Visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 PM on Friday, September 25, 2026, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Garrison, ND, with a Rosary/Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 PM

Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 28, 2026, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.

He was born on August 14th, 1942 at Garrison Hospital to Arthur and Alma Schreiner. Arthur lived a life defined by steadfast work ethic, deep Catholic faith, and an unwavering commitment to providing for those he loved. He was the devoted husband of Betty Ann Schreiner and the loving father of Kelly Schreiner (Natalie Braun) and Kim Schreiner (Shannon Schreiner).Arthur proudly served in the Army National Guard and built a long and respected career as a cement mason. He was known for his skill, reliability, and dedication. He took great pride in his craft and in the role it played in supporting his family. His workmanship can be seen in countless projects including Target Center. Outside of work, Arthur enjoyed woodworking, creating handmade pieces for family and friends that showcased his creativity and attention to detail. Arthur enjoyed talking with Kim his daughter about stocks and finances. He loved checking in with Kelly, his son, about what was happening in Minnesota with his family. Art was especially happy when passing on his knowledge of farming to his grandsons and taking them for combine or tractor rides. He was an exceptional chef and grill master, always ready to feed the family when they visited. Walks to the lake with grandpa were a highlight of the grandkids’ memories. Art cherished simple joys: talking with his grandchildren in MN and Tajanae in AZ. Arthur was a great brother staying in touch with his sisters weekly on the phone. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. Arthur enjoyed tanning with Adisyn Leach, talking with Alexis Leach and keeping up on her life in Bismarck. He would have fun teasing Ava Leach and looked forward to her spending her money buying him ice cream.

He enjoyed winters in Arizona with his beloved wife Betty. He could be found most days of the week spending time with his buddies all around the local towns close to Garrison drinking coffee, eating out, and attending basketball games. Art was one very independent man who found pleasure in the everyday tasks of mowing his lawn, blowing snow, walking, talking with neighbors and driving his new vehicles to town.

Arthur is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Schreiner, his mother, Alma Schreiner, and his father, Arthur W. Schreiner Sr.

Arthur is survived by his children named above and grandchildren who brought him immense pride: Tajanae Schreiner, Joseph Schreiner, Oliver Schreiner, Ethan Schreiner, Ambrose Schreiner, and Rachel Schreiner.

He is also survived by his sisters Linda (Edward) Schnaible , Carolyn (Tony) Simmons, and Debra (Brian) Fredrick, along with extended family Will, Heidi, Alexis, Adisyn, and Ava Leach, all of whom held a special place in his heart.

Arthur will be remembered as a hardworking provider, a man of faith, cars, music and someone who found joy in creating, building, and being present with the people he loved. His legacy lives on in the family he raised, the work he crafted, and the memories shared across generations.

Mary Louise Flath was born on January 25, 1965, in garrison. The daughter of Theophil and Louise (Smith) Flath. She was the youngest of six children.

She grew up on the family farm NE of Garrison. Mary attended Garrison High School and Minot State College.

Mary started as a cook at Elsie’s Café and then at the Lakeroad restaurant. She managed the Sun Dollar Store on Main Street for several years before joining GAIA as a blackjack dealer. Mary loved dealing blackjack, but if players were rude, she loved to take their money, with that one exception, she was generous to a fault.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joe.

Mary is survived by her siblings, Janice (Stuart) Merry, Ervin (Crystal) Flath, Edward (Judy) Flath, Boyd Flath; sister-in-law, Melinda Flath; special friend, Byron Gill; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Raymond Doyle Koenig, 100, of Garrison, passed away on July 27, 2026, in Garrison.

A service celebrating a life well lived will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Garrison City Auditorium, Garrison, ND.

Doyle was born on November 30, 1925, in Underwood, ND to Fred and Bertha (Harris) Koenig. He was raised in Underwood with his seven siblings. Doyle graduated early from Underwood High School, and immediately enlisted in the US Navy. He was honorably discharged in September 1944.

Returning to Underwood, Doyle worked at the local lumberyard with his father. His success in the retail lumber business allowed him to advance his career with Great Plains Supply Lumber Company eventually becoming a regional manager. Retiring at 58, Doyle enjoyed more years of retirement than years of employment.

Doyle met the love of his life Patricia Crank at a dance in Garrison. In 1949, Doyle and Pat married and together they raised their three children in White Bear Lake, Minnesota and Minot, North Dakota. After his retirement, he and Pat established their forever home in Garrison, North Dakota, on Hideaway Bay, Lake Sakakawea.

Doyle had a passion for hunting and fishing. He enjoyed doing both, accompanied by family and friends. Doyle was long time supporter of Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, recently a volunteer guide with the local Wounded Warriors group. His last hunt was in the fall of 2025 with his son and grandson. He also enjoyed chopping wood to heat his home, his favorite saying was “a man who heats with wood is twice warmed”.

Doyle was a man of great faith and sincerely kind to everyone he met. His love for family was unwavering. His community of neighbors were a lifeline for both Doyle and those who kept his social calendar full. He continued to play poker every Monday night up to 3 weeks prior to his passing. He was a forward thinker, patriot and conservationist.

Doyle is survived by his children: Barbara Koenig, Laurie (Cary) Bauer, Charles (Cindy) Koenig; grandchildren: Adam Byorum (Allie), Nick Byorum, Megan (Evan) Burch, JD Bauer, Matthew (Amanda) Bauer, Caitlin (Brian) Klekner, Grant (Rebekah) Koenig; great-grandchildren: Nic Wildemuth, Domenica Byorum, Donavon Johnson, Nikkita Byorum, Kyle Wildemuth, Zack Wildemuth, Jaiden Byorum, Jennavive Byorum, Henry Byorum, Jordan Bauer, Isabelle Bauer, Knox Bauer, Nash Bauer, Townes Klekner, Deke Klekner, Joey Koenig, Leni Koenig; great-great-grandchildren: Athena Byorum, Riley Johnson.

Doyle was preceded in death by the love of his life: Pat; parents; siblings: Mildred, Emerald, LeRoy, Lois, Melvin, Lillian, Enid.

Rodney Engel, 67, of Sequim Washington, passed away on July 3, 2026, in Garrison, ND.

Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison, ND. Burial to follow at the Garrison Cemetery.

Rodney Dale Engel was born onDecember 19, 1958, in Garrison, North Dakota, to Art and Esther Engel.

Rod attended Garrison Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1977. He went on to attend the Lineman Program at Bismarck State College before beginning his career with Montana-Dakota Utilities (MDU).

In 1996, Rod moved to Breckenridge, Colorado, where he worked as an electrician for Vail Resorts. He later relocated to Brighton, Colorado, in 2007 and began his career with Sturgeon Electric. While living in Colorado, Rod met the love of his life, Liz. They were married on April 24, 2009, and made their home together in Brighton before eventually settling in Sequim, Washington. Rod continued his career with Sturgeon Electric, serving as a Safety Engineer until his retirement.

Rod was happiest when he was building, fixing, or creating something in his shop. He had a lifelong love of adventure and enjoyed camping, traveling, and exploring new places. In recent years, he especially cherished trips to Maui. He also loved spending time with his beloved dogs, Saydee and Porter, who were never far from his side.

Rod was known for his quiet strength, humble nature, and unwavering willingness to help others. He was the kind of person friends, neighbors, and family would call when they needed a hand, and he never hesitated to show up. Whether it was troubleshooting an electrical problem, helping with a home project, or simply lending a hand wherever it was needed, Rod generously shared his time, knowledge, and talents without expecting anything in return. He enjoyed working with his hands, solving problems, and spending time with family and friends. His kindness, generosity, and steady presence left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, quiet generosity, and a life spent helping others.

Rod is survived by his loving wife, Liz Engel, with whom he shared 17 years of marriage; his stepchildren, Ryan (Alyssa) Berry and Katie (David) Ochoa; his grandchildren, Madisyn, Landon, and Caleb; his brother, Tim Engel; his nephew, Chad (Andrea) Engel; his nieces, Amy (David) Cline and Desirae (Mike) Mohl; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Kyran, Kayven, Tyler, and Lauren.

Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Esther Engel, and his sister-in-law, Susan Engel.

Rod’s quiet kindness, generous spirit, and unwavering willingness to help others will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
