Meet Derek Wheeler, an intern at Light Counseling.

Why do we do what we do? Some things are hard to put into words, and that is where psychological testing comes in. Answering questions and completing assessments gives a fuller picture of what you are experiencing, one that conversation alone can miss.

The result is an evaluation that means something to you. It helps you understand yourself, understand what is going on, and see a way to change it. It also helps your therapist, who can see how depression or anxiety is showing up for you in particular and plan around that.

The goal is more than fewer symptoms. It is getting back to the life you were living before them.

Meet Molly Eckels, a Master's Level Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern at Light Counseling in Lynchburg.

Maybe you are in a dark season right now, and the spiraling, untruthful thoughts feel like they are taking over. Molly turns to Philippians 4:8 for moments like that: think about what is true, what is noble, what is right and pure, what is lovely and worthy of praise.

Molly wants to be here for you, and so does the whole Light Counseling team. She believes you are a child of God, called by name, and she wants you to leave with confidence in who you are, a clear sense of your strengths, and the coping skills to get back to yourself.

You do not have to walk through the dark alone.

Meet Amy Hunter, a Master's Level Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern at Light Counseling.

How am I going to get through this? How do I move forward from here? Amy has asked herself those same questions at different times in her own life, and she knows firsthand how much comfort it brings to have a counselor walk alongside you.

That is what she wants to offer now: practical tools for the hard questions, room to process what you have been through, and a path toward healing and even flourishing.

Whatever season you or your family are in, Amy would love the opportunity to walk through it with you.

Meet Dr. Zach Clinton, LPC, a Licensed Professional Counselor at Light Counseling in Lynchburg.

Zach will tell you it is tough being a kid in today's culture, and he knows it firsthand. For the longest time he struggled with identity and that’s exactly what he continues to see in many of the kids he works with today.

With social media, they are always comparing their story to someone else's, and the questions start to pile up. Do I matter? Am I behind? Should I be somebody I am not?

If there is a kid in your life asking those questions, Zach would love to be a part of their story. Whatever they are walking through, they do not have to walk through it alone.

Meet Carly Malocsay, MS, Resident in Counseling at Light Counseling.

At eight years old, Carly was wheeled into an operating room, scared and unsure of everything around her. She knows what it is like for a child when the world stops making sense. That experience is why she counsels children today.

Carly works with kids ages 5 to 17 who feel like everything is changing, everything is coming at them at once, and they do not know what to do with it. If your child is struggling, they do not have to sort it out alone.

Meet Matthew Scott, LMFT, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist at Light Counseling.

As a kid, Matthew spent hours working jigsaw puzzles, and there were always a few pieces missing. He thinks most of us carry a puzzle like that, with pieces missing from things we have been through.

You do not have to go looking for that puzzle piece alone.

Who am I? Who do I want to be?

If you have ever asked those questions, you are not alone. Starting college means being surrounded by new people, new styles, and new ideas, and it can be hard to sort out which parts are really you.

Figuring out who you are and establishing yourself as an adult is hard, and you do not have to do it alone. At Light Counseling, our counselors walk alongside college students and young adults as they work through questions of identity, belonging, and who God made them to be.
