Today, on National Cancer Survivors Day, we honor the strength, resilience, and courage of every survivor and the journeys they continue to walk each day.

Behind every survivor is a story of perseverance, hope, difficult moments, and unwavering determination. We also recognize the parents who never miss an appointment, the caregivers who offer constant support, and the loved ones who stand beside survivors through every step of the journey.

At Southern Specialty Clinic, we are grateful to care for and support patients and families through every season of treatment, recovery, and healing. Today and every day, we celebrate the victories, the progress, and the people who inspire us with their strength.

We are proud to share that Dr. Pennington is participating in the Foundation for Sickle Cell Disease Research (FSCDR) 2026 Symposium, where a study he is involved in has been selected for abstract presentation.

For 20 years, the FSCDR Symposium has brought together researchers, physicians, healthcare providers, Sickle Cell Warriors, families, and advocates to advance sickle cell disease research, treatment, and awareness. This year's theme, The Golden Age, celebrates the remarkable progress being made in sickle cell care, including advances in research, innovative therapies, and improved quality of life for patients.

The symposium is open to healthcare professionals, individuals living with sickle cell disease, and their families through both in-person and virtual attendance opportunities.

Staying hydrated plays an important role in supporting your overall health, including your blood health. 🚰 💪

Proper hydration helps your body maintain healthy circulation and allows your blood cells to function efficiently. When you’re not getting enough fluids, it can lead to fatigue, dizziness, and added strain on your body.

Making hydration a daily habit is a simple but powerful way to support your well-being, especially during the summer months.

With Mississippi heat rising, let’s talk about how to manage heat sensitivity with blood disorders.🌡️🌞

For individuals with certain conditions like anemia and other hematologic disorders, heat can be more than just uncomfortable. It can affect how your body regulates temperature and delivers oxygen, leading to increased fatigue, dizziness, and risk of overheating.

Being mindful of how your body responds to heat and taking steps to stay cool can help you better manage your symptoms and protect your overall health.

Here are a few ways to stay safe in the heat:
• Stay hydrated throughout the day
• Avoid prolonged heat exposure when possible
• Take breaks indoors or in shaded areas
• Listen to your body and rest when needed
