Sometimes the smallest moments become the ones we hold onto most — a favorite song, a familiar story, a hand held, a laugh shared. Hospice care creates space for more of those moments. Because every day still has meaning.

Hospice care is more than medical care. It can include pain and symptom management, personal care, emotional and spiritual support, social work services and guidance for family caregivers — all centered around the individual needs and wishes of the patient.

To the caregivers showing up day after day: your presence matters more than you may ever know. Remember that caring for yourself isn’t taking away from the care you give someone else. A moment to rest, ask for help or simply breathe matters, too.

If you’re caring for a loved one and have questions about hospice care or the support available to your family, Charis Hospice is here to help.

We’re proud to share that Charis Hospice is officially a Dementia Friendly organization — and the very first organization to complete the program with Dementia Friendly Montgomery County!

Our team is committed to continuing to learn, grow and better understand how we can support individuals living with dementia and the families who love and care for them.

Thank you to Dementia Friendly Montgomery County for this recognition and for helping us strengthen the compassionate, informed care we provide every day.

We’re honored to be the first — and even more honored to be part of a community working to become more dementia friendly. 💜

“Charis Hospice was there for my mom and our family throughout the entire hospice journey. From providing comfort and support during her final days to helping navigate the difficult weeks that followed, their team was always available when we needed them.

What meant the most was knowing we never had to face this journey alone. Questions were answered, concerns were addressed, and both my mom and our family were treated with compassion, dignity, and kindness every step of the way.

Even after my mom’s passing, the bereavement support has continued to provide comfort and guidance during a difficult time. We are incredibly grateful for the care we received and would highly recommend Charis Hospice to other families.”

We are honored to walk alongside families during some of life’s most meaningful moments and grateful for the trust they place in our team.

For nurses, caring for others is more than a profession—it’s a calling.

At Charis Hospice, we are honored to offer the Nightingale Tribute, a special ceremony recognizing nurses who have dedicated their lives to serving, comforting, and caring for others.

Often conducted at the bedside, funeral, or memorial service, the tribute formally releases the nurse from their earthly nursing duties while celebrating a lifetime of compassion, sacrifice, and service. Similar to a military honor ceremony, it provides families, colleagues, and loved ones an opportunity to recognize the profound impact a nurse has made throughout their career.

It is a touching reminder that while a nurse’s work may come to an end, the lives they touched will continue to carry their legacy forward.

Receiving a serious diagnosis can feel overwhelming. In the days and weeks that follow, families are often faced with difficult decisions and important conversations.

While every situation is unique, here are a few questions that may help guide the discussion:

• What can we expect as the illness progresses?
• What are my loved one’s wishes for care and treatment?
• How can we best manage symptoms and maintain quality of life?
• What support services are available for our family?
• Who will help coordinate care and answer questions as needs change?
• When should we consider palliative care or hospice services?
• What legal, financial, or advance care planning documents should be in place?
• How can we ensure our loved one’s comfort and dignity throughout this journey?

Perhaps the most important question is this:

“What matters most to my loved one?”

Understanding their goals, values, and wishes can help families make informed decisions with confidence and peace of mind.

If you have questions about hospice care, palliative care, or the support available to families facing a life-limiting illness, the Charis Hospice team is here to help.

“Where would I be without them?”

Those words mean everything to us.

Recently, a family member shared how grateful they were for the support, compassion, and guidance they received while caring for a loved one. They described our team as caring, down-to-earth, and willing to go above and beyond during one of life’s most challenging seasons.

At Charis Hospice, we know hospice care is about more than medical support. It’s about walking alongside patients and families, providing comfort, answering questions, and being present when it matters most.

We are honored by the trust families place in us and grateful for the opportunity to serve our community each day.

Thank you to the families who allow us to be part of their journey.
