Last Friday at the Veteran Services Center was something truly special. 🇺🇸

WWII Navy Veteran Patrick Carpentier celebrated his 100th birthday surrounded by family, including his wife of 75 years. Patrick served in the Pacific from 1944 to 1946 and chose to spend this milestone with his veteran community.

He received a Quilt of Valor alongside his son, an Army veteran, and was presented a Citation from the Department of Veterans and Military Families by Deputy Secretary Dana Burl.

100 years of life. A lifetime of service.

July is Juvenile Arthritis Awareness Month and it is a powerful reminder that arthritis does not discriminate by age. In fact, nearly 50% of adults aged 65 and older have some form of arthritis. Cheyenne and Andrew brought Thrive USA to A Night of Color & Community hosted by Warrior Canine Connection in Boyds, Maryland. An evening centered around safe and inclusive resources for service members, veterans, LGBTQ+ community members, and their families. 🌈🇺🇸

The Frederick County Veteran Advisory Council announced the inaugural David K. Memorial Award, formed in honor of David Kaye, and presented the announcement to his widow Marguerite Kaye.

The award will be officially presented at the VAC’s Veteran Appreciation Day in May. A legacy worth honoring.

July is UV Safety Awareness Month and we want to share something that surprises a lot of families. Between 40 and 50 percent of Americans aged 65 and older will have skin cancer at least once in their lifetime. More than 9,500 people in the United States receive a skin cancer diagnosis every single day. Seniors are at the highest risk because sun damage builds up over a lifetime. Many seniors also take medications that make their skin even more sensitive to UV rays without knowing it. At Thrive USA, our care coaches help seniors apply sunscreen before going outside, plan outdoor activities during the safest times of day, wear protective clothing, and watch for early signs of sun damage all summer long.
