Got a mammogram letter that says "dense"?

Since September 2024, the FDA has required mammogram results to tell patients whether their breast tissue is dense.

It's common, and it doesn't mean something is wrong. But it does mean two things: dense tissue can make a mammogram harder to read, and it's linked to a higher breast cancer risk.

What it should lead to is a conversation, not a panic. Extra screening, like ultrasound or MRI, helps some women and isn't recommended for everyone with dense breasts. It depends on your personal risk factors.
