer.

Randy was a highly decorated Army Colonel who served his country for 29 years 8 months. He was an Army Aviator serving a tour in Vietnam with the 173rd Assault Helicopter Company. He had command of Battery B, 1st Battalion, 333rd Field Artillery at Fort Sill, then served as a Tactics Instructor, a command of a battery and S-3, 2nd Battalion, 11th Field Artillery at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, Professor of Military Science at the Univ. of Dayton, served in Korea. In Washington D.C. was J-36 Chief of Nuclear Command and Control Directorate, the Joint Staff and Chief of Nuclear Threat Reduction Division. He later commanded 196th Infantry Brigade and culminated his active-duty military career as Chief of Staff U.S. Army Pacific.

Colonel Tucker’s decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit w/OLC, the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal, Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal w/4 OLC, and Air Medal. Colonel Tucker was also Inducted into the Field Artillery Officer Candidate Hall of Fame in a ceremony at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. (22 awards total)

Randy earned his undergraduate degree from University of Nebraska Omaha, a Master’s Degree from Central Michigan University and Doctorate of Education from the University of Southern California. In retirement he continued in government service as Director of Operations for the Pacific Disaster Center in Kihei, Maui and served in several other positions until full retirement.

Survivors include his loving wife of 10 years Kathleen (Kamie) Tucker; son, Todd (wife, Kimberly), and two grandchildren, Zachary (14) and Karin (13), all of whom he loved dearly, including his Labrador dog, Lily. He was preceded in death by his parents Randall and Virginia Tucker; son, Chad; brother, Terry (Enterprise Alabama); sister, Cindy and former wife Lorie Manley.

Randy was a man of substance, integrity, and character. Having both an impressive and formidable military career he also had a gentle soul and incredible tenderness and kindness for those he loved. He was a loving husband, a gentle grandpa, and a man of strong faith and love. He was an active member of Rotary and worked tirelessly toward the Club’s charitable goals, loved woodworking and growing amazing roses. Randy was a man with whom you could share hard questions and get honest and thoughtful input. Above all he was a humble man who greatly loved his family.

The world is a better place because of Randy, and the lives around him were enriched by knowing him. He will be deeply missed.

Inurnment will take place at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl in Honolulu, Hawaii with Full Military Honors. A specific date for the ceremony has not yet been set.

Jacqueline G. Reeves of Enterprise, AL passed away Friday, August 7, 2026 at her home. She was 61.

Jacqueline loved her family more than anything in this world and treasured every moment spent with those she loved. She had a special love for the beach, with the Gulf holding a particularly special place in her heart. Jacqueline also adored her pets, who were truly cherished members of her family. She was lovingly surrounded by her three Chihuahuas and five cats, each holding a special place in her heart. Her love for her family, her pets, and the simple joys of life will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Mrs. Reeves was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Nora Schenkbecher; and her mother and father in law, Mr. U.C. Reeves and Mrs. Kinuko Reeves.

Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Jeff Reeves, Enterprise, AL; daughter, Stephanie Jeffers, Daleville, AL; sister, Corina Buscemi (Tony), Orlando, FL; niece, Arabella, and nephew, Anthony; as well as numerous other loving family members.

Barbara Jean Ocheltree of Daleville, AL passed away Sunday, August 9, 2026, at her home. She was 72.

Barbara loved making jewelry, reading, antiquing, and spending time with her family. She enjoyed holistic eating, with the occasional Whataburger trip thrown in. Most of all, she loved her family and the simple joys of life.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents James Sewell, Jean Sewell and Sandra Sewell, two sisters Nancy Omtvedt and JoAnne Sewell.

Survivors include her three daughters, Amanda Ocheltree, Ambler, PA; Sarah Ocheltree, Norristown, PA; Cathy A. Farb (JC), Schaumburg, IL; two grandchildren; two sisters, Judith Sewell, Daleville, AL; Donna Maxwell (Randall), Pace, FL; brother, William J. Charlene Sheila Sizemore

On Saturday, August 8, 2026, our precious Pixie, Charlene Sheila Sizemore, peacefully went home to be with the Lord. She passed away in her home, surrounded by loved ones.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel with Father Zachary Greenwell officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Elba, AL with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M until service time at the funeral home.

Pixie was born on March 21, 1945, in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, to the late Lorne and Violet Musson. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

She leaves behind her three daughters, Rita (David) Fryar of Little Rock, Arkansas; Anita Thomas of New Brockton, Alabama; and Tanya (Joe) Thomas of Clio, Alabama; her sister, June Gay of Dothan, Alabama; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and family members who were blessed to know and love her.

The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff of SouthernCare Hospice for their love, kindness, and support they gave our family during this difficult journey. Whitney was Pixie’s favorite nurse. She was so kind to her and became such a special part of her final days. We will forever be grateful for the love you showed our Pixie. The family would also like to thank Cody Reeves for giving her that one last opportunity to sit on the side of the bed and stand up one last time. A special thank you to Carly with Enhabit Health for the special care she provided.

The family is requesting everyone to wear bright colors in honor of Pixie.

Serving the family as pallbearers are David “Bubba” Fryar, Jr., Bobby Strickland Jr., Cody Reeves, Richard Markwell, Preston Markwell, and Eddie Yates.
