Depression can look different from person to person. Sometimes the signs are subtle, and sometimes people work hard to hide how much they're struggling. Learning to recognize the signs helps us respond with understanding instead of judgement.

Things to look for:
-Persistent sadness, hopelessness, or irritability
-Losing interest in activities once enjoyed
-Feeling exhausted or lacking motivation
-Sleeping significantly more or less than usual
-Changes in appetite
-Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
-Withdrawing from family and friends
-Feeling worthless, helpless, or excessively guilty

Remember: You don't have to recognize every sign, have all the answer, or wait until you reach a breaking point to seek support.

If you notice these changes in yourself or someone you love, approach the situation with compassion and consider reaching out to a mental health professional.

🍂It’s October! 🍂

It’s Depression Awareness month and we wanted to share some practical ways to support someone you may know, who might be presenting with depression:

1.Listen
Understand their experience before trying to change it.

2.Validate
Communicate that their feelings matter, even when you don't fully understand them.

3.Collaborate
Ask what would help and offer specific, manageable assistance.

4.Stay connected
Offer steady companionship without demanding that they feel better.

5.Connect to care
Encourage professional support when needed and respond appropriately to safety concerns

This month, we're proud to partner with Horses for Mental Health to raise funds in support of our incredible equine team!

At Harmony Farm Creative Counseling, our animals are more than just part of the farm. They're essential partners in the therapeutic process, helping children and families build connections, navigate challenges, and find healing.

Your tax-deductible donation will help provide the care, shelter, and essential supplies our animals need, allowing us to continue offering meaningful mental health services to individuals and families in our community.

Together, we can help bridge the gap between hurting and healing, ensuring that no child has to navigate that journey alone.

Throughout the month, we'll be introducing you to the animals who make our work possible, sharing a behind-the-scenes look at life on the farm, and highlighting the services we provide to our community.

Follow our page for updates and visit the link below to make a donation!

Welcome Scott Rush, LPCC to our Harmony Farm team! Scott is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and graduated from the University of Akron in 2014 with a BS in Psychology and a Minor in Sociology. He graduated from Wright State University in 2017 with his Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Scott has spent most of his career working with children and adolescents because he believes that helping the youth sets up our world for a better future. He enjoys working with children and adolescents with anxiety, trauma and ADHD. His goal is for every person who attends therapy with him to feel valued and genuinely seen. Scott want clients to leave each session knowing that their emotions are valid and that they have a space where they can be their authentic selves.

Welcome Skyler Nimmer, MSW, CSW to our team! She enjoys working with children, teens, young adults, and families, particularly those navigating trauma, anxiety, emotional regulation challenges, identity development, and life transitions.
Her approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, trauma-informed, and strengths-based. She believes meaningful change happens through safety, connection, and a therapeutic relationship that allows clients to feel seen and supported.
She is especially passionate about incorporating horses and the outdoors into psychotherapy. With more than 30 years of horsemanship experience and specialized training in equine-facilitated therapy, Skyler values the unique ways horses can support healing, self-awareness, emotional regulation, confidence, and connection.
Skyler also brings more than 13 years of Army National Guard service, which has shaped her appreciation for resilience, adaptability, and the many ways our experiences influence how we relate to ourselves and others.
