Breastfeeding support for all West Virginians!

We are super happy to announce that today marks the launch of the West Virginia WIC Breastfeeding Support Hotline, operated by Appalachian Breastfeeding Network! This hotline is available 24/7 for West Virginians -- focusing on WIC participants, but available to all West Virginians! This hotline also has an in-house referral team built in - IBCLCs, RDs, and Mental Health Specialists (PMH-Cs) are available to speak with callers as needed. If you know of anyone in WV that could benefit from this hotline, please pass it along!

Day trip to Elkins for a quarterly Midwives Alliance of West Virginia meeting! Maureen Farrell with Highland Birth Support hosted those of us that could make it in person. Great to finally meet two of the midwives that I’ve been seeing on Zoom for the last two years. After the meeting we went downtown and enjoyed the Ramp and Railways fest.

Such a fun afternoon with my sister. She tagged along while I did a prenatal and then we hiked a nice mile, chatted and enjoyed the views. Thankful for a beautiful day.

Fun fact, Rachel’s youngest was my first catch almost 11 years ago!

During homebirth, Certified Professional Midwives monitor both parent and baby with skill and intention.

In this photo, a CPM listens to the baby while the mother labors in the tub, ensuring baby’s heart rate remains steady and strong.

CPMs are trained to recognize normal birth, to protect its rhythm, and to step in when needed. Their care is hands-on, evidence-based, and rooted in trust.

When we birth, we don’t just birth babies.

We birth ourselves, we birth our families and we reshape our lives.

It’s so important to get good information on which to base pregnancy and birth decisions.

Because they can affect us for a very long time.

Perhaps the rest of your life.

It's also important to understand that it doesn't matter what the guideline says, or what anyone else thinks.

What matters is what's right for you.
