People with congenitally missing teeth are missing them at birth. In some cases, the existing teeth are peg shaped. This condition is also called hypodontia, a congenital disorder that happens when permanent teeth don’t develop as they should. In hypodontia, primary (baby) teeth come in on schedule, but some of the permanent teeth do not. Congenitally missing teeth affect approximately 2% and 8% of people. This treatable condition can affect quality of life. Treatment options include dental implants, orthodontic care and other restorative options.
