Betty June Callahan Oliver of Enterprise, AL, formerly of Lake Toxaway, NC, went home on Friday, June 12, 2026, to be with her Lord, at the age of 101.

Betty was born June 5, 1925, in Joliet, IL. She was the daughter of Jack and Margaret Cooke. In her 60’s Betty and her family moved to Vero Beach, Florida. She lived there for 20 years and moved to North Carolina. Betty was a member of East Fork Baptist Church. She always loved her church and was very active in her church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Byron Reid; parents, John and Margaret Cooke; two husbands, Robert Oliver and Carl Lee Callahan; son-in-law, Mark Lavery; sister, Julie Lee; and a grandson, Robert Malcom.

Betty is survived by her two daughters, Karen Malcom (Robert), Vero Beach, FL; Lori Lavery, Enterprise, AL; two stepsons, Elwin Callahan (Jane) and Gary Callahan both of Philomath, OR; seven grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Jack Winton Martin of Enterprise, AL passed away Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Opp Health and Rehabilitation. He was 77.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Kenny Carter officiating and Searcy Funeral Home & Crematory Directing.

Jack was a hardworking and dedicated man who took great pride in his work and service to others. An expert mechanic, he enjoyed working on cars and was known for his skill and ability to fix just about anything. Jack faithfully served his country in both the United States Army and the United States Air Force, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to service. Following his military career, he worked at the Farley Nuclear Plant, where he was respected for his strong work ethic and dedication. Jack will be remembered for his knowledge, dependability, and the love he shared with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Reather Martin; parents, Cliett and Dimple Martin; brothers, Jeff Martin, and Fred Martin.

Survivors include his children, Jason Martin (Joni), Julie Black (Andrew); two grandchildren, Kaidon Scott and Micah Huie; sister, Sally Martin Wouters (Frank). Brother, Charles Martin (Peggy).

James Marion Arrington, II of New Brockton, AL passed away peacefully Sunday, June 7, 2026, at his home. He was 63.

James found great joy in life’s simple pleasures and especially treasured the time he spent with his son. He loved computers and playing games, often sharing those interests together. An avid reader with a curious mind, James enjoyed learning and expanding his knowledge through books. He also loved fishing, spending time outdoors, and making memories with his family. Above all, James cherished his loved ones and the moments they shared together.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Rebecca Arrington; brother, Dane Scott Arrington; aunt, Patricia Fehl.

Survivors include his son, James Arrington, III, Daleville, AL; daughter, Jackie Gallego (Rich), Colorado; two grandchildren; sister, Beckie Patrick (Jim), Huntsville, AL; niece, Kelsey Prater (Lydia), Huntsville, AL.

Herbert “Wayne” Whittaker of Eufaula, AL, Alabama, passed away Friday, June 5, 2026, at Southeast Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was 83.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 P.M, Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Gods Way Baptist Church located at 271 Pleasant Hill Road, Eufaula, AL with Searcy Funeral Home & Crematory directing. Wayne was a devoted Christian who believed God was in control of everything. He was a loving man who cared deeply for his family. He was always enthusiastic to share his love and faith, with a charming smile, with family and friends alike.

Wayne was preceded in death by his son Christopher Whittaker, brother Jimmy Whittaker, and sisters Beth Grantham and Donna Mauldin.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Lois Whittaker; sister, Jane Elmore Wiley (James), Enterprise, AL; daughter, Angela Crutchfield (Chris), Eufaula, AL; two grandchildren, Adrianna Whittaker and Jeremy Howell (Shelby); six great-grandchildren.

Edward Allen Gilmore, Jr. of Enterprise, AL passed away peacefully Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Enterprise Health and Rehabilitation. He was 93.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Zachary Greenwell officiating and Searcy Funeral Home & Crematory directing. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until service time.

Edward dedicated 35 years of service to the United States Army. Following his military career, he continued sharing his passion for military history through his work at the U.S. Army Aviation Museum. Edward was an active member of his community, enjoying church softball and generously giving his time to others. He volunteered with the Knights of Columbus and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, where his kindness, service, and steadfast faith touched the lives of many.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Alice Gilmore of Pekin, Illinois.

She found joy in the simple pleasures of life and especially cherished her time spent reading her Bible and collecting recipes. In her later years, she enjoyed sewing and crocheting, creating with her hands and sharing her talents with those she loved. She also enjoyed watching videos on YouTube and appreciated the quiet moments these interests brought her. Above all, she treasured her faith and the simple blessings that filled each day.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 26 years Jesse Ray Tessner; grandchild, Danielle Wilson; twelve brothers and one sister.

Survivors include her four children, Hugh Tessner (Janine), Daleville, AL; James Tessner, Daleville, AL; Cecil Tessner (Victoria), Daleville, AL; Jessica Davis, Daleville, AL; six grandchildren, Ashley, Issac, Caleb, Jesse, Rebekkah, and Elizabeth; ten great-grandchildren; along with several other loving family members.

Sherry Altieri Meeks of Enterprise, AL passed away peacefully Sunday, June 7, 2026, at her home. She was 72.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, August 7, 2026, at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory. Private burial will be held at Asbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Asbury Church, PO Box 311948, Enterprise, AL 36331.

Sherry loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored and happily spoiled with treats whenever she could. She found joy in reading, listening to music, and dancing, and she cherished the simple pleasures of country life, a love she inherited from her father. Sherry enjoyed watching classic westerns such as Gunsmoke and Wagon Train.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hayward and Nell Meeks.

She was a woman of many talents who found joy in living a simple, holistic life and making the most of everything she had. An expert gardener and exceptional cook, she was known for creating meals so inviting that friends who caught the aroma from her kitchen often hoped to stay for dinner. She believed in avoiding waste, cherished the beauty of simple living, and was never one to give away all of her gardening secrets. A gifted seamstress, she lovingly made clothes for her children, and she also enjoyed pottery and music throughout her life. In fact, it was music that brought her and the love of her life together—she was playing the drums in a band in Vietnam when she met her beloved husband, Richard. Above all, she treasured her family, remaining actively involved in their lives and creating countless memories with those she loved. Her devotion to Richard was unwavering, and she loved him with all her heart and soul. Her warmth, creativity, and love for family will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Richard Klemm; grandson, Samuel Joiner; Step-grandson, Ryan Winkelmann.

Survivors include her three daughters, Diana Winkelmann (Joe), Huntsville, AL; Judy Joiner (Chris), Chancellor, AL; Cheryl Wilson, Idaho; son, Frankie Klemm (Christina), Hartford, AL; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; along with numerous other family members in Vietnam.
