🚨 Parents: If your child has dyslexia, there is a good chance they may also have underlying language weaknesses that are impacting their reading.

Many people think dyslexia is simply "reading letters backwards" or struggling to sound out words. But for many children, the challenges go much deeper.

Research shows that more than half of children with dyslexia also have Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), a condition that affects how a child understands and uses language.

This means your child may struggle with:
• Learning new vocabulary
• Following directions
• Understanding what they read
• Telling stories in sequence
• Using correct grammar
• Finding the right words when speaking

Here's why this matters:

Reading is built on language.

If a child has difficulty understanding language, learning language, or organizing language, reading becomes much harder. Teaching reading alone may not address all of the underlying challenges.

This is where Speech-Language Pathologists can help.

SLPs are trained to evaluate and treat the language skills that support reading success, including:
✅ Phonological awareness
✅ Vocabulary
✅ Grammar and sentence structure
✅ Listening comprehension
✅ Narrative skills
✅ Reading comprehension

Dyslexia intervention is incredibly important. But for many children, the missing piece is also addressing the language system that supports literacy.

If your child has dyslexia and continues to struggle despite intervention, it may be worth asking: "Could there be a language component, too?"

Sometimes the key to stronger reading starts long before the page ❤️

Part of the fun of moving clinics. 😅 Our Starlink internet installation at the new building has been slightly delayed, which means we have not been able to get our office phones connected yet.

Our clinic phone lines are currently down. For the next week, if you need to reach Speechology NWA, please call or text us directly at 270-993-0330.

We’ll let everyone know as soon as our office phones are back up and running. Thank you all so much for your patience during our move!

Did you know that in the average classroom, many students struggle with reading and language skills, even if they don’t have a formal diagnosis? Early identification and the right intervention can make such a huge difference in a child’s confidence and academic success.

At Speechology NWA, we specialize in dyslexia intervention, language-based learning difficulties, decoding, reading comprehension, spelling, and supporting students with DLD (Developmental Language Disorder). Our therapists use evidence-based, structured literacy approaches tailored to each child’s individual needs.

Whether your child has dyslexia, DLD, or is simply struggling with reading and language skills, we are passionate about helping children build strong foundations and feel successful in the classroom. ❤️

If you have concerns about your child’s reading, spelling, comprehension, or language development, reach out to us. We would love to help guide you through the process and support your family. We accept Medicaid, BCBS, Municipal, and EFA Funds.

Huge shoutout this client for the sweetest early SLP Appreciation gift! 🌱💚

One thing about him, he pays attention to the little things. He knows Mrs. Kayleigh loves plants, so he picked out the cutest little plant gift, and it absolutely made her day. Moments like this remind us that what we do is about so much more than speech and reading goals. It’s the relationships, kindness, and connections built along the way.

So thankful for thoughtful kiddos like Jase and families who make this job so special. 🫶

Summer is one of the BEST times to support reading growth for children with dyslexia ☀️📚

Without practice, many students experience the “summer slide,” where reading and spelling skills can regress over break. The good news? Small, consistent practice can make a huge difference.

At Speechology NWA, our dyslexia sessions focus on:
• decoding and spelling skills
• phonological awareness
• reading fluency
• confidence and reducing frustration
• evidence-based structured literacy intervention

Learning can still be fun in the summer. Games, movement, hands-on activities, and engaging lessons help keep kids motivated while continuing to build the brain pathways needed for reading success.

If your child struggled during the school year, summer can be a great time to catch up and build confidence before fall starts again. 🌿

Reach out to us today to learn more about our dyslexia services or to get your child scheduled for summer sessions!

Our sign is officially up today and we are so excited 🤍

All the long days, late nights, and hard work are starting to come together, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

If you drive by, give us a wave 👋 We can’t wait to welcome our clients into this new space and continue doing what we love-helping kids grow, learn, and succeed.

So thankful for everyone who has supported us along the way. This is just the beginning 💙
