This is a sample of the audio description now available for the Krupp Howitzer Cannon located near the pedestrian bridge in Grant Park, the fifth historic site in Galena to receive an Audible Visions QR code.

This is just the beginning. Our team is actively working to add audio descriptions to historic landmarks throughout Galena as we pursue our goal of making our community one of the most accessible small towns in America.

Progress is happening! 🎉

Tonight, Audible Visions added audio QR codes to four historic landmarks in Grant Park, bringing us one step closer to making Galena’s rich history accessible to everyone.

By simply scanning these codes with a smartphone, visitors can listen to audio descriptions and historical information about each site, creating a more inclusive experience for people with low vision and other disabilities.

The excitement started immediately. A couple of passersby stopped to learn about the project and were among the first to scan and enjoy the audio descriptions as the QR codes were being installed. They’re pictured here helping us celebrate this exciting milestone!

We will begin by adding QR codes to historic plaques owned by the City of Galena and then continue expanding the project throughout the community. Our goal is simple: to make the historic information that makes Galena so special accessible to all visitors and locals alike.

Galena is already known as one of the friendliest and most beautiful places to visit. With projects like this, we hope to help make it one of the most accessible as well.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to support an organization that shares our passion for making the arts accessible and enriching for our community.

Over the past few years, Audible Visions has partnered with Galena Center for the Arts on multiple events, providing audio description to help visitors with low vision experience exhibits through detailed narration and storytelling. Together, we’ve worked to ensure that art can be enjoyed by people of all abilities.
