Across the country, Home Instead teams are showing up with purpose at Walk to End Alzheimer’s events—walking in honor of loved ones, supporting families and raising critical funds for the fight to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia. 💜

We are proud to partner with the ’sAssociation as a Walk to End Alzheimer’s Gold National Team. Together, Home Instead has raised more than $5.7 million over the past 18 years, including $258,000 last year alone, to advance Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

This year, we are well on our way to reaching our goal—and every donation and every step makes a meaningful difference. Thank you to every Care Pro, office team member, client, family member and community partner who walks, fundraises and helps move this mission forward.

To donate or find a Walk near you, visit: https://homeinsteadinc.visitlink.me/iZJ8YM Together, we are moving closer to a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.

When searching for a senior living community, touring more than one place can make all the difference.

Look beyond the amenities and notice the everyday interactions: Do team members know residents by name? Do they speak directly to the person who may live there? Does the community feel warm, personal and welcoming?

In this Caregiver Chats clip, Dr. Lakelyn and Nicole Will share why comparing communities can help families find the right fit for their loved one.

One tour rarely tells the whole story.

When you’re exploring senior living options for someone you love, visit more than one community—and pay attention to the details that reveal how people are truly cared for.

Are residents greeted by name? Are conversations warm and personal? Does the team speak directly to the older adult, not just their family?

Sometimes the clearest answer comes from comparing how each place feels.

Touring senior living communities for a loved one? Look beyond the scheduled visit.

In this clip from Caregiver Chats, Nicole Will shares why it can be helpful to stop by at a different time—like an evening or weekend—and notice the everyday experience. Are residents interacting naturally? Do team members seem calm, attentive and familiar with the people they support?

The right community is about more than the building. It’s about finding a place where your loved one can feel connected, valued and at home.

Small words can make a big difference.
When someone you love has Alzheimer's, the way we talk to them matters as much as what we say. Questions that feel simple to us, like "Don't you remember?", can feel like a test to someone living with memory loss. Offering a gentle alternative, like looking at a photo together, keeps the moment warm instead of stressful.
A few small shifts that help:
Instead of "Don't you remember?" try "Let's look at this photo together."
Instead of "What do you want to eat?" try "Soup or a sandwich?"
Instead of "That's not true," try "Tell me more about that."
These changes reduce frustration for everyone and help your loved one feel understood, not tested.
Every family's journey with Alzheimer's looks different. If you need support along the way, give us a call at (559) 243-1224. We're here to help.

A scheduled tour can show you the highlights. An unscheduled visit can show you everyday life.

When you’re considering a senior living community for someone you love, Nicole Will suggests stopping by at a different time—an evening or weekend—and paying attention to what you see.

Are residents connecting? Does the team seem calm and engaged? Do people know one another by name?

It’s not just about finding a place to live. It’s about finding a place where your loved one can feel known, connected and at home.

Have you seen The Father? There’s a moment many families describe. A parent looks at you, and for a second, you’re a stranger.
The film shows a reality many families live: a loved one slowly losing their grip on what’s around them, and the people who keep showing up anyway.
If your parent gets confused, you don’t have to correct every word. Often, the most helpful thing is to listen to what they’re trying to tell you and stay close.
Caring for a parent with memory loss takes patience and support. You don’t have to do it alone. Call us at (559) 243-1224 💚

If your visits to Mom or Dad have started turning into cleaning days, you’re probably seeing something real. Bending to clean the tub, carrying a laundry basket or climbing on a chair to dust a shelf all get harder with age, and the house tends to show it first.
Signs that keeping up the house is getting to be too much:
Dishes or laundry piling up
Clutter on the floor, in hallways or on the stairs
A bathroom or kitchen that isn’t as clean as it used to be
Trash or old food left too long
Sheets that haven’t been changed in a while
This matters for more than how the house looks. Things on the floor are easy to trip over, a slippery bathroom is a common place to fall, and food left out too long can make someone sick.
There are simple ways to make it easier. Keep the things they use every day within reach. Clear the walkways. Split chores into small tasks across the week. And get help with the heavy jobs like floors, bathrooms, laundry and changing the beds.
Light housekeeping is part of what our Care Pros do. They take care of those tasks and keep the walkways clear, so your parent can keep doing the parts they still enjoy and your visits can go back to being visits.
If you’re noticing some of these signs, we’re here to talk about the options. (559) 243-1224

When families begin exploring senior living, it’s easy to focus on the building first: the amenities, the dining room, the activity calendar.

But as Nicole Will () reminds us, the better place to begin is with the person.

What brings your loved one joy? Where do they find purpose? What kind of connection will help them feel known and at home?

In this episode of Caregiver Chats, Dr. Lakelyn and Nicole share a more person-centered way to approach one of caregiving’s biggest decisions.
