Our leadership team tried out our new Shockwave machine/treatment this morning! It's now on it's way to our Carlisle clinic! Learn more about shockwave treatment below!

Shockwave treatment is most effective for those experiencing chronic pain. When an injury occurs, your body’s healing mechanisms kick into gear to help you recover. However, with chronic pain, your body becomes “used to” the pain and fails to recognize it as an injury. Therefore, your body is not utilizing its normal healing mechanisms.

Shockwave treatment works by causing a micro amount of trauma deep in your soft tissue. Most patients experience minor discomfort and soreness for a few days after Shockwave treatment, but the benefit is that your body’s natural healing response kicks in to help repair that new “injury.”

Although shockwave therapy can be a little uncomfortable or painful, we will take all measures we can to help manage the discomfort.

A good reminder that you don’t need a referral to come see a Doctor of Physical Therapy!

Seeing a physical therapist first, without a physician's referral, is allowed in the United States, and it is called direct access. Not only is it safe and effective, direct access can help you recover faster, among other benefits.

One of the fun (and predictable!) parts of being a Physical Therapist is that family members often come to you with questions about their aches and pains. Usually, it’s a mix of knee, neck, and shoulder issues. But this weekend was different! I had three separate family members come up to me, at three separate times, describing the exact same pain."
